Poll – Should Newcastle Sign Mark Davies for £3.5M

If Newcastle United have to pay £3.5M for midfield target Mark Davies from Bolton Wanderers – they shouldn’t bother.

Mark Davies – Bolton’s central midfielder

£3.5M is what Newcastle paid to FC Twente for Cheick Tiote a couple of years ago, and he’s a much better player than Mark, and it’s still a mystery to us why Newcastle are even interested in Davies.

Whenever we’ve watched him play for Bolton, he hasn’t looked particularly good, and surely Newcastle can get better players from the continent for a lower fee?

And the fact that Bolton are relegated means they will need to reduce their wage bill, and the Lancashire club are hardly in a strong position for demanding high transfer fees for their players.

And that’s especially true of Mark – whose contract has just one year left to run. and Newcastle could pick the lad up for nothing next summer.

Maybe it’s just us but we don’t rate this player.

Please tell us how you feel about this.

Should Newcastle Sign Mark Davies For £3.5M?

for 3.5m, yes we really should sign him! Along with stuart holden and chu-yong park, he was 1 of boltons only stand out players! I would love any of those 3 to be honest, if holden and park had been fit all season bolton would have been mid table!

with Corgnet, worth noting his team were relegated yesterday and will 100% be moving on, said a few times he wants to come to the premier league!

Got a sneaking suspicion that Peiters and Debuchy may sign.

Beardo they claim that I an you and that you are me that we are the same being. But you are too beautiful to ever be considered my alter ego.

Davies is a good player, just as good as Corgnet or Amalfitano.

Just because they’re French and unknown, doesn’t mean they’re amazing!

Rather have Corgnet at 4 million than Davies at 4 million.

Bolton will not accept 3.5 and Ashley will not be held to ransom. This is a no go I’m afraid!

I voted yes…i think he’s an improvement on Guthrie and whatever fee we get for Simpson will probably go on Davies…

Davies will be Pardew’s signing like Obertan last season….Tomkins maybe another

Is he English? He seems to have been at Bolton for centuries!

Not sure if he,s worth giving 3,5 Mil for though!

Would rather Holden though he’s out of our age range. Seems a decent player but am not sold on him tbh is he better that Guthrie who we are getting shot of?

wolves have got like a 25% sell on clause on him, it’ll take closer to 6/7m to sign him i think! Heard somewhere last season that West Hams tompkins had been promised a toon move at the end of the season if he knuckled down and played out the championship season after he was unhappy not to be allowed to go when we bid for him…..not sure how true that is like

is blowing Mark Davies trumpet is Coyle (The selling manager)

As far as I know apparently the only club interested is Newcastle even though this lad plays in the premier league.

I would rather give David Hoilett from Blackburn the 3 million a sweetener as he is on a free and he can play all the way across the midfield and up front.

Sometimes an indicator of the level of a player is with who that player is linked with.

Obviously this isn’t a clear or reflective grasp of the quality the player but it does give us an insight into their appeal.

The fact that Davies hasn’t been linked with any top clubs gives me a feeling that Corgnet (linked with a host of top premeir leauge and ligue 1 teams) is higher sought after.

Having watched them both this season (admitally on television) I dont think either would revoloutionise our team to a degree of un-rivalled brilliance (which Martin would IMO) but given the opportunity to meet Corgnets clause and in theory pay him less wages would make him the better signing.

Ad rather get Butterfield and Davies in instead of Amalfitano and Corgnet why sign 2 french players which no one knows about when we can sign 2 really good young english players who we could develop into england regulars..

All of you lot slagging simpson aswell.. How do you know hes on 25k per week? Yous dont your just guessing its pathetic hes been a good steady player for us and has saved us around 9 points this season without costing us, yes hes not the best going forward but es a steady defender and defence is his position i would rather have a good defender playing in defence than a player playing defence and trying to be a winger and not being able to tackle like G.Johnson for example

I’m with Mo on this. Would rather use that money and put it towards somebody like Marvin Martin! I agree he will be highly sought after but I believe that’s a better use of the money.

Jay – just because he has a 25% sell on clause doesnt mean the price increases from 3.5 million upto 7 million.. If they want 3.5million thats all they will get then they will have to give wolves 25% of that

Lol @ozsurf you do realise Ba was a pardew signing too? Also Carr will give pardew about 10options and pardew has to decide which ones fit in. Its not like carr does everything and pardew just walks around signing any of carrs sugestions…

I suspect the answer to both is NO!!

I feel that we can sign better than Mark Davies. It’s important that we stick to signing players from abroad. The only player I’d sign from England would be Adam Johnson. We need to be going after Marvin Martin, Brahimi, Boudebouz or Corgnet.

I reckon Guthrie’s about as good as Mark Davies. We need to step up a bit and try to sign the players that will help us to get that 4th spot next season. I wouldn’t rule Marvin Martin out. Cabaye and Ben Arfa will put forward good things about our club and we’re in Europe next season. The only player who I think we can rule out is Vertonghen (think he’ll sign for a Champions League team). We should be looking at Aldereweild and Mbiwa now.
