Lille Manager Wants Top Newcastle Target To Stay In France

News today that the Lille manager Rudi Garcia  wants his important players to stay at the French club next season.

Rudi Garcia – Lille’s successful manager

And that includes Newcastle target and French International Mathieu Debuchy, who is a close friend of Yohan Cabaye, and is expected to be a Newcastle target this summer for around £6M.

It also includes former England International Joe Cole, who is said to be a target of his former club West Ham, who were promoted back to the Premier League last Saturday, after beating Blackpool 2-1 in the playoff final at Wembley.

Debuchy is being sought by a number of clubs, including Spanish club Valencia,  and even Manchester United have been reported to be interested in the 26 year-old.

This is what 48 year-old Rudi Garcia, who played for Lille as a midfielder from 1982 through 1988, had to say:

“I want all the important players to stay at Lille next season,” “I include Mathieu in that.”

“I want him to have a great time at the Euros and then come back to us and show his best form during the summer.”

Newcastle would be fancied to be able to attract Debuchy to Newcastle, because there are a number of top Frenchman already on Tyneside, and Yohan Cabaye is his long term pal.

Rudi Garcia also wanted Yohan Cabaye to stay at Lille last season, until it became clear the French International midfielder had his heart set on joining Newcastle, and he did for €5M.

The same thing could happen with Mathieu Debuchy, and according to Yohan, Debuchy is very keen to come and join him at Newcastle United.

We’ve also got to believe that Newcastle’s name is golden in France right now – it was good enough before our incredible season that has just completed.

We’ll have to see how all this pans out in the summer months of course, with Newcastle unlikely to do too much business until after the Euro 2012 Championships finish on July 1st.

Hopefully that tournament will finish with England winning the whole thing, for the first time ever. 😀

Newcastle also have tabs on other defenders including Douglas of FC Twente, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld of Ajax, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa of Montpellier and Erik Pieters of PSV – to name only a few.

Newcastle should sign a couple of those listed above, although we will probably be surprised again at some of the players arriving on Tyneside over the summer months.

That’s just fine with us given the stellar buys Newcastle have made over the last couple of years.

Comments welcome.

I am almost sure, that debouchy wants ti come here and play with Yohan again. We will sign him unless his price rockets up during the EC.

    Hmm, not sure mate.

I still think we went into last season too thin at the back and that we need backup on both fullbacks.

Guess it depends on whether the Club sees Simmo as a squad player or a first team starter.

Think this is what the contract dispute is partly about.

Be interested to see what happens with regards Vertonghen. Said he wanted UCL football and he fancied spurs…but now they are in Europa will he have a change of heart? I would love debuchy and mbiwa to come in this summer. But with the latter winning Ligue 1 and offered champs league football is be surprised.

I do still think Pieters could be a great addition! Putting his game against England aside…as he was just coming back from injury, I believe he can do well here once fully recovered from his break. People said HBA would never reach his potential after HIS injury…now look at the lad!

Well, Cabaye came here even though Lille could offer him CL, so I don’t think M’biwa is that much of a long shot.

I don’t care for Vertonghen; as you said he wants CL and we’re not in the CL. I want players who really want to come here – CL or no CL.

Pieters is not good enough in my book.

Of course Garcia wants to keep his best players but the appeal of the Prem and playing with Yohan will persuade Debuchy to come here ahead of Man Utd & Valencia.
Hopefully we can sign Debuchy as our new much improved replacement for Simmo, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa to be our new CB to challenge with Saylor but also provide flexibility to play at LB, RB & CDM if needed, Junior Hoilett to add depth to our options on the wings & as a pacey CF to complement the physicalness of Ba & Cissé, Gylfi Siggurdson to get us the much needed goals from that three in the midfield & a young gun CF like Rhodes to provide cover for ACON and as a prospect for the future, fingers crossed this our team 1st XI next season (4-3-3):
Krul; Debuchy, S. Taylor, Collocini, Santon; Cabaye, Tioté, Siggurdson; Hoilett, Cissé, Ben Arfa
Subs: Elliot, Jonas, Mbiwa, Gosling, Ba, Marveaux, Rhodes

There’s plenty of debauchery in Newcastle regardless of who we sign but if we sign Mathieu it could be better. 🙂 😉

I would have thought that every manager, at every football club, would say exactly the same thing!!

They all want to keep all their players, all the time, except the ones they want rid of, but wont mention that in public lol.

I have a friend who plays for Newcastle and the rumours in the changing room are…. We have signed a French right back, he said he doesn’t know his name but more than likely this guy. Also pieters is a done deal as well as Guthrie Simmo and best apparently off to villa. But like I say thats just the players thoughts

Sorry lad, but most of us don’t buy into rumors – doesn’t matter if we like them to be true or not.

Pieters has been out for the past 6-8 months. It ain’t gonna happen mate 😉

    @Supertoonkid
I would agree with that team and signings, just cant see Mbiwa leaving the french champions and the champions league after playing for France at Euro 2012 to come and be a reserve for us. He would want guarantees to be a starter wherever he goes.

JD you think Mbiwa would only be a back up?? From what I see of him he could really challenge and (dare i say) push colo and tayls all the way!! It is a fantastic player and a great leader ! He and colo at the back would be incredible!

Apologies JD. Just re read supatoons post and see he has named mbiwa on the bench in that scenario, which is why you referred to him as a back up.
