Newcastle Linked With 53 Players This Summer

It’s customary during each summer that Newcastle are linked with almost every player under the sun.

Romain Amalfitano – Newcastle’s one acquisition so far this summer

And this year is no exception with Newcastle being linked with a host of different players.

We’re not sure how many of the stories are accurate, maybe about one in four perhaps, but just as an example,  here are 33 players Newcastle have been linked with so far this summer.

Virgil van Dijk – FC Groningen’s young 19 year-old Dutch defender
Romain Amalfitano – Reims 22 year-old midfielder – SIGNED
Douglas Franco Teixeira – known as Douglas – 24 – FC Twente
James Tomkins 23 – West Ham central defender – defensive midfielder
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – captain of French club Montpelier – 23
Jan Vertonghen – 24 – played for Belgium 35 times and he stands 6’3″ tall
Benjamin Corgnet – French attacking midfielder – 24 – Dijon – £4.5M?
Cheikh M’Bengue – 23 – Toulouse and Senegal left back
Erik Pieters – 23 year-old defender PSV – Holland left back
Jacob Butterfield – 21 year-old Barnsley central midfielder
Adam Maher – 18-year-old AZ Alkmaar midfielder
John Guidetti – 19-year-old Man City striker – on loan to Feyenoord
Mathieu Debuchy – Lille 26 year-old right back
Juan Pablo Pino – 25 – Columbian winger/striker – Galatasaray
Gylfi Sigurdsson – Hoffenheim 22 year-old midfielder – on loan at Swansea
Nathaniel Clyne – Crystal Palace 21 year-old right back
Anthony Knockaert – Guingamp 20 year-old midfielder
Jordon Rhodes – Huddersfield’s 21 year-old Scottish striker
Aidan White – Leeds 20 year old left sided player
Toby Alderweireld – Ajax and Belgium center-back
Aurelien Chedjou – Lille – 26 year-old Cameroon center-back
Kieran Trippier – 21 – Burnley – England U21 full back
Romain Hamouma – Caen right winger – 25
Tranquillo Barnetta – 27 year-old Bayer Leverkusen winger
Branimir Hrgota – Swedish U19 striker – 19
Roberto Rosales – FC Twente right back – 23 – Venezualen
Eljero Elia – Dutch International winger – 25 – Juventus
Gael Bigirimana – 18 year-old Coventry midfielder
Mark Davies – Bolton 23 year-old midfielder
Chung-Yong Lee – 23 year-old Bolton South Korean winger
Luke James – Hartlepool 17 year-old winger
Dusan Tadic – 23 year-old Groningen Serbian midfielder
Yacine Brahimi – 22 year-old Rennes French U21 winger

And it looks like Swansea may be signing Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, for around £7M – why were Newcastle not more interested in the player?

And finally – which 20 players did we  miss out?

In a strange way, good that Ba went off the boil towards the end or by now he would’ve been at Chelsea or Spurs. Now he just may sign an improved deal. Watch him come out all guns blazing next year, when he and Cisse will learn to play together and for each other, something neither did too much of last year.

    Hi Fellow Geordies,

I have long followed this blog and finally had the courage to join. To start off, I’ll try to put 10 best players from Ed’s list which Pards should target:

    1. Douglas – Great prospect for future and Europe-ready
    2. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – Strong defender, can give some real backup option in the defense with 60+ matches this season.
    3. Benjamin Corgnet – Get him £3-4M and would be a great bargain
    4. Erik Pieters – I think already in?? Wat say?
    5. Mathieu Debuchy – Would love to snatch him from Manures, wouldn’t we?
    6. Nathaniel Clyne – Danny off, Clyne in??
    7. Tranquillo Barnetta – one-two season more, and he’ll be out of reach!! Grab him..
    8. Chung-Yong Lee – Puts NUFC on Asian fancharts, and nice and fresh from injury. Good for league and FA cup ties, and backup as well.
    9. Rosales – May be good, may be not. But I already have too many defenders in my list 🙁
    10. Luuk De jong – Not on the list, Ed??

Sign all 53 players Pards and I’m sure they’ll be 1 or 2 gems. As for Hazard, didn’t ed say we had messi for 86mil instead

I don’t personally think we need that many signings for the new season, debuchy is definitley a must in my books and then I say a young striker along with a LW, Marveaux will be a massive plus for us and will ignite the team giving us some more flair, and then there is a new CB which is needed, but we must remember taylor will also be back in contention

Donno why in many threads that people wanna gut rid of BA!
Ridiculous altogether,we wouldn’t ave ad the season we had without his great start.
Season was is disrupted by stupid acon but even though he didn’t score he played out wide and helped feed Cisse.
The guy is quality and I for one hope he stays.

Debuchy is hopefully gonna happen but if we’re losing so many squad players we will need to replace em as the likes of Guthrie ain’t that easy to replace.
With Europe and the cups we could have have games 2 to 3 days apart and the squad will be stretched for players n quality.
With ferguson and Vuckic,Marveaux coming through it’ll help too.
A quality defender as to be done n dusted soon as with a better and quicker defence we woulda got a few more points
Collo said he loved playing with Sayls and tat Willo did well but we all know there is a gulf in class there.
Cred to Willo he did really well but at times s scary to watch how he defends with his arms all round strikers and pullin them all over the place.Hes good back up n for cups but better needed

Debuchy, out of the players mentioned, by far the most outstanding.
Reminds me of Cabaye, fiesty! great technical ability, good passer, can bring the ball forward and according to stats, gets an occasional goal.
But the possible combination of he and Cabaye and possibly HBA on the right would be a scary proposition for most left side defenses, add a bit of flair and we have a side worth watching.

don’t have the £ symbol on my aussie lappy

if we sign these 53 players, with the 26 we already have, we’ll have 79 players almost enough for a team and a reserve team for each cup/league

Joking aside, I’d be chuffed if we signed:
    – Debuchy/Clyne
    – Matuidi/Hoilett
    – de Jong/Giroud
    – Bigirimana
    – Young, quality CBs; let’s hope Graham Carr unearths some more cheap gems that no other club knows about.

We’ve got to place all our faith in Graham Carr and hope he deserves the goods…
And to think he’s Jimmy Carr’s dad! Unbelievable!
