Newcastle And Red Devils Fight It Out For Right-Back Targets

Newcastle are linked with two very good right-backs this summer.

Nathaniel Clyne – Newcastle interested in 21 year-old right back

Lille right-back 26 year-old Mathieu Debuchy and Crystal Palace”s 21 year-old right back Nathaniel Clyne,  have both been linked with Newcastle for at least the last six months.

But the news is that Manchester United also have both players on their radar screen, as Alex Ferguson seemingly wants to improve the full back positions at Old Trafford.

Clyne is an England U21 International,  and is generally recognized as the best  right-back outside the Premier League, as he was named in the Championship Team of the Season, for the season just completed.

The player will definitely leave Selhurst Park this summer, and there was even news last week that Newcastle were negotiating with Palace for the player.

One player whom Newcastle have to decide on is Danny Simpson, who has still not signed a new deal put to him by the Tyneside club, and Newcastle will have to decide at some point this summer, and the earlier the better,  when to fish or cut bait with the former Manchester United defender.

It’s kind of official that the Red Devils are interested in Clyne, as the Crystal Palace Chairman Steve Parish has said that.

The 21 year-old’s contract ends on June 30th but Palace are due some compensation for a player who has played for the first team since 2008,  and the fee could even be determined by a tribunal, if it can’t be agreed with the other club.

This is what Steve Parish said:

“We have long since resigned ourselves to Nathaniel wanting to go,”  “It is just a matter of talking to those clubs interested in him and agreeing a fee.”

We think either Nathaniel or Mathieu Debuchy would be good signings for Newcastle, whether or not Simpson leaves.

But if he stays,  it would seem the younger Clyne would be the better signing, and he could then challenge Simpson immediately for that right back spot on Tyneside.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

bet we don’t sign either of these! fully expecting some player we’ve never been linked with to turn up at right back next season! Trust in the system, its rare we sign bad players anymore!

I would happily take either of these. If Simpson leaves then both would be even better!

Debuchy looks a class act, wud be a wonderful signing, clyne would be a good consolation prize, him and Tav to fight over the RB spot, love seeing young talent grow at The Toon.

Bigirimana’s performances have seen him likened to Michael Essien in his style of play and his showings have not gone unnoticed by other clubs.

Think it will be an either or job on these two?

Would be happy with either to be honest, possibly more so Clyne as he is a bit younger and we need the British players in to keep some sort of balance?

Simpson is gone, this will be his replacement or we buy a LWB and let SanToon go on the right?

I still feel we’ll get Debuchy with what Pardew said in his interview about wanting one of Cabaye’s mates. We can sign anybody but if I had to choose one player it’s be Debuchy; he’s that good an attacking RB.

Deportivo won Huesca 2-1 yesterday and is leading Segunda by 4 points, with only one matchday left to come. Super-Depor is back in the big leagues next year, maybe they will add Xisco permanently to their ranks?

Yeah Bigirimana is top quality youngster we should go in for & also if we’re to take anymore from Cov there young CB Cyrus Christie is a very accomplished player at 19 also can play at RB.

We will never get both, they have both just had full seasons playing for their respective clubs and won’t want to sit on the bench for us.

@SirToonGospel – Was a bit harsh on Hatem and his tracking, he has upped his game a lot and we do need a RB that can offer a bit more moving forwards.

The lad has a tough choice to make, that’s if his only two options are us or manure!!! I would think there will be a lot more interest than that though!!

The lad at Coventry is supposed to be a beast – bit like Tiote. He’s only 18 and won apprentice of the year in the entire football league, ahead of Nick Powell. Think he’d be immense, think I suggested him previously. We must be in with a chance, Andy Thorne is their manager.

Clyne isn’t coming to be an understudy, surely? It is the one advantage we have over ManU. I think the club have to make a decision here. But if they are talking about signing Debuchy, a 26 year-old France international, is he really going to cost any less than Simmo is asking? Then its a question of how much better, if any, would the Frenchman be?

Looks like Nick Powell to Man U is not a done deal as Crewe say they have not had any bids – looks like a fantastic prospect – sign him up!
