The Newcastle fans web-site NUFC Fans is reporting that Newcastle United may be interested in 27 year-old Senegal striker Dame N’Doye.
Dame N’Doye – Newcastle watching this player?
The striker is a little old for Newcastle at 27, and he turns 28 in February, but maybe he would be a decent replacement if Demba Ba leaves Newcastle for Tottenham.
We probably don’t want to sign many more African players, because of losing them with the African Cup of Nations being every two years in January and some of February, but replacing Demba Ba with another African would be okay we suppose.
This player who stands 6’1:” tall, can certainly score goals, and since he signed for Copenhagen from Greek club OFI Crete in 2009, he has scored 82 goals in 150 appearances for the Danish side, and last season he scored 24 goals in 44 matches – which is not too bad at all.
N’Doye’s agent Niclas Jansen says that Newcastle have watched his client a few times, and he had this to say:
“I know there are lot of rumours about Dame – with a lot of interest from clubs around the world. He’s done really well here at Copenhagen.”
“Newcastle have watched him a few times. We heard they are interested but as of yet there has been no official approach from the club.”
“Like any player, Dame is flattered with the reports. He knows about Newcastle’s history and tradition – and he knows that both Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse have done well there.”
“We’ll just wait and see what happens. If they want to talk, we are here.”
N’Doye has played 12 times for Senegal with four goals, and he is in the current squad that is being captained by Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse, and Demba Ba was not called up for these World Cup qualifying games.
And indeed N’Doye scored Senegal’s second goal in their come-from-behind 3-1 win against Liberia on Sunday night – that’s the game in which our lad missed a penalty after 10 minutes.
So Dame will know all there is to know about Newcastle from his captain Papiss Cisse, and Newcastle should get a ringing endorsement from Papiss, after his short but fantastic time on Tyneside.
This player certainly looks like he can score goals, and if he is to replace Demba Ba we suppose that would be okay.
But we’d still prefer to see 21 year-old Dutch International striker Luuk de Jung come in, if Demba Ba moves on, but if Newcastle want a cheaper option for some reason, it seems that Dame N’Doye could be a decent acquisition.
What do you think?

Comment #1Didn’t realise he was 27- probably not then unless it’s under £1m.

Comment #8We need another African striker like we need a hole in the head – we lose them for 2 months every two years – who needs it??
Any replacement for Ba (I know, he’s not going) has to be Non African, purely for stability and continuity!!

Comment #14I’d rate this one 2/10. It would be reckless to sign up another lad who is going to go off every January for 6 weeks and one who is 28? But I can’t see us splurging 12 million on De Jong, either, frankly.

Comment #15N’Doye would be a scoop for any club. He would cost only 6 mil. and thats for a proven striker with Champions League experience!

Comment #16No more ACN strikers please. In fact as long as we hang on to what we’ve got, we don’t need another striker.
Another attacking midfielder/winger would be my preferred choice.

Comment #18Look i seriously doubt the ACN will ruin our season since it is played every 2 years…
If we loose Ba or Cisse, N’Doye would be a great replacement..
