Demba Ba – My Guys Are Working On New Newcastle Contract

10:32 am, Saturday, May 26th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 19 Comments

There’s some potentially good news in the local press today, that Demba Ba’s contract negotiations are still going on with Newcastle.

Demba Ba - my guys are working the new deal

The Senegal striker is away on vacation, for a well deserved break, but he says his representative (my guys) are in negotiation with Newcastle, and apparently the talks are still going on.

It was reported in some papers last week that Newcastle would not be offering  Demba a new deal, but that seemed odd after Alan Pardew had just said the club would try to renegotiate his contract,  to keep him on Tyneside.

His current contract is believed to contain a £7m release clause, and Ba put this out on his Twitter account last night, when asked about rumors that he wasn’t going to sign a new contract:

“I don’t know man. I just enjoy my holiday.”  “My guys are working on it. We’ll wait to see how far the talks go.”

Ba was 27 yesterday – so if you want to wish him a happy birthday - and ask him to stay on Tyneside - here’s his Twitter account.

Alan Pardew only last week admitted he was in no way sure Demba Ba would be a Newcastle player in September, as the Newcastle manager had this to say:

“There is a clause there. There is a situation with his contract, and we are in talks with him and his agent. It is not a foregone conclusion that he will stay.”

We hope the 27 year-old stays on Tyneside, and has the chance to form what could be a formidable strike partnership with his Senegal team-mate Papiss Cisse.

But last summer Newcastle had to pay his agents £2M to get him to sign on that free transfer, so we have to hope they’re not trying to line their pockets too much this time around - because that could prevent a deal being made.

This saga may drag on a few weeks yet.

Comments welcome.

And here’s hoping he signs it and we can all relax for the summer!!

driving to Richmond with his arm out the window and getting sunburn is too good for Ashley.

Ba what you got to lose, you aren’t going to get in the Manchester teams, we are as good as Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea, plus we will only improve, and better than both Liverpool teams

Going against what imo is the majority. I think ba will stay. He’s making all the right noises, so to speak. If/when Cisse gets injured, we need ba. We also need someone to fill in when these 2 go off for their January jolly. Anyone think Gary hooper is worth a punt?

i think Ba wants to stay but his agents are some dirty money grabbers who want some more of MA’s cash so they can take out or raise the clause. The saga continues!

Hooper will have a huge inflated price and is overrated as well, tbh i could snap my left leg off and play in the SPL. I agree though we do need a new, young CF to play when Cisse and Ba are at ACON; who i am unsure but it should not be Jay Rodriguez, Jordan Rhodes or Gary Hooper (all way too expensive for their actual quality). We could try Sammy or Vuckic there + sign Hoilett to play as a small Jermain Defoe type forward.

@6. I can’t help but think hoilett is spurs bound :(

  • 8 Graeme // May 26, 2012 at 11:06 AM

Ba, with the clause in place is only worth £3.5 million to us, (allegedly!) as he takes 50% of the buy out fee (Allegedly)!!

IF Ba could pass a medical, on current form, he’s probably worth about £24 Million or so. Its therefore a case of basic economics for Toon to get the clause removed to ensure that if Ba does leave, we get maximum benefit from it to fund his replacement.

The downside is once the clause is removed, if Ba suffers a serious knee problem, we will be paying his enhanced contract for a very long time with no return!!

    Swings & Roundabouts!!

@7 sorry meant to say a Hoilett type play e.g. can play on the wing or straight up as a forward. Players like Wilfried Zaha, Matty Phillips, Heung-Min Son etc. Definately though should try and get Hoilett as his contract is up but i think the main competition we’ll get for him is Bayern Munich as he is apparently attracted by the prospect of returning to Germany (he played in Germany on loan from Blackburn for a number years as they couldn’t get him a work permit).

Anybody know where Stuart went? Haven’t heard a word since Bendtner started playing for the mackems.Weird.

if we are going to play 433/451 i think ba will have to play second fiddle to cisse for the middle berth. while he did a grand enuff job out on the left there are defo better fits out there for that posistion (please adam johnson mr.ashley him n hba switchin wings = awsome). my point is i think we”re in a strong posistion negotiation wise. only engish clubs i think who may have an interest are arsenal and of course floppy chops at spurs. arsenal have just got podolski and rvp hasnt left yet so i cannot see how he would fit there unless rvp goes and spurs imo would be a sideways step but they’re surely gonna lose bale and modric so i think they may start to slide. unless psg come in for him we would easily be the best option for him on footballing and probably financial terms. i hope he stays but if not i lose no sleep over it.

I think i’ll remain on the fence on this one. If he signs a new contract with the clause removed and its a good financial arrangement for the club, naturally I will be delighted. If he tries to ask for too big a raise then I think we should let him go.

Very tough one to call. When Ba is on song he is pretty much unstoppable. However we haven’t really seen this since he returned from the ACON. In my view Cisse is a better out and out striker and deserves his spot as our main CF.

If we are intending to play a 4-3-3 (4-5-1) most of next season I think that there are better options to take that left sided berth than Ba.. Would love to have Son Heung, or Luke De Jong…would be happy with Adam Johnson too (not gonna happen for financial reasons).

    @ 10

Ive seen him around a few times…

  • 14 naptoon // May 26, 2012 at 11:33 AM

minato sadly i think you are spot on about johnson. :-(

  • 15 Minato // May 26, 2012 at 11:36 AM

    @14

Yeh i fear his wages will be a stumbling block. Shame really as hes a fan and quite a talent. Would be nice to have one or two english lads in the starting line up too. Think hes on 70k at City which will probably be the minimum he will be willing to accept. That would make him the highest player at the club..while I would love to sign him up would be unfair on the lads who have shown loyalty to see their wages go up.

Fathering a son who is the double of Ashley is too good for JFA.

Well need to keep the player at the Football Club, and we all so need a bigger squad at our Football Club as the Football team are in Europe other wise the footballs team league position will suffer and the Football team N.U.F.C we all follow could be relegated so we should or bear that in mind. But we wait and see what players are singed.I think best to buy them now before the European championship as the price goes up.
