Newcastle Demand Answer From Demba Ba On Future Plans

11:00 am, Monday, June 11th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 84 Comments

Newcastle United will want to know exactly what Demba Ba’s future plans are – so they can go ahead with their own plans for the summer transfer window.

Demba Ba - Magpies need to understand his plans

The Senegal international has yet to tell Newcastle whether he wants to take up the release clause on his contract –  if clubs like Tottenham come a calling this summer.

Ba’s contract includes a £7M release clause,  which can be activated from June 1st until July 31st – but after that time he will only be available at the market price - which is much higher than £7M.

Chelsea,  in addition to Tottenham, are said to be interested in the player, and maybe if  Roberto de Mateo is appointed the new Chelsea manager this week, the Pensioners could move for the 27 year-old top striker.

Certainly Newcastle need to hear from Ba on his future plans before the lads return to pre-season training, which is scheduled for Thursday, July 5th.

Newcastle are keen to get the matter settled one way or the other, and hardly want to repeat the Jose Enrique saga of last year, when Jose toured America and played in the pre-season games, but then left Newcastle for Liverpool on 11th August.

The two strikers Newcastle are said to be interested in are 21 year-old Luuk de Jong, the FC Twente striker, and 25 year-old Montpellier’s French International Olivier Giroud, although Olivier could be a little on the expensive side.

Even if Demba Ba elects to stay on Tyneside, we still expect Newcastle to bring in one new striker, with the likelihood being it’s the younger de Jong.

Leon Best is expected to leave Newcastle in the summer, with the 25 year-old being linked with Scottish Champions Celtic, who would also like to sign Newcastle’s 24 year-old goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

  • 7 Nick 69 // Jun 11, 2012 at 11:12 AM

they can demand all they want, its there fault that stupid clause is in there in the first place otherwise there wouldnt be any of this carry on, unless someone came in with a ridiculous offer and they decided to cash in. There’s no one to blame for this situation but the man who put that clause in there

Hope to god we have him till august at least, of he goes on the release clause the club only get between £2-3m which is basically what we paid for gis signing on fee last year. Ay least if he left in august wed get

  • 11 No Plain Saylor // Jun 11, 2012 at 11:19 AM

    * £13m plus, which is fair at least. But if he leavea that’s 4 clubs in 4 years he’d be a mercinary

Let him go and replace him with NON-AFRICAN striker.

    Get rid.

He’s had his career purple patch with us anyway, he’ll never go on a scoring streak like that again.

  • 19 Mark29Hungary // Jun 11, 2012 at 11:57 AM

I think Ba, Cissé and HBA should stay. They are our first forwards.

But in the squad we need 1-2 qualitative substitutes + Shola… :)

Löven is out now. Sell Best, and Bring Luuk De Jong and Jordan Rhodes!!!

  • 20 numba9 // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:02 PM

not keen on de jong and if we got 7 for ba de jong would cost that much. id rather rodelega or leonardo ulloa from almeria 28 goals and a consistant big striker, they didnt go up so would lose him anyway id think. lets pinch him carr?

  • 21 ToonAndy // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:08 PM

Ba can leave if he wants… He lost his confidence towards the last half of the season and couldn’t even control the ball properly at the end… Chelsea can have him and we can bring in a better player in the shape of Luuk de Jong… Perfect for Ashley as he’ll be worth triple of what he is now in 3-4 years and a few good years in the premier league…

    —————————KRUL————————–

    DEBUCHY–VERTOGHAN-COLLO–SANTON

    TIOTE. CABAYE

    BEN ARFA. DZSUDZSAK

    DE JONG

    CISSE

Name 4 better teams than that in the premier league??

  • 22 Rotonda heights // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:09 PM

rodallega is nearly 29 and very inconsistent, not to mention slow, plus we don’t need another big striker.

I think we should give Ba an ultimatum, lose the clause or go

  • 23 ToonAndy // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:11 PM

Numba9…. Have you even seen de Jong play?… And if the answer is yes… What aren’t you keen on??

  • 24 papiss_on_your_parade // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:13 PM

No matter what happens, we need 2 additional strikers. Cisse and ba got to ACON, then who are we left with? Shola who can’t play a whole game? We won’t even have loven or besty as backup. And what if ba or cisse get injured? Also think we need 2 centre backs to battle out a 1st team spot with collo, we all know how injury prone saylor is. Then one right back as well.

Sounds like a tall order I know, what does everyone think? Surely these are the minimum additions we need, especially with the games we’ll be playing in the euros as well next season.

  • 25 numba9 // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:17 PM

would be a good squad lad no doubt but i think the money they would want doesnt warrant it, as carr has done in the past look elswhere and get 2 for the price of one, its the way club is now!

  • 26 G // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:18 PM

I can’t believe that I am reading this, people are happy to let him leave? For what it’s worth I will be delighted if he is still our player come Aug, and if we are going to sign another striker to replace Best, then Luke De Jong is the one I would have.

  • 27 JAMSHA // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:18 PM

    Marcos Rojo

doesnt he play in the australian league? well he is a pacey winger /striker i guess had him on fifa 12 , very fast :-)

  • 28 numba9 // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:19 PM

anyone rate that mandzukic last night for croatia? big strong with an engine and goals i guess his price would have gone up 3fold tho?

  • 29 ToonAndy // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:20 PM

Papiss – I agree… I think if there was ever a time that Ashley would be forced into buying more money’s worth of players it will be now… We have such a small squad and with the likes of European football… Cup matches, league mactches, injuries… It would be suicide not to bring in a load of fresh faces…

I reckon we need… 2 cbs (1 first teamer, one on the edges) a right back, defensive mid cover with smith and Guthrie gone, an attacking mid, a left forward and 2 strikers…

That’s 8 players and that’s the very least we need in my opinion… We’ll probably lose 8 in this window anyway so our squad won’t even be increased in size, only quality

  • 30 martoon // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:24 PM

Beattie @2 I must be missing something because I’m not understanding the significance of ‘For Skyrim’ that you keep posting.

  • 31 ~Perchinho the Pheonix~ // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:27 PM

@Toonandy We won’t be getting Vertonghen.

  • 32 bills-son // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:28 PM

Any club that signs Ba will be taking an uninsurable c£25M gamble with his £7M fee, signing on fee, agents fees and a minimum 3 year contract at £4M a year.

Managers like Redknapp who don’t use their own money on the gamble might be interested – club owners who have to shell out and take the gamble will have a different view + Ba didn’t score for 12+ games at the end of the season.

My view – and I may be wrong – is that no club will take the gamble and Ba will stay.

  • 33 graham cwarr // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:30 PM

    Jamsha that’s Marco rojas.
My mate goes on and on about him having a big future. He is very pacey and quite skilled. Reminds me of bale crossed with messi but nowhere near as good as either.
He’s small and quick but doesn’t have the close control of little lionel. He is good at bombing down the wing and can cut in but doesn’t have a shot like bale. All bearing in mind this is in the a-league.
Hold on. This guy isn’t even who we’re linked with…….

  • 34 ~Perchinho the Pheonix~ // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:32 PM

    @Martoon,

Didn’t you hear, we have been strongly linked with Dovahklin.

  • 35 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:33 PM

I think we should get Jesus Navas the lad is supreme a winger of real quality and out and out speed… in case something happens to HBA…. lad can play CAM wing CF

Ba wise if he wants to leave so what….I am afraid de Jong wont come nor will Girourd he is off to Arsenal thats our problem getting them good but not too famous but since the big boys are fishing in our pond its a problem

  • 36 ~Perchinho the Pheonix~ // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:33 PM

Btw, am I the only one happy that Dogface might be leaving Spur’s?

  • 37 Taking the Papiss // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:34 PM

I don’t think we actually need that many at all ToonAndy because many of those positions will be covered by youth team stepping up, so…defensive midfield- Abeid, attaching midfield- Vuckic, left midfield we certainly don’t need anyone- marveaux, Jonas, ferguson, amalfitano.

I agree on cb and st, although not with numbers- if we buy two new Cbs in addition to williamson, colo and Taylor we will hve 5 for two places, not going to happen when we have bigger worries. So 1 cb competing for first team is enough. In terms of strikers I do agree we need two- one should and looks like it will be de Jong. The other is less important and more likely to be someone out of contract- I would personally have kept lovenkrands. Finally, rb is needed is Simpson goes- looks like they are keen on Anita so hopefully him and debuchy will be 1st choice and versatile backup if necessary. I think then 1cb, de Jong, Anita and debuchy will be enough (another striker but will only happen if ba goes. That being said will probably cost 28m so can see ba and tiote leaving to fund it.

  • 38 lewytoon // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:35 PM

seems like giroud is off to arsenal, thats a shame. they are looking good for next season especially with RVP, Podolski and Giroud, we won’t be challenging them, theyre flying in this winow.

i wouldn’t be fussed if ba left, this is because he is easily replaceable and if he doesn’t want to be here then i dont want him. however if he does stay i’ll be quite pleased as he is obviously a good striker.

i think we will sign another striker whether or not ba leaves. this is because lovenkrands has left, best is being sold and ranger is surplus to requirements. this means we are 3 strikers down and when cisse and ba go to the ACON in january we will be left with only shola. this makes me think we will sign another striker definitely.

  • 39 graham cwarr // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:35 PM

  • 42 JDdubai // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:39 PM

Sorry Ed but you cant run with a headline like that with no actual eveidence of anything in the article….”Newcastle DEMAND to know…….”, says who?

It should say “I think Newcastle should demand…….”.

I know its a blog but you need some kind of actual proof of something to put in it if it looks like ur quoting the club.

  • 43 numba9 // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:42 PM

sell ba to harry and watch spuds crumble, in mean time buy 2 good strikers and 2 defenders and a midfielder and we shall have more of the same next season

  • 44 graham cwarr // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:42 PM

Alternatively harry could stay and be given loads to spend and buy 8 players with 2 coming good after which he is hailed as a messiah.
Or he could leave and spurs get an actual manager who takes them to 3rd in the league or higher

  • 47 numba9 // Jun 11, 2012 at 12:52 PM

id like to get clyne on board quickly let him settle down, he would cost less than debuchy, get anita in aswell as left back then have a choice of where we play santon either side, another cb a midfielder like mandzukic would complement the class we have and 2 or 3 strikers because best will go to norwich ba possibly gone also

Reckon demba will stay he just needs to sack his advisors!! Prob with ba is you never know if the person who must be leaking all these clauses in his contract are genuine bit like that muppet who pretended to be his agent saying he was in contact with manure in jan!

Also numba 9 not impressed with de jong (32 goals) but would sign rodellaga ( did he even score this season) not really sure on your logic there mate christ we’d be better off with sick note owen than rodellaga

  • 58 numba9 // Jun 11, 2012 at 2:09 PM

de jong dutch league 32 is not worth half in england who remembers the lad the smoggies bought? scored more than 32 in holland and couldnt do it in england, let alone our very own jon dahl tommason even suarez has found it hard and he is class. i just think they would ask alot for de jong and we wouldnt pay it so its a case of having to look elsewhere for value as has been the case

Still a lot more than rodallega

  • 61 numba9 // Jun 11, 2012 at 2:26 PM

rodelega has done it in the prem, last season was cursed with injuries. i just think that if a club is buying players and letting them go within 18mnths as it seems the norm theses days, age isnt a massive problem in fact an asset, and if clear of injury he would hit form alongside cisse, im not saying de jong is bad, but the cash will be if he does a demba ba

Why does every team formation people put up here exclude Jonas ? He was brilliant last year, work-rate, skill assists and the odd goal. If we can sign someone who can consign him to the bench then I’d be seriously impressed, but he’ll start next season. For sure.

  • 66 graham cwarr // Jun 11, 2012 at 2:47 PM

@numba9 COULD hit form alongside cisse.
And by “do a ba” do you mean get a low buyout clause? Because de jong to my knowledge does not have a time bomb for a knee and is younger so i doubt we’d agree to a low buyout clause. Especially not as we’d be saying for him so that is a totally invalid point.

ba was moved out of position and any goal that he would normally have grabbed was put infront of cisse’s feet , ba was being greedy at times towards the end searching for that goal , but his contribution to the team was great.
great player id like to keep hold of and play alongside pappis rather than out on the flank
