News today that the Lille manager Rudi Garcia wants his important players to stay at the French club next season.
Rudi Garcia – Lille’s successful manager
And that includes Newcastle target and French International Mathieu Debuchy, who is a close friend of Yohan Cabaye, and is expected to be a Newcastle target this summer for around £6M.
It also includes former England International Joe Cole, who is said to be a target of his former club West Ham, who were promoted back to the Premier League last Saturday, after beating Blackpool 2-1 in the playoff final at Wembley.
Debuchy is being sought by a number of clubs, including Spanish club Valencia, and even Manchester United have been reported to be interested in the 26 year-old.
This is what 48 year-old Rudi Garcia, who played for Lille as a midfielder from 1982 through 1988, had to say:
“I want all the important players to stay at Lille next season,” “I include Mathieu in that.”
“I want him to have a great time at the Euros and then come back to us and show his best form during the summer.”
Newcastle would be fancied to be able to attract Debuchy to Newcastle, because there are a number of top Frenchman already on Tyneside, and Yohan Cabaye is his long term pal.
Rudi Garcia also wanted Yohan Cabaye to stay at Lille last season, until it became clear the French International midfielder had his heart set on joining Newcastle, and he did for €5M.
The same thing could happen with Mathieu Debuchy, and according to Yohan, Debuchy is very keen to come and join him at Newcastle United.
We’ve also got to believe that Newcastle’s name is golden in France right now – it was good enough before our incredible season that has just completed.
We’ll have to see how all this pans out in the summer months of course, with Newcastle unlikely to do too much business until after the Euro 2012 Championships finish on July 1st.
Hopefully that tournament will finish with England winning the whole thing, for the first time ever. 😀
Newcastle also have tabs on other defenders including Douglas of FC Twente, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld of Ajax, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa of Montpellier and Erik Pieters of PSV – to name only a few.
Newcastle should sign a couple of those listed above, although we will probably be surprised again at some of the players arriving on Tyneside over the summer months.
That’s just fine with us given the stellar buys Newcastle have made over the last couple of years.
