Here’s Newcastle’s First Sumner Signing – Video

22 year-old Romain Amalfitano from Reims should shortly be announced as Newcastle’s first summer signing.

Romain Amalfitano – attacking midfielder

Romain is the younger brother of 27 year-old French International Morgan Amalfitano, who plays at Marseilles.

The youngster  will turn 23 in August, once he’s arrived on Tyneside, and he will be signing a three year deal at Newcastle, and comes in as a free agent, so there’s very little risk here.

Romain started his career at Evian TG in 2007, and then moved to Reims in the French second division in 2009.

By our reckoning, the right footed 5’9″ tall midfielder has played 66 times for Reims and has scored 10 goals with 7 assists.

Here’s some video of the lad – he looks good.

Comments welcome.

Brendon Rodgers turns down approach to speak to Liverpool, do think that Liverpool will approach Newcastle aswell for Pardew but im 95% certain he would reject aswell.!!! I hope anyways

No evidence, that he’s gonna light up st James. I think he’s only brought in to add more squad depth and hopefully fulfill his potential.

GeordieT: They are talking with Martinez, and I think he will sign a deal with Pool. Pardew wont go to Liverpool, IMO.

Also just on a 3 year contract so doubt he is a full first teamer.

    Reserve level/back up imo

Seems a Crackin Player Ideal for the Europa Next Season !!!! We will loose 6 Players this summer so need good new young players like him. Graham Carr Will have watched him loads of times. There is More Chance of Alan Pardew Joining Sunderland than The Liverpool Scum ….. The Wigan Manager is The Man For that Job…

Have a feeling we’re signing him to a have a more free scoring midfielder. If he can get up to par with other players during pre-season, then that’ll be a great bonus.
    He’s my Guthrie replacement.

Really? His scoring record isn’t great despite what that video shows and he’s playing in a far easier league there. I honestly think Cabs will notch around 10+ next season

As for Guthrie replacement I’d want someone better tbh Diame (as much as I don’t rate him) would be much better and N’zonzi better still. Both would allow us to play a 4231 or 4213 which for me hold our brightest future

Looks pretty good at finishing and getting in between defenders but I’m not sure about his ball control. Would be better if we could find another precise, skillful midfielder like ben arfa so we can get down both wings just as well.

I hope that this news is wrong. He isn’t up to the standard we have set this season. I understand we are in the “Europa league” but if we are to challenge for silverware and also push for a higher finish next season this type of signing doesn’t cut the mustard for me. Graham Carr has done a fantastic job but I do feel people are getting pretty carried away with it all. Yohan cabaye is one of the signings of the season but he wasn’t “discovered” how many people seem to put it he was a full French international as was santon, HBA, tiote, ba and cisse. These are all full internationals that are known across the continent to anyone who follows the game closely. What about Obertan was he a Carr “discovery”. People need to calm down with the in Carr we trust. The French league is a very competitive league and if he hasn’t made it yet he never will. If we are to improve next year we need to forget about building a squad for the Europa league and build a squad for the top 4 and this man isn’t good enough. If we are looking for a midfielder who can get on the score sheet then let’s look at Sigudsson or Marvin Martin.

danmuamua- Marvin Martin is THE signing for me this summer but if we can get this promising kid Amalfitano for free then why not? He will make a good replacement for Guthrie who is definitely leaving. Don’t forget that we also have Gosling who can also play there.
