Newcastle Interested In Top Kenyan International

Newcastle are monitoring the situation of Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to the Newcastle Journal.

Victor Wanyama – turns 21 on June 25th

We were linked with this player as far back as May of last year, according to our records, and the 20 year-old 6’2″ defensive midfielder or center-back could strengthen Newcastle’s squad for their European campaign next season.

And the 18 times capped Kenyan says he wants to move to the Premier League from Scotland after one season up there,  which is hardly surprising.

The player has been watched by Graham Carr and his staff many times over the last season, and he could be a possible replacement for Chieck Tiote if he leaves the club this summer, but of course Newcastle are also after a top center-back this summer.

But there is likely to be a lot of interest in this player from other top clubs, which is hardly surprising,  and Liverpool are just one club who are interested in the player who joined Celtic last summer from Belgium club Beerschot AC for £900K.

But Wanyama will probably cost too much, with Celtic said to want as much as £14M for the youngster, and Newcastle would never pay that much for a 20 year-old.

Apparently Newcastle were at many of Celtic’s games  last season, and maybe we were also looking at their young striker Gary Hooper, but only recently Celtic turned down a £7M bid from Southampton for the English striker, and he’s not worth that much.

Other clubs said to be watching the Kenyan defender are Swansea, QPR, Stoke City and Everton, and we’ve been after this player for at least a year, and before he moved to Celtic last summer.

The 20 year-old played for Kenya in their 1-0 loss to Namibia last Friday, in the World Cup qualifying games, and we’d be surprised if Newcastle can tie up the Kenyan for anywhere close to the £5M the Tyneside club rate him at – but you never know.

And surely Newcastle will not want to sign too many African players these days, especially with their African Cup of Nations taking place every couple of years, and right in the middle of the Premier League season in England.

Wanyama played 44 times for Celtic last season and scored four goals, and maybe we can do a deal and include Leon Best and Fraser Forster in the deal – because those are two players Celtic want for next season.

Maybe Best and Forster and £2M could seal a deal for the top youngster?

What do you think?

If it is to replace Tiote, then go for it, but if it is to add, then dont bother.
I wouldn’t worry about a Kenyan being away for a long time at ACON anyway… They don’t really do well normally.

Did everyone see how effective Cabaye was in that forward position yesterday?

If it wasn’t for Benzemas lack of movement and Nasri/Riberys greed cabs wouldve destroyed us.

That ball over the top that Benzema failed to run for was perfection.

We need 2 attacking full backs and 2 DM to break up play if we are caught to high up the pitch.

As far as i am concerned NUFC would only be interested in paying big moves for fullbacks. This wanyama guy is not needed.

Exactly Davy if we want two fullbacks like santon and for cabaye to be real playmaker then we’ll need 2 cdms. Would love to play that way

Why sign Anita for £8m when we can get Diame for free and then use the £8m to sign Marvin Martin.

Coloccini and Ba’s on around 60k per week. I can’t see wages being the problem. He might only want 30k anyway. He’s been strongly linked with Lille, but we are a bigger club as Cabaye has proved it by signing for us.

Yeah, Diame’s a senegalese international and will do well for us. As long as we make around 5 key signings I’ll be happy.

We need players in these positions:

    CB
    LB
    DM
    AM
    CF

    Plus squads players.

Funnily enough I didnt think Cabaye was all that great yesterday, but didnt see the full game. he seemed to be giving away a few free kicks in his usual way, but France essentially played without a striker pushed up, like a 4-6 formation, and this didnt help him to make the killer pass. It was wonderful to read about Newcastle “top french contingent” in the papers etc!! 🙂

I agree that Wanyama would be a good buy…but then part of me thinks (if kenya were to qualify) then that would be the front two and two from the midfield we would lose for the ACON….would prefer Anita or a European player….but everyone has forgotten what an Iimproved player Perch is in the DM role….So although I think he would be good would he really be 1st choice immediately or would he have to wait his turn?

What about Sone Aluko from Rangers?

GREAT player to have as another option that can be versatile along that front line and we could get him really cheaply too?

    Is monstermag on crack?

Cabaye was one of thier stand out performers. Him and Nasri ran the gam for them. Cabaye pretty much bossed the midfield. Parker was none existant because of him.

Cabaye is the player Alex Ferguson wished carrick was. He ran that midfield l. He put in some naughty challenges but he always does. He just winks at the referree and the ref melts

Pieceo, I think Nasri was their main player, and Ribery. Debuchy looked like a very decent full back. Cabaye lost possession more than most and conceded more fouls. But I could be talking out my bottom as didnt see it all and was in pub which doesnt help. A few others watching were of similar opinion, although he made a million passes. As I said, if France has been willing to put a striker right on england centre halves instead of flitting around so much, it would have helped cabaye to make more killer passes.

We need a top defensive midfielder that isn’t african that can play in a 3 man mid with tiote and Cab next season or as cover for Tiote at ACON. Anita is the one I think.

Münster Mag – I love a Parker vs Tiote in a pirrawet off in the middle of the park
