Newcastle To Play Olympiakos After South Africa Vodacom Challenge

10:34 am, Monday, June 11th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 9 Comments

Newcastle will play Greek champions Olympiakos in the Algarve Tournament on July 27nd.

That’s according to the Greek side themselves, and it also appears that Newcastle will be playing in South Africa too, which will be big news for our South African readers.

Olympiakas will play Newcastle in the Algarve Tournament on July 27th , and the news is that Portuguese club FC Porto will also take part, and that news is in today’s Evening Chronicle.

And it seems that Newcastle will play Sporting Lisbon earlier in that same week in the Jose Alvalade Stadium, and these games will come after Newcastle’s participation in South Africa earlier in July.

There have been rumors that Newcastle will play in the Vodacom Challenge in South Africa in July, which is the top pre-season tournament in Africa, and is hosted by the Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

But none of this is official yet, with Newcastle only announcing one pre-season game so far – Cardiff City away on August 11th at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Newcastle are yet to confirm they will take part in the Vodacom  Challenge or games against Sporting Lisbon and Olympiakos, but the rumors are rife.

Lats year Newcastle announced their summer plans to tour America as early as April, but this year the plans were put on hold, until Newcastle knew what European  play-off games they would need to play in July or August.

Maybe we’ll get an announcement this week from Newcastle, on their overall summer plans.

Comments welcome.

The lads will love it. Little bit of golf, some footy and good weather.

I think it’s better than last years tour. I was at the Orlando game and the guys looked jaded. For me you should play in 1 location rather than flying around every day.

Oh well, it looks good that Newcastle are looking to play some good teams in the pre- season. Cardiff won’t just roll over, and Olympiakos and FC Porto are good teams, hopefully we’ll have all our signings by then.
