We knew Sunderland were interested in Manchester City winger Adam Johnson.
Adam Johnson – Manchester City winger interesting Magpies?
But today is the first time Newcastle have been linked with the player, who was on Newcastle’s books when he was a youngster.
And although Adam was born in the Sunderland area, he grew up as a Newcastle fan, even though his family were Sunderland supporters – that must have been hard to do.
Manchester City need to unload a number of their players this summer, to get more in line with the Financial Fair Play Rules being introduced by UEFA over the next couple of seasons.
But one stumbling block for Newcastle is that Adam is probably on a huge wage at the Premier League Champions, and his wages are estimated at £50K/week.
The news that Newcastle are interested is in the Metro today, but we have no idea if there is any truth in the report, but we kind of hope it’s true, because we think Adam could be a very good player for Newcastle out on one of the wings, and he can score goals too.
The former Middlesbrough winger has not been able to get a first team place at the Etihad Stadium, and he wants more playing time at another club.
We think Sunderland could be in a better position to sign the player however, and the Black Cats could even take Adam on loan, something that Newcastle are unlikely to consider.
There are a few difficulties in Newcastle getting Adam back on Tyneside, but we still think he would be a good signing for the club.
What do you think?

Comment #122check the toastie@109 find myself agreeing with you yet again. I think it’s too late for Woy to make sweeping changes for this Euro tourny but hopefully we’ll see fresh faces playing for England afterwards.

Comment #125Sick of you guys moaning and twisting – here have a go at this. Each player has their starts(subs) next to their name for reference. Basicly, pick 2 teams for next year from our current squad, and explain the reasons for both squads, and which competition you would use them in!

Comment #126From a reliable source: Johnson is away on holiday at present. His representatives will be meeting Man City within the next week. He’s gutted that he missed out on the England squad and wants first team football. He’s after either a season long loan or permanant move and would take a wage cut.
He would be loved at the Toon.

Comment #127Hopper, I can still see Gabriel coming good. Think he is decent already, but spending time training with Guti on the defensive play, and Benny Boy on his attacking, all tied in with his pace = hopefully another Pardew Project Prize Player?

If thats true we can offer the wage cut but cant promise 1st team.
I think he would get a fair amount of games her but he’d probably rather join a cr@p team like Sunderland where he will pretty much be garunteed a starting place

He’s a class act. I think if he came here, he’d be played as much as possible. The Toon crowd including me have always loved a winger who can score and create. I think Ba will leave. Arfa, Cisse and Johnson as the top 3.

Comment #133We need a new CB, and preferably one that can actually be a semi-threat going forward ie. Douglas. After we sign AT LEAST one CB we can talk about Debuchy but I wouldn’t touch Johnson. We have Fergie who can be a winger as well as Jonas and Marveaux. We’re set in the midfield department for now.

Comment #137In order for us to compete with the best in Europe, Ashley has to spend. No £20million+ signings but surely we need to pick up a fair few for very close to £10million. Only of he invests will Newcastle reap the rewards.

Comment #138Taking the papiss…When you say the best in Europe, I assume you mean your Barcelona’s, Real, Manchester, etc?
I don’t think Ashley has any plans to be doing that anytime soon and with his current investment plan, we seem to be able to battle it out with the, shall we call them “second tier” Elite of Europe.
I would be happily surprised if we get one £10m signing, but certainly not counting on it. We will pick up free’s, any a few (hopefully) between £2-5m imo.
This is unless we sell a high valued player, then I would expect a biggish signing, with perhaps some smaller priced, squad signings (i.e. sell carroll for £35m, buy Cisse for £9m, Ba for Free, Obertan £3m, etc).

Comment #139Just been reading some comments from Liverpool supporters on their web site one muppet is actualy suggesting that Rogers will be booed the first bad result.I suppose this must be the clown that said Dogleash was the best manager they ever had ,i am sure a lot of genuine football supporters would surely put Shankly & Paisely head and shoulders above Dogleash.

Only way we’ll get him is if we get rid of Oba,and I dont think anyone would be pay three million and Pards wouldnt want to admit failure yet.

Comment #146Agree completely Ibiza, I’m just saying that for Newcastle to take their next step, we will have to spend more- there’s no other way to go about it to build sufficient depth with quality to compete in all leagues and cups.

Spend more that is.

Comment #148I’d like us to sign Johnson. He supported us as a lad so surely if he was a fan he would take a pay cut to join us. If not I’m sure some sort of deal could be struck with city for a loan spell and a possible future fee.
I’m also surprised to have not seen joe Allen linked to another club. Although I suppose he will be linked to Liverpool with rogers getting that job. But I think he could do a job for us. Jonas is not a centre midfield player and I think if we had Allen, cabaye and cheick across the middle it would be a good combination. Allen isn’t a stand out player by any means but he retains possession and does what is needed of a cm. I think those 3 could have worked well. He would also allow cabaye a little more freedom as both Allen and cheick would be a little deeper

Comment #149One 9m+ signing is good, don’t get me wrong, but we need a couple more… I think Ashley realises we’re not a selling a club and that he does need to fund for some game-changing players

Comment #151Adam Johnson ??? Come on guys get real ! He’s not French , would cost lots of money and want a big salary so hardly fits in the FCB’s transfer blueprint . Forget about big signings and worry about the inevitable departures as we all know he likes to line his pockets every transfer window . I will be staggered if there are not at least 2 high profile departures before 1st September
