Dutch Winger Granted Transfer Request – Magpies Interested?

Juventus winger Eljero Elia is set to leave the Italian club after just one season there.

Eljero Elia – capped 26 time by Holland

Newcastle were first linked with the player in January,  when there was a move to bring him to Tyneside on loan, or at least that’s what the reports said.

The 26 times capped Dutch International has lost his way in Italy, and he now hopes to get his career back on track, after playing just 5 times last season for Juventus, the Italian Champions.

The winger has handed in a transfer request, which has immediately granted by the club, and he had this to say to Eredivisie Live today:

“I want to play football again and have fun again.” “My agent will arrange it. He will talk to me if there are any developments.”  “They have already told me I will be able to move to another club.”

Arsenal were interested in the player before he signed on at Juventus, and this lad may interest Newcastle, who are always interested in a  player who wants to prove himself.

He cost Juventus €9M (around £7.3M) when he signed for them last August 31st, the last day of the summer transfer window, and that seems a lot of money for Newcastle to pay, although he will come cheaper this summer.

Elia started his career in Holland at ADO Den Haag, before moving to FC Twente in 2007, where he really came into prominence, and then he moved to Hamburg in 2009 for around £6.5M.

Elia was named Dutch Football Talent of the Year in 2009, and he played 59 times for Den Haag with 6 goals and 3 assists and was at Twente for two seasons,  where he played 73 times with 15 goals and 6 assists.

Elia spent two seasons at Hamburg before joining Juventus last summer, in what turned out to be have been a disastrous move for him, and he played for Hamburg 63 times with 8 goals and 11 assists.

He could be potentially a good signing for Newcastle.

What do you think?

SO he was at Den Haag where we signed Krul from and at Twente where we signed Tiote from. Wouldnt be surprised if Carr has seen this lad play before (at Twente) and Krul may know him if they were at Den Haag at same time

    How old is Elia?

Reckon Anita is for CDM personally, where jonas played at the end of the season… then he can be cover for LB…

Think we will sign another FB, especially if simpson goes. Then a CB, quite tall one. Definately a striker and then possibly another winger, maybe hoilett or barnetta, saying that next season we have jonas hba marveaux oba for the wings, still think we could do with another one

Elia would be a great signing. Very pacey and is good on the ball. He didn’t fit Contes way of playing so he got few opportunities. He fits perfect in a 4-3-3 on one of the wings. He and ben arfa would scare the shit out of most fullbacks in PL 😉

He was born in Feb 1987 which makes him 25 years old. I dont see us going for another winger at this stage but you never know. Personally i would like to see our defense bolstered instead of our wings. Ie. 2 x CB 1 x RB 1 x LB and another CF then worry about the wings if needed after that.

Yes please. Such a good player, he went to Juve because he thought he would get the chances, and he didn’t. I would gladly pay £7-8m for a winger of this quality.

Ox will burn Debuchy for pace all day long. Apart from Cabaye and the front 3 France aren’t great and are definitively beatable.
