We reported yesterday that both the Daily Mirror and the Daily Mail were saying that Newcastle were closing in on Crystal Palace’s young right back Nathaniel Clyne.
Nathaniel Clyne – Newcastle in talks with Crystal Palace
The right back has been scouted all season by Newcastle, but not much has been said about the lad this year – until the last couple of days that is.
We had thought when Manchester United and other top clubs were said to be interested in the player, that Newcastle wouldn’t have much of a chance,
But if the news is to be believed Newcastle are at the head of the queue for the England U21 International and are currently in talks with Palace.
The 21-year-old right back is out of contract at the end of June, but since he is under 24, Newcastle must still pay a compensation fee for him, and the size of that seems to be the disagreement between the clubs at the moment.
The news is that Palace want £5M for their top youngster, but Newcastle are willing to offer around £2M, but an agreement could still be reached to at least go to an arbitration board to settle the fee issue.
We think it’s hard for Palace to justify the £5M tag, but at £2M or even £3M, Nathaniel could become a great buy for the club, and of course the London club are simply trying to get as much as they can for one of their best young players.
We don’t want to overstate how good this lad is, because he still has a lot to learn, but he looks a great player in the making when we’ve watched him play this season.
And there may also be a move afoot to get more English players into Newcastle, and of course Nathaniel was born and bred in Stockwell, London – fairly close to where Chris Hughton was born.
If Nathaniel Clyne comes in, the conventional wisdom is that it would be to replace the departing Danny Simpson, but we think there’s a possibility Danny could still stay on Tyneside.
But it would be a great signing and a coup for Newcastle if they can get this lad on Tyneside – it would then have to be Clyne on the Tyne.
What do you think?

Comment #3Personally I’m fed up with Danny Simspon, kinda hope he’ll leave… he needs to stop dragging his feet and either sign or go… a huge fuss over a mediocre RB who can’t cross a ball to save his life.

Redondo77 & ilovetoon8788 are you Mackums in disguise or are you just really stupid. Selling Ba & Tiote would send the club backwards; especially if we sell them for £7M & £15M both should not be sold for anything less than £25M but if we are to progress and challenge for the top four we need to build a team around our core quality players e.g. Krul, Collo, Cabaye, Tiote, Ben Arfa, Cisse & Ba.

Comment #10Clyne on the Tyne may have a good ring to it and he’s a very good, young English attacking fullback but i can’t see us signing him. Simpson is destined to leave as his agent has convinced him that the World’s Best will come swooping in for a decent but error prone defender and offer him massive wages so he’ll end up at somebody like Southampton or Reading. Think that Pards want an older player with lots of international experience but not too expensive a la Cabaye’s good friend Mathieu Debuchy (the lad we all want). As well couldn’t see Clyne coming here as Tavernier is a similar age/player and will become the challenger for the RB spot after a loan to a good championship club next season or some carling/europa cup games for the Toon.

I didn’t say anything about Tiote. I’m only talking about his release clause is similar to Llorente and there’s nothing the club can do, and he doesn’t seem to be happy about Cisse stealing all the highlights. I don’t mind if Ba goes. There are many talented strikers who doesn’t have to leave for ACN. Grow up, Kid! Not everyone is a mackem and stop calling people stupid, it just shows that you are lack ability to debate.

Think Clyne would be quaily signing, future england international and at his age would probably be happy with 20 games for a top 6 side next season.
If we got Debuchy as well we would be laughing!!!!

Comment #17Seen him a few times, most impressive was for england u21 when him and our very own sammy were ripping it up down the right wing.
Other times were about 2-3 years ago when he seemed decent at best, but he was very young then.
