Cisse Scores But Senegal Held – Holland Lose

6:04 pm, Saturday, June 9th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 102 Comments

It looked like Papaiss Cisse’s goal after 36 minutes would be enough to give Senegal its second win in the African qualifying Group J, for the 2014 World Cup to be held in Brazil.

Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse scored for Senegal today

But a late equalizer from the penalty spot by Godfrey Walusimbi,  gave Uganda a surprise point against the favored Senegal side.

But Senegal still currently head their group with 4 points from their two games, and Liberia are due to play Angola tomorrow to complete the qualifying games scheduled for the summer.

Papiss played the whole game for Senegal, and as well as scoring he also managed to pick up a yellow card after 63 minutes.

Former Newcastle target, Toulouse left back Cheikh M’Bengue,  played the whole game for Senegal.

Newcastle defensive midfielder Cheick Tiote should be action later today, when the strong Ivory Coast side take on Morocco in Group C.

And in the first shock of the Euro 2012 Championships today, Denmark beat Holland 1-0,  with a goal after 24 minutes from Krohn-Dehli.

The Denmark back four were in terrific form, with captain Daniel Agger leading the way for his country, with an excellent performance at the back.

Holland simply missed too many chances today, and the World Cup finalists are now in danger of being eliminated, as they have to play Germany in their next group game.

Comments welcome.

    Graham cwarr

He is, I remember him being on here a few weeks ago, he was making the Bindippers sound good.

  • 2 papiss_on_your_parade // Jun 9, 2012 at 6:07 PM

Keep it up cisse. Just hope this doesn’t create more interest in him worldwide! Would hate to lose him, absolute key asset for next season.

Also, affelay looks a great player, would love to sign him.

  • 4 GeordieToon89 // Jun 9, 2012 at 6:10 PM

Henderson, Carroll, Downing, Suarez, Enrique = Around £100million….

Cabaye, Cisse, Ben Arfa, Ba, Tiote, Santon = Around £26million…..

We finished 5th and 13 points ahead of you deluded fools.. worse than the mackems you lot

  • 5 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 9, 2012 at 6:12 PM

    @ cabaye4

Wow i knew things were bad for bindipper fans but really? Having to spend your sat eve trolling a toon blog u sad little scouse!!

When ever i feel down i remember that famous song that reminds me there are others far worse off how did it go? Ah yeah

    But it could be worse,
    You could be scouse,
Eating rats in your council house!!

  • 6 Klatoon // Jun 9, 2012 at 6:18 PM

Ed, it was hardly a surprise point for Uganda, we haven’t lost a home game for 7 years. Heavy hitters like Ghana, Nigeria and Angola have all lost here so Senegal coming away with a draw is a massive result for them. Cisse was peripheral today apart from his goal and his booking was as a result of a petulant trip on his marker out of frustration at a lack of service.

Is it just me or is the pitch in the Holland v Denmark game a really dark green

  • 8 Tsunki // Jun 9, 2012 at 6:25 PM

Well done all in repelling the bin-dwelling rodent pie eaters. I do wish we had some more of these individuals in boring times such as these do. Need to sharpen my abuse skills while there’s a lull :)

  • 34 MagpiesFlyHigh // Jun 9, 2012 at 6:55 PM

Are the Dutch going to qualify ? They needed this one.
The Danes are dark horses in this group, suppose the German game will decide it.

    NUFC 83

    But wasn’t Schneider’s passing sublime ?

  • 35 hoppernufc // Jun 9, 2012 at 6:56 PM

Nufc, what does the bulger killing have any relevance to newcastle united? Yes it’s a tragedy but why bring it up here?

  • 41 Tsunki // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:02 PM

tads – lol I was attempting a count of how many times his team mates couldn’t pass to him because he was strolling about offside. He must be the only player who has pockets in his shorts, ’cause his hands were in there all day. Lazy get.

  • 44 super magpie // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:04 PM

Also van persie was awful today. So was robben. Afellay was decent, he would a good signing. But Denmark defended well and grinded out the win.

Haha Harry’s just done another ‘ I tried to sign him for Tottenham’
Who haven’t you tried to sign ‘Arry?

  • 45 jesperfuglsang // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:04 PM

    GT

Yep, both Agger and Kjær were our CB today and they did really great.

Eriksen and Bendtner were anonymous sadly :-(

  • 46 GeordieToon89 // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:04 PM

Right lads.. just move on from the fact the Bulger killing was brought up, he’s apologised for any offence just accept the apology and start talking about football and newcastle again please…I for one never took it in a bad way when he mentioned it and I understand he wasnt trying to cause offence so i accept his apology.. move on lads

  • 47 GeordieToon89 // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:05 PM

  • 48 dbeeio(The poster formely known as KissMyAss) // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:06 PM

after that kinda performance, no chance of us getting Simon Kjiar

  • 49 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:06 PM

Nufc83 thought the same n said the same during the champions league final some with ribery too would hate to be a bayern fan supposedly the 2 best wingers in the world and all they do is shhot from miles out n lose possesion!

Has out little mate cabaye4 been caught squating at the back of the libary and been thrown out?

  • 50 graham cwarr // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:08 PM

I like that there’s all these class players that arry tried to sign. If he’s telling the truth they never went to tottenham. Because tottenham aren’t a big team?
Because they aren’t good enough for these players?

  • 51 papiss_on_your_parade // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:09 PM

Fair enough mate, personally didn’t take offence, just thought it seemed out of place. It’s obvious it wasn’t coming from a bad place.

Anyway, let’s sign affelay please. He’s only played 300 minutes since his injury, could be the next ben arfa!

    What do we think?

  • 52 croftus5678 // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:09 PM

    yep kjiar sorry

  • 53 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:09 PM

Nufc786 bit silly gor bringing it up but fair play for facing up and apologising now lets move on lads

On kjear remember bieng linked withim before he went to roma want he actually a toon fan??

  • 54 nufc786 // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:12 PM

    toonarmydownsouth
a moment of stupidity i will admit tht…

  • 55 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:13 PM

Cwarr ol arry just likes to big himself up truth is hes an average manager whos had a huge transfer kitty and bought average players!

Really hoping this affalay story is true now because dare i say it? Yeah i do hes like another benny but slighty better at doing the simple things to and fcuk me did that lad cover some ground tonight!

Also agger was class tonight he deserves better than playing in the ars3hole of england

  • 56 Nufc-83 // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:14 PM

Ye nufc786 has apoligised lets leave it at that. Yes schneiders passing was class but won’t get many pts for that.
Who did harry say he tried to sign.

  • 57 hoppernufc // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:14 PM

We were linked with kjear on this blog a few weeks back apparently he’s had a terrible season on lone at Roma so we should get a bid in ASAP, also I thought afellay was poor in that game n Robbin has got to be the most overrated player on this planet he’s useless.

  • 58 niafron // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:15 PM

    Bonsoir messieurs.

    Congratulation Jesper!

  • 59 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:15 PM

Nufc786 every1 has moments of stupidity mate dont sweat it youve done the decent thing and its forgotten about

  • 60 graham cwarr // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:18 PM

@tads harry has had huge transfer funds everywhere. He helped ruin southampton and portsmouth imo.
I bet he rarely picks out a players to buy himself.

  • 61 niafron // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:18 PM

Wasn’t really disapointed by Netherlands cause i wasn’t impress two years ago.

For me, they won only one difficult game, against Brazil, and only cause the Brazilian (especially the keeper) gived the game away.

Alot of good players, but no teamplay.

  • 62 niafron // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:21 PM

Denmark for his part was impressive.

Danish squad is far from being the most impressive in this tournament, but they played simply, fully committed to their task, and (what a surprise!) against a team of gifted but selfish players, they won.

    Sometimes, Football is quiet simple.

  • 63 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:21 PM

Cwarr funny enough we were talking about this at work a few weeks back one of the lads is pompey fan and holds him as the main reason they went in to administration then bought all the players back to spuds on the cheap!

  • 64 ToonDownSouth // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:22 PM

I bloody loved that game! Bendtner was anonymous though, and if the RB (Jacobsen??) could cross a ball the Danish could have had a hat full.

The BBC did the Danish a massive dis-service though. The Dutch didn’t dominate anywhere near as much as they kept making out.

  • 65 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:22 PM

Niafron would of been a different game if they had started timmy wouldnt see him getting nutmegged from six yards;)

  • 66 Indian Magpie // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:24 PM

    Brazil argentina in a while

  • 67 super magpie // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:25 PM

    Cwarr

He did save portsmouth from the drop twice, all he did was prolong their PL stay. Southampton were a sinking ship at the time. But he basically had the players he needed there when he arrived at spurs. Although I wouldn’t say it’s lucky to finish 4th.
Still it was funny to see them collapse this season and be in the EL with us :)

  • 68 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:26 PM

@TDS of course bendtner was anonymous hes been playing for the scum all year its all he knows now!
And tbf all commentary teams do the same big up the favourites you wont hear any praise for the danes unless they progress from the group

Also love how seedorf spent the whole tome looking like he was gonna slap arry!

  • 69 ToonDownSouth // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:35 PM

    Yea, true mate.

It just annoyed me that they kept quoting how many ‘attempts’ the Dutch had. 75% of them were speculative efforts from 25 yards though. There were 4 or 5 moments where they should have done better, but the Danish got into a lot of threatening positions.

It’s a shame that Eriksen didn’t live up to the hype immediately, but he was never going to have any room with Holland playing 2 DM’s.

  • 70 niafron // Jun 9, 2012 at 7:35 PM

Anyway, another great game is coming. Got to go lads.

I don’t think I have said anything wrong mate :-) The English team of late is just not my cup of tea.

  • 102 valle // Jun 10, 2012 at 8:10 AM

JFA… I was going to cheer for England on monday, but after reading what you wrote I am hoping that their B-Team gets beaten like it should be… See, I can be singleminded as well, and Jesperfuglsang is not the only Dane on here to your information, nor did he say anything wrong for that matter. To the rest of you English fans out there, hopefully you got the irony, I wish England no harm whatsoever, Im just sad we no longer have a truly great player in the national side.
