It could be a big season for Shane Ferguson coming up.
Shane Ferguson – big season coming up
Ever since he substituted for Jose Enrique a year last February and performed so very well, he’s looked a very good player when he plays for Newcastle.
And over the last few games of the season just past, when Alan Pardew brought the Derry-born lad on – he played some good sensible football, in that famous black and white striped shirt.
Ferguson can play just as well at left back or on the left wing, and of course he had a bad start to the season, being injured along with Danny Guthrie in the first 30 minutes of the friendly game at Darlington.
It’s what Alan Pardew is looking for in more of his squad players – players who can play several different positions for Newcastle.
We still think if Shane had been given a few games starting at left-back this year, he would have been just as good as he was last season.
The Northern Ireland international turns 21 in July, and Alan Pardew sees the lad’s versatility as a strength, and when asked which is his best position – the Newcastle manager had this to say:
“I don’t think it matters to him.” “I think he can play wherever I put him, a bit like Jonas Gutierrez has proven at central midfield, left back and wide up on the left of a front three.”
“Shane will get more involved. Ferguson’s a player who’s knocking on the door strongly.”
Those are encouraging words for Shane from the Newcastle manager.
And while Newcastle will sign at least three top players this summer, and replace any player who unexpectedly leaves Newcastle, the Magpies will have youngsters like Shane Ferguson pressing hard for a first team start next season.
And that just has to be good for the overall health of Newcastle United.
Shane, who stands a good 5’11” tall, has so far appeared 18 times for Newcastle, nine times in each of the last two seasons.

Comment #42Pieceofpapiss…You need a more reliable source than twitter or Cwarr07? I’d say a picture of a smiling Pardew is due in the next few minutes 🙂
Another way to answer would be, no, I have no reliable sources regarding the story – would love it to be true though!

Comment #49Shane Ferguson is going to a starter at some point. Could be at LB or LM. Very quick at deciding what to do with the ball.
Compare that with Obertan- who is faster, and probably more skilled- but doesn’t seem to be as quick-witted (in footballing terms).

I can see what you are trying to get at but its a little bit old school to think that wingers need to be a certain height to play the position.
Yes I agree with the centre of gravity in a tall player but if you are fast enough to pass a player with just speed then why do you need to jink around?
Try telling Usain Bolt he can’t run past another person and he will just laugh.
If you are quick enough just knock it past and run, jinking from side to side to bamboozle the other player is for those that feel they are not fast enough to just blow past them.

“I did not really a nickname in the locker room, but fans call me the ‘dreamboat’. I do not know how they found it. For them it is like the ships in “The Love Boat”. Otherwise, for short, they call me “Cabs”.

Comment #71Aaah the season has only been finished 5 minutes and I’m missing football already. When does anyone think we will hear about amalfatino and debuchy.
If we sign debuchy we can sing to the tune pass the dutchie on the left hand side
Pass to debuchy on the right hand side!
Bit lame maybe.

Comment #73Apparently Debuchy came onto the pitch at the end of the Lille game and looked like he was giving the fans a fond farewell.
My only sticking point is that his manager said that he would like him to stay. Does that mean he hasn’t made his final decision? Ibiza you need to a positive spin on this!
