Newcastle Offered French International Striker

Newcastle tracked Kevin Gameiro last summer, but the striker eventually moved from Lorient to PSG for €11M.

Kevin Gameiro – PSG striker

That’s about £8.8M in today exchange rate, but Kevin has had a poor season in Paris.

After scoring 24 goals in 41 appearances for Lorient in the previous season, he notched just 11 goals in 30 appearances for a side that finished second top of the French league, but he was not a starter for the club.

Gameiro agreed to a four-year contract at PSG, and Newcastle even offered 10M for the striker early last summer, but basically he wanted to remain in France.

Gameiro has not had a good season, and he has not been able to hold down his place as a starter at the Paris club, and add to that the fact he has fallen out with coach Carlo Ancelotti, and Kevin’s career over the last year has not exactly gone according to plan.

Indeed the news is that Carlo has contacted Gameiro’s agents, and told them to look for a new club for their player.

PSG have contacted Newcastle to see if they are still interested in the player, who has 8 French caps, but is not in Laurent Blanc’s squad for the Euro 2012 Championships.

And while Newcastle are looking to bring in a young striker to challenge Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse and Shola Ameobi for a striker position next season, players like 21 year-old Dutch International Luuk de Jong of FC Twente are better bargains than Kevin.

And Newcastle may become interested if Demba Ba elects to leave Newcastle in the summer, but we cannot see Newcastle even wanting to bring Gameiro to Tyneside now, after what happened last summer, when there were tortuous negotiations going on for him for many weeks.

The 25 year-old Gameiro had his chance last year to join Newcastle, but he didn’t want to come.

That seems to be the last chance he will get.

What do you think?

I think regardles if Bemba leaves, we could take both Gameiro and Luuk De Jong. ACOF, suspensions, Ba’s Knee, lots of games.. Loverkrands, Ranger leave, so it means we will have to trust Shola and Best being fit and scoring goals for quite a many games… I dont think Senegal will be out of the group stage this time…

i agree EPL would fit De Jong better IMO. But i can see gameiro scoring lots of goals too, he is such a good finisher.
We could play while ACON are on.

Also Marveaux instead of Vukcic is a Plausibility. Or De Jong in the Centre and Marveaux LW.

Ha! Tell him to go ‘eff himself!

Same as with Erdinc this – You got what you wanted as you weren’t bought in to us and now you have egg on your face.

    Scrambled egg.

Enjoy the bench with your high wages mate, you’ve earnt that.

Yeah Croftus, i was thinking the same.. We could take Gameiro on loan like Benny and see what happens. After loan spell if we want 6M and we have him (good international striker for Less than Jay Rodriguez )… good for both sides.. 🙂 His attidue wont be a problem at North East.

With the Gamerio carry on last year,we were a team that finished below the mackems weren’t playing the best football at all in that second half of the season and looked like a club in dissaray, different kettle of fish this year with only good news coming out of the club and Euro competition, can’t blame anyone for having doubts last year so lets wipe the slate clean for this lad if both parties are interested.

Wouldnt say he’s had too bad a season. His record in the actual league was 10 goals in 24 apps. But a fair amount were not starts.

If we sell Demba I would like this guy on tyneside.

And I’m sure he is in the Euros squad.

In other news. Louis Saha anyone?

And on the subject of France. Nasri has told his midfield to sort themselves out (in papers today). …HMMMM yes because Cabaye was so poor against Iceland and you were so good. In the words of Joey Barton #helmet

@ JFA – He’s not going to get a starting role with us until the boys go off to the ACN is he?

It’ll be the same situation here as PSG but without CL football…

We won’t offer him silly wages and he’s too expensive to put on the bench.

    It’s not going to happen.

If Ba leaves and we can’t get Ge Jong or Giroud, then Gameiro would be the next best thing especially since the ACoN is coming. We also need a young striker regardless since Best, Lovenkrands, and Ranger might all be gone as well.

11 goals in 30 appearances (of which not that many were starts)…….if he managed the same in this league then we would be well pleased.

Would love to sign him to be honest.

Let’s not forget Shola may also leave for the ACoN so again we need to get at least 1 young backup.

We do need a new CF and if we can get Gameiro on a good deal then we should probably get him and a wing-forward like Hoilett.
Bring in: Debuchy, Mbiwa, Harry McGuire, Ezekiel Fryers, Keisuke Honda or Marvin Martin (we need the goals they’d get from CM), Gael Bigirimana, Gameiro & Hoilett

I think what we need is a young striker hungry to prove himself and hungry for success; Gameiro has prized himself out of a move to NUFC.

I think we wil retain both Ba and Cisse, but Best and Ranger will be sold and Loven’s contract is up. We only have Shola and with his back and hips he onlt have half a season in him and at best he will be a late sub – think he’ll hold longer that way anyway.

I wouls like to see Vukcic used more offensive next season, maybe even in our 3 men strikeforce; he is very powerfull, has a good pass and a great shot.

Does anybody else have a worry that we may have been too slow on the transfer front this season?

I was massively confident players would be lining up to join us and that transfers will have been completed by July 1st but now I have a sickly feeling we are waiting to see how the Market pans out.

I’ll be devastated if that’s the case. I cannot stomach another season where we are massively under strengthed. We barely scraped through a 38-42 game season so I dare not think how we’ll cope with 50+ games.

I swear if I hear ‘we tried’ or ‘couldn’t get one over the line’ again I’ll become so disillusioned that I don’t think I’ll recover.

It’s only early doors yet but another dissapointing transfer window, whilst this close to greatness, would be disastrous!

One way to do this, take him on loan with a view to permanent signing.

Everyone wins, if he is good enough, attitude correct and he likes us ….SIGN

    None of the above…..DONT SIGN

I don’t see the fact that he went to PSG rather than us as a reason for not following this up.They are the team he supported , and who are obviously going places. It would have been odd if he had chosen to up root himself and turn his back on them. Now he has fallen out with Carlo it may well be an opportunity to wipe the slate clean , especially as he would be coming to a club with a good French contingent .

He’s a class act and it would be foolish to shut the door to such quality. We shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves in thinking we can do SO much better. Gameiro would be an excellent signing and I was really hoping we would sign him not so long ago. He wanted to go to PSG and it went pear shaped but we shouldn’t hold it against him. We were very much a mid-table team when he was considering our offer. Now obviously we are more of an attraction and we should make full use of our recent success and grab these quality players now that we can. A team’s fortunes can change dramatically in only one season as we all know too well.

The two signings I want the most this summer are Mbiwa and Martins. Then Luuk De Jong or Gameiro 🙂
