News today that Turkish club Galatasaray have ended their interest in Newcastle’s Senegal striker Demba Ba.
Demba Ba – asking for £70K/week?
And to think we didn’t know they were even interested in Demba.
Of course we have no idea if these reports are true, but apparently Ba is asking for £70K/week wages, and that’s too much for the Turkish club, and manager Fatih Terim is keen not to disrupt the team spirit at the Turkish club by paying new players exorbitant wages.
Galatasary won the Turkish League title last season with 77 points from their 34 games, and were 9 points ahead of their fierce rivals Fenerbahce, who were in second place.
If we are to believe the reports on Demba Ba’s contract, as espoused in such great detail in January, by both Harry Redknapp and West Ham co-owner David Sullivan, the release clause for the player is in the region of £7M, and it’s supposed to be active from June 1st until the end of July.
So it’s probably good news that Ba is asking for sky high wages, which is a little strange, since Newcastle manager Alan Pardew had said that Demba Ba is not particularly motivated by money – as long as gets his Strawberry Syrup he seems happy enough. 😀
If Newcastle can hold onto our three main strikers – Papiss Cisse, Demba Ba and local lad Shola Ameobi – and bring in 21 year-old Luuk de Jong of FC Twente, then Newcastle will have strikers who will strike terror into opposing defenses next season.
That sounds good to us – in fact it sounds very good to us.
Luuk has been a Newcastle target for a couple of years now, and Graham Carr has regularly watched FC Twente games this last season, and Luuk has scored an impressive 59 goals in 119 appearances for the Dutch club, since he joined from De Graafschap in 2009.
Luuk is currently in the Dutch squad of 23, and Holland were surprisingly beaten 1-0 yesterday by Denmark, in the first Group B match of the Euro 2012 Championships.
Maybe they should have given Luuk a run-out in that second half?
Comments welcome.

Comment #46These Italians sure know how to dish out a tackle 🙂
Ref is doing well too, letting some crunching ones go which I’m expecting him to blow for.
I’m for Italy based on not being able to stand this tika-taka bland… sorry brand of football. Plus their anthem is a good to bop to!

Comment #55I think Jay Rodriguez is a great player and will be a great signing for the saints.
However if he costs the same as a Dutch international striker then I’m glad we have turned our attention to De Jong for the same (or similar) price.
£7 million is far too much IMO and if English Players For Toon turns up again I would like him to justify the over inflated prices of all English players whether or not they come from the top flight or second and third teir of English football.

Comment #57Would love us to sign De Jong been saying it for over a year now, wether ba leaves or not we should sign him up we need strikers and coming in and playing a part until Ba and Cisse go away to africa then he should be fully settled and he can start smashing them in and he’ll be a regular.. cracking player

Comment #61I agree. Rodriguez will be a good signing for them but we need to set our sights higher. De Jong would be ideal.
Saw that story about guthrie’s wedding. Really surprised. Doesn’t seem the sort to have such a pikey wedding.

Comment #63Finally as goof as I believe Curnin Anita will be the press statement posted above that says he will be a direct replacement for Simmo is a load of shite.
And if it isn’t I’ll be very upset as he can do a job there but he isn’t a RB.
Thoughts??

Comment #70I do hope we get de jong but It doesn’t seem likely, and where did people get this 7 mill from?? He will cost double that, didn’t Ajax come out and say they will only entertain offers of 12 plus million??
I wud like him, yes, but if Ba stays and Cisse too, i dnt think we will buy dejong, i wud rather that money be spent on our defence tbh and get a cheapish young striker to compliment abied vucik Sammy and fergie

Comment #71I don’t think ba is trying to put people off. He could just say he doesn’t want to move, and the 7 mil clause wouldn’t matter.

Comment #72we need a quality striker to put pressure on Cisse and Ba.. if we just have those two and then a young striker with no experience we’d be buggered when the ACON comes along or when/if they injured or suspended… plus what happens when this ramadan thing comes in? August last year Ba was shiite so if both are shiite we wont score any

No Ajax didn’t come out and say they would only entertain offers of 12 million because he plays for FC Twente.
He is valued at 7 million and may cost more but who knows?

The last thing we want with all this latent homosexuality going on this afternoon is being buggered during the ACON…
They all want to sign Ramos asap -so some of the guys won’t want to wait that long…

Comment #75Wish we would hurry up and bring in a few players but i suppose the tournament is slowing things down which is understandable. Would love us to bring in Debuchy, De Jong and Anita as well a top central defender. And to keep Tiote, Cabaye, Hba and Ba would top of a great transfer window and push us further towards a CL spot next season.

Beattie25 – A dont think his price will increase via the Euros as it doesnt look like he’s going to get any minutes.. they play 1 upfront either Van Persie or Huntelaar so the other is benched then ano who a would bring on if a had one those on the bench ha
Huntelaar(48goals) or De Jong(32goals)
Van Persie(37goals) or De Jong(32goals)

Comment #77I don’t think we can and I don’t think Ashley will allow the situation with Ba’s release clause tc continue indefinitely as it sets a dangerous precedent. It needs to be sorted one way or the other or it will always be hanging over us with the player and agents having too much power.
With his dodgy knee and a lot more games next season it would ideal to alternate and rotate him with Cisse

Comment #80Really think Luuk could be big for us! Young player with bags of potential and scoring 32 goals for any club is an achievement…and if worst case scenario happens and he isn’t good for us could be a decent back up or move him on fairly easily?
