We reported late yesterday that Newcastle had put in a bid for Hartlepool United 17 year-old sensation – Luke James.
Luke James – undecided about joining Newcastle
We have heard from an acquaintance of Luke’s, that the 17 year-old is undecided as to what he should now do, because the last thing he wants is to move to Newcastle, and then be stuck in the Reserve side for the next few seasons.
While that’s a chance footballers sometimes have to take when an opportunity arises, we understand the position the youngster finds himself in.
It seems that Luke wants to play first team football, and surely it would be possible for Newcastle to sign the lad, and then send him out on loan immediately, so he can continue playing first team games, and getting that vital experience.
Maybe even back to Hartlepool United, and it wouldn’t be the first time a club had signed a player and allowed him to continue to play for the club he had just been signed from.
And Newcastle have become experts in recent seasons at putting things in place, so that youngsters can be effectively brought through the ranks – and since Alan Pardew came in – have them get first team experience out on loan.
But the news is that Luke is agonizing just a little a bit on the decision – but we’d still be delighted if Luke takes the plunge and signs on at Newcastle United.
Comments welcome.

Comment #3Would definitely be good if we could sign him and send him back on loan to Hartlepool. Playing 1st team football can only be good for the kid’s development and we see other teams do it, like Chelsea with that young Belgian lad they signed in January who stayed at his club.

Comment #4Buy him, loan him back and have him turn up to NUFC a few days a week for training so he can see the level he needs to hit and be playing at.

Comment #6I can’t see why he’s undecided. All he would have to say is ” I’ll sign as long as I can go back on loan to Hartlepool” . It’s a win/win situation. If not then he can just stay there.

Comment #7Somebody at the club should have been charged with gross misconduct to have let players like Alan Shearer and Micheal Carrick slip through the net.

Comment #14It’s not Hazard’s fault that he’s badgered by the press 24/7.
He hasn’t made up his mind. Is constantly asking him questions going to help?

Comment #16I must admit I agree on Hazard I am beginning to dislike him but at the end of the day I reckon it is (again) all down to his agent trying to get the best money for him
I doubt he is sitting in a high backed chair stroking a white cat with 3 contracts in front of his face laughing like a douche

You’ve got to remember, so many quotes get attributed to players wrongly.
The Sun published an entire interview with Ba, which turned out had been completely fabricated. Players have so many ‘advisors’ and ‘agents’ these days it’s ridiculous.

Comment #24If some team signs Hazard and then he got injured in the first game, that’s gonna be a joke. No one knows if he’s physically ready for the tackles like De Jong’s. He’s just a small lad. Even Messi can fail here as he has (kinda) indicated before.

Comment #27I have a feeling that nufc want to get a good group of youngsters together that play week in/week out together from the start of their careers and continue in that fashion until they reach the first team. That’s why letting this lad go out on loan and letting him miss out on premiership quality coaching may be anti-productive.
Not all players benefit from first team experience and some are better for being coached through the reserves.
Imagine having a great reserve team constantly playing together for 3 years, learning one another and transcending through until the first team.

he’s seventeen and needs to play at a higher level with a group of ambitious youngsters.
He needs at least three years development before he would get near our first team.
If he doesn’t make the grade he can play in the championship if he’s lucky.
Lack of ambition.
Think it through lad!

Then we sign a 12 year old Argentine midget with a growth hormone problem, pump him full of steroids, and watch him score 77 goals in a season.
Right?

Comment #32@ pizzicatochan – ahh don’t believe that rubbish that Messi couldn’t ‘handle’ the english league. It’s hardly particularly physical now is it?!?! Players are getting booked after cleanly winning the ball- don’t spout that rubbish that it’s ‘too tough’ for him here!!
He bounces off players when he wants to.

Comment #35I wouldn’t see the point in buying this lad then loaning him back to the Pools. He needs to start playing with better players and Beattie25 @ 27 is right – he should be coming through with equally talented players like himself at his level and being coached through by a Premiership club.
I think he’s a bit deluded (or insanely ambitious) if he thinks that first team participation should be quickly available to him at 17 year old. Unlike himself, reserve youngsters like Satka, Ferguson, Inman etc. have already played for their countries and he should be privileged to grow alongside them.
Inman etc. have already played for their country

I can honestly envisage that 😀
Suppose I should talk on topic for atleast 1 post….this lad is good at taking his shirt off with a ball on his back then catching said ball in said shirt whatever PL team DOESN’T need that in their starting 11 I do not want to be watching

At the very least, it would be entertainment during substitutions and other stoppages.
We could even wheel the lad out for half time to get the crowd going.
