Newcastle In For Manchester City’s Adam Johnson

We knew Sunderland were interested in Manchester City winger Adam Johnson.

Adam Johnson – Manchester City winger interesting Magpies?

But today is the first time Newcastle have been linked with the player, who was on Newcastle’s books when he was a youngster.

And although Adam was born in the Sunderland area, he grew up as a Newcastle fan, even though his family were Sunderland supporters – that must have been hard to do.

Manchester City need to unload a number of their players this summer, to get more in line with the Financial Fair Play Rules being introduced by UEFA over the next couple of seasons.

But one stumbling block for Newcastle is that Adam is probably on a huge wage at the Premier League Champions, and his wages are estimated at £50K/week.

The news that Newcastle are interested is in the  Metro today, but we have no idea if there is any truth in the report, but we kind of hope it’s true, because we think Adam could be a very good player for Newcastle out on one of the wings, and he can score goals too.

The former Middlesbrough winger has not been able to get a first team place at the Etihad Stadium, and he wants more playing time at another club.

We think Sunderland could be in a better position to sign the player however, and the Black Cats could even take Adam on loan, something that Newcastle are unlikely to consider.

There are a few difficulties in Newcastle getting Adam back on Tyneside, but we still think he would be a good signing for the club.

What do you think?

Would be great but not likely. Colo worked hard for his high wages, I can see him and others being peeved that someone else simply walks into that kind of money.

Dont believe anything until its ‘Over the line man’ We will be linked with loads more players by the time the window closes.

Its all paper talk and rumours at the moment, none of them are right or very very rarely. Who knew about Cisse?! Nobody….Santon…Nobody, Cabaye was announced with little to no fanfare, as was Tiote, as was Marveaux, as was Ba….the list goes on….

When we sign somebody it will be on our website and thats the first we will hear,

Is we believe Mark Douglas etc… We would have signed Erdinc, Cissokho, Pieters etc etc etc etc by now,

None of them have sources lads, The club are experts ant keeping deals/targets quiet and also at using Smokescreens, and long may it continue!

No chance of Johnson signing for us, big transfer fee big wage, big bad attitude, hopefully if the Mackems do sign him its as a replacement for Sessegnon.

Get him to replace Gutierrez, I love Gutierrez but in terms of goals or assists he’s been disappointed. Imagine the team:

    ————-Krul————
    –Debuch—Collo–Saylor—Santon
    –HBA—Tiote—Cabaye—Johnson
    ———-Ba——Cisse—-

that team definitely has top 4 potential.

I would like it to happen but I doubt it also. Kinda hurts a bit knowing that he was on our books as a youngster and we let him go.

Colo Sus – We have been linked with so many playersas nobody has a clue who we are actually after. Last Year it was the Nzogbia saga all summer, it has been proven that paying 10 million for the lad was a big mistake.

We just need to be patient and whatever happens this summer we still have an exciting season to look forward too. Great players on the pitch and super young uns coming through, actually looking forward to seeing what amalfitano can do and seeing Sammy, Vuckic and Abeid with an extra year into them. Thing are looking up.

Bit Controversial, but i would sell Ba, think he has peaked last year, use the money to strengthen the squad. Disappointed Rodriguez has been sold, he may have been a decent acquisition.

Haha, thats what Im saying, lets just let the club get on with it and Im sure we will get good value. I like that we wont be ransomed for players anymore, and if we wait we wait. Worked with Cisse!

I would also sell Ba, but not to Spurs, purely because I hate Arry with absolute PASSION.

Would be nice but highly unlikely I believe. If he were to take a 50% drop in wages (£25,000 a week is still more than I earn in a year!!!), and play for his boyhood team and the club he supports then I say it’s a go-er!

    i’d prefer downing tbh,
downing has good cross, an international player, and give us different option than hatem and marveux, and he doesn’t have a good season in liverfool
adam and hba pretty much the same imo, the different is hba is more talented.
if we want to add more wing i’d prefer who can cross not cut-inside type, we already have that on hba

    Mate…. Downing is gash,

and Marveaux has a blindingly good first touch and Cross on him, technically better than Downing imho, hence Liverpool wanting him last season. Not sure who you have been watching?

Put the weed down pal, you are talking drivel.

This is nonsense (lazy journalism because of the geordie connection).

We don’t need wingers!! We have HBA, Marveaux, Jonas, Obertan, Fergy and Sammy – more than enough cover.

What we do need is a CB, Fullback (one side or the other), a CM to cover for Cabaye, Tiote and Jonas and a young non-african Striker.

Why are a few people saying he has a bad attitude? I have never heard anything like that about him before, have i missed something?

Also, @Fatman – Colo didn’t work ‘hard’ for the 70K/week seeing as he got it as soon as he signed for us. He’s worked hard since, but not for the initial wage.

i’d take Ignacio Gonzalez back rather than signing Downing. Possibley one of the most average players i have ever seen. He had one good season for Boro and he then apparently became a super winger but he has always been an average to poor player. Downing couldn’t get into our reserves leave alone starting XI.

As for Johnson excuse my French but f off. Aye the lad is good but he will cost in the region of £10M as City will not want to lose too much money on him (i’d only pay £7M at max). His wages are ridiculous and we will not pay him that as he’s not a guaranteed starter here as Ben Arfa and Marveaux are better so he’d have to prove himself like Colo.
My final reason for not buying him is that there are better, younger and cheaper options; we have plenty of winger but we need a wing forward who has the ability to play out on the wings of as a 2nd centre forward i.e. Junior Hoilett, Wilfried Zaha, Matty Phillips & Heung-Min Son.

Colo worked hard for his new contract and deserves it. Thats my point.

And he was signed in a different time when we spent lots of money and paid high wages. Not any more.

Which is why this Johnson link is a load of rubbish

Here’s a one for you, i honestly have the feeling we are going to win the Euro’s, Best keeper, sound back 4 with good technical ability, we will defend deep no doubt so Terry will be useful and not found out pace wise.

Plenty of heart and trickery and graft and pace in midfield and a little bit of spark up front, think we have a serious chance, and i also think that Hodgson will be an excellent appointment. For all the other teams may keep the ball for long spells, think we may have a gameplan to go far.

you’re right on their man if were we need a RB: Debuchy, CB: Zapata, CAM: Honda (if anybody comes in for big money it should be this lad not A Johnson), Forwards: Hoilett and Dost
also couple of youngster like the lad Gael Bigirimana, Ezikiel Fryers, Raheem Hanley & Harry McGuire

Can’t really see us going after him but i do rate him as a player. Should definitely be at a club where he’s getting some playing time. Mancini’s been pretty open about the fact he doesn’t think he works hard enough defensively but whenever I see him play he seems to do alright. Pardew managed to get Ben Arfa tracking back so I’m sure he could do the same with Adam Johnson if he had to.

I think we’ll find it hard to qualify from the group personally. Hodgson was an excellet choice but too late to make a difference and undo all the damage cappello did.

I don’t think the squad has enough quality.

Why so fuss about Johnson? There’s nothing denying his potential as a great prospect for us and driving our season as a first team player, but MA wont pay that wages he demands currently. Rather go for Hoilett. We have Marveaux and Guti that side of the pitch as well.

And for Chris Hughton, all toon army owes him big time for that straight promotion with a much-awaited silverware as well. Hats off..

If we see him wearing black and white next season then I’ll be over the moon. Ashley should back Parade if he is indeed a target and Alan wants more geordies in the team. Great player and part of the team that made City top 4 so if we want to get better then Johnson is a priority.

Failing that i’d take Hoilett or that Frei at Fulham.

how is Hodgson an excellent choice? He’s there by default and everyone knows it. Failed at Inter, Liverpool and Blackburn but was terrific in Finland !!! Lowered expectations is right.

not so sure Capello really did that much damage, probably just realised we weren’t good enough
