Well would you believe it – news on the Newcastle site has just gone up, that Chief Scout Graham Carr has signed a new eight-year contract with Newcastle United.
Graham Carr – eight year deal at Newcastle – great!
Graham is not young, and he’s just one month older than myself, which will make him75 when his contract is up in 2020, and we hope that means he will have brought a lot more top players to Newcastle in that time-frame.
And an interesting fact on Graham is that his son Alan Carr is a top comedian, best known for co-presenting The Friday Night Project and hosting his own show called Alan Carr: Chatty Man.
The new deal for Graham is obviously key in making Newcastle United into one of the top European clubs over the next several years, and he has the full confidence of everybody at Newcastle, including the fans.
Graham has that rare skill of being able to spot a very good player, and his skill over the last 30 months in his scouting, is one reason why Newcastle have done so well.
And Graham was the one to scout players like Hatem Ben Arfa, Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye, Papiss Cisse, Demba Ba and Sylvain Marveaux and bring them to Tyneside, so he has already saved Newcastle millions and millions of pounds.
Newcastle’s Managing Director Derek Llambias had this to say today:
“We are delighted to have agreed an eight-year deal with Graham, and very pleased that he has committed his long-term future to the club.”
“He has been instrumental in helping us to bring some truly exceptional players to Newcastle United, and he has deservedly built one of the best reputations in the business.”
“Graham works tirelessly to identify talented young players from across the world, and has done a magnificent job over the last two years. He has the complete faith and support of the owner, the board and the manager.”
“And it is excellent news that the club will continue to benefit from his expertise for many years to come.”
We have to think the compensation Graham is getting from Newcastle is high, because he is essentially doing the job of once Director of Football, Dennis Wise, who was paid £1M a year by the club, and his remit was to bring in one top player a year.
Graham has been much better than Dennis ever was at Newcastle.
Graham Carr was born in Corbridge in Northumberland, and has been at the Tyneside club since February of 2010, when he was brought in by then manager Chris Hughton, who knew Graham from his scouting days at Tottenham Hotspur.
This is very good news for Newcastle.

Comment #50Can’t see there being too much truth in the kalou story, but guess if his wages are reasonable he’d be a good addition, sometimes he looks class but in other games he can’t make one successful pass. No hoilett stories so he must be about to sign!

Glad they have got it done.

I don’t know which Carr you’re on about as a centre back but Allan definitely plays in the rear.

Comment #63What do ye guys think about the Jong Il-Gwan rumours? The Daily Mail seem to think there’s a good chance of it happening now. I’ve never been their biggest fan but there are a lot of rumours coming from Serbia that Partizan are looking to get him as well. PSV aren’t far behind either it seems.

Comment #64De Jong set to remain with FC Twente

However, reading article:
“I have still heard nothing [and] I therefore assume that I [will] just stay at Twente,” he told TC Tubantia.
“[Perhaps] something very attractive [will] come. Then I’ll consider it.”

Comment #65Predictions for the Euros:
England to be eliminated after the second game against Ukraine when Andriy Schevcenko scores a hat trick. Chelsea buy him shortly after fr 35 million.
Andy Carroll is shot after breaking his leg against France. His owner Kevin Nolan says it was the humane thing to do.
Joe Hart is injured after Jordan Henderson tells him how much he cost. Joes ribs actually crack with laughter. Roy Hogson resigns after the FA refuse to call up Pepe Reina as Joe Harts replacement.
Stewart Downing finally scores. Unfortunatley henputs the ball past his own keeper as Sweden romp home 4-0.
FIFA ban Wayne Rooney from representing England after official investigations show Rooney is only eligblr to play for Scotland. Rooneys defense that it was Mike Myers who provided the Scottish accent for Shrek.

Comment #68Haha Beattie keep those coming!!
I think we will sign some relatively unknown players who will go on to become stars next season. I wouldn’t bank on Debuchy, De Jong, Douglas or anybody with a price tag >5m to come.
By the way Ed you are 67 years young Sir.

Comment #69If we want De Jong we should probably sign him before Arsenal decides upon what to do with RVP. De Jong could be high on their list of replacements.

Comment #77All these managers coming and going it seems like a bit of a merry-go-round would be ironic if Macleish ended up back at Brum, although Villa taking him in the first place was probably the most ridiculous decision ever made or at least since we paid a relegation threatened Blackburn compensation for Souness.

McLeish being hired at AV just implies that the board there has little knowledge of what makes a GOOD manager.
If the top isn’t clear on who and what they want in a manager, then the club will never be succesfull either.
I blame our success this season, overachieving for some, that we now have structure, and it’s still improving, from top to bottom.

Great find on the Debuchy article – made for decent reading too.
I really think we should raid some of Ajax’s young quality players – with Vertonghen, der Wiel out the door; others may want to leave.
