Newcastle have opened talks with Ajax for their 23 year-old full back or defensive midfielder, Vernun Anita.
Vernun Anita – keen on move to Newcastle
And the news in the local papers this morning, is that talks are in no way at an advanced stage, and are said to be at the preliminary stage.
Ajax want around £7M for their player, and Anita’s agent has said that Newcastle have gone in with an initial offer of between £5M and £10M.
A deal is not close, according to a senior Newcastle official this morning, but Anita is said to be very keen on the switch to Tyneside, and it seems he would be brought in as a full back, on either side, with Italian youngster Davide Santon also able to play on either side.
And the fact that Vernun is more than a decent defensive midfielder, will make him a valuable addition to the Newcastle ranks.
Ajax could price themselves out of a deal for the 3 times capped Dutch International however, as Newcastle are said to value the player at less than £7M, although there may be some movement on that from the Dutch Champions.
And if Anita’s agent is to be believed, Newcastle have already bid more than £5M for Anita.
And it seems Newcastle are aware of the interest in their Ivorian midfielder Cheick Tiote, and will try to keep him on Tyneside, but again £20M is said to be the figure that Newcastle would be willing to sell Tiote for.
There has been no contact with either the club or his representatives so far this summer, but it seems if a club comes in with £20M for the 29 times capped Ivorian International, then he could be on his way.
Cheick himself has said he does not want to leave Newcastle, and seems very keen to stay on Tyneside.
It seems that Newcastle will be bringing in two new full backs in the summer, as that position appears to be a place where Newcastle can significantly strengthen the side.
Right backs French International Mathieu Debuchy and England U21 International Nathaniel Clyne, as well as Dutch international Erik Pieters, are all being linked with Newcastle this summer.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1All this £20m for Tioté talk is getting silly now.
If you were United/Chelsea and you knew he would be that cheap, you’d have him locked down to a new contract by now surely?!

Hoillet – Not sure if it’s correct but I head before his head is not right, needs sharpening to get his talent focused properly on the pitch, but his head is being turned by his own perceived worth or that of the guy tasked with flogging him foor a nice fat payday.

Comment #8Exactly, not one top club who is linked with Tiote would balk at paying £20million for him thats a bargain for him.. We dont want to sell and we dont have to sell so we havnt set prices on anyone but we know a massive offer we wont refuse but we will refuse daft offers! In sick of all this were signing such and such so such and such is defo leaving! Every player sold has wanted to leave!! FACT.. It is also a FACT that the players we have want to stay except maybe Ba but nothing much has been said on him..
Also we offered £7.2 million for Anita which personally i wouldnt go any higher atall.. i would switch over to FC Twente and offer £18million for: Fer, De Jong & Douglas

Comment #10Times are changing now most teams play attacking and need a solid dm sitting infront of defence which makes their job more important which also increases the price of the better ones and personally i dont actually know of a better player at Tiotes job at the moment

Comment #17If Andy thejudas Caroll is worth 35 million. Surely we shouldn’t accept any bids of less than 120 million for Tiote. . . .

Comment #18@gj89 don’t call him a Judas. Once 35million was accepted he was leaving and that’s that. His fee was needed.

Comment #19Two points. 1/ Why is it that this blog is the only one seeming to be pushing for Cheik Tiote to be sold? 2/ Why is it that players/managers go on about playing in Europe then moan about the number of games they have to play? I remember Aston Villa fans howling with rage at Martin O’Neil when they spent money going to Russia only for him to play a second-string team!

Comment #20We will be given the Same old Tosh as we always get but the Fat Controller has to see if he wants us in The Champions league selling Our Best Players is not the way forward we have to build the squad with 6 new players for the 2012/13 season. We need to be stronger with Better Players – better than Alan Smith- Peter Lovenkrands -Danny Guthrie etc-.. This is Going to Be a Cracking New Season so Lets Kick on Not Hash it up By selling Players and causing trouble like with Carroll Nolan and Enriqui Barton etc We want a cup on Tyneside Not another Blank !!!!!!!!

What are you on about??
Apart from Enrique not one of those players was missed because we signed better ones. The last two years transfer dealings under Ashley’s new strategy have been faultless and the envy of nearly every other Prem club. Thats why there is plenty of transfer talk about the many excellent players we have. If there wasn’t transfer talk involving the big clubs it just tells you our players are sh%te.
Ashley, Pardew and Carr know exactly what they are doing. They have proved that with the squad we have. Any fan who thinks they’ve just built that squad up to sell the cream at a profit is delusional. Ba and Tiote might – and might not – go but apart from them I very much doubt whether there would be any other big transfers out because Ashley is EVERY bit as ambitious as us fans.

Do you ever stop suckling on MA’s breasts? Time will tell if MA is as ambitious as us fans….I’d seriously doubt that but that’s not to say he’s doing a bad job, far from it indeed on the basis of last season. As for players coming in being better than those sold….again time will tell; Ba had a short burst of good games as did Cisse….when they’ve done it consistently across a season then I’ll agree one of them has replaced Carroll, but why wasn’t Cisse brought in to play WITH Carroll? That would be what I’d call ambition! As for Enrique; he’s not been adequately replaced….Barton? Only during the run in when Ben Arfa played on the right was mad dog Joey suitably replaced….and although Cabaye is a much better player than Nolan, we’ve still not replaced those goals from midfield….its still too early to start a MA love in, he could well sell Ba, Tiote and Cabaye tomorrow….time will tell
