  gonufc – Samara is not all that bat he’s quite decent really. The funniest thing on TV was seeing Heskey play for England a while back and seeing Jose Enrique on goal against u when we thrashed Liverfool.

  Cabaye did well v England and Ben Arfa needs more time on the pitch to be explosive.

  On topic this tournament will be good for us but we should try and enter the African Tournament also. Apart fro giving our young squad more experience it will boost our global reputation.

  quite amazing how many people are getting all excited thinking Cabaye is about to break anew signing on Twitter. Since when did Mike Ashley and Co use Cabaye’s Twitter page to announce our transfer business, not gonna happen!! He is probably in the dark about signings just as much as any of us, highly doubt Ashley is gonna be ringing him at the Euros everyday to tell him how deals are progressing.

  I rarely agree with Bill-son on his obsession with the Fat Controller (previous thread) but he has got something when he says MA doesn’t need to sell.
  We do need to have a bit more confidence in his commitment to the club as over the years he is slowly rebuilding us into a well run unit – despite the howlers he made early on and the fact that a quality centre half in the Jan window might well have got us a better finishing place – as Beattie the sage has said.
  We might not trust him but we have to acknowledge his achievements even grudgingly…

  I’d love to see even three of the names being bounced around on here sign for us, but the overpriced will definitely not arrive at SJP.

  The guys we already have are bubbling with confidence, clearly rate their manager and the backroom staff and will pass that on to their mates.

  Did Cabaye not play a crucial role in Hazard’s move to Chelsea, he’s the ‘leader’ of the Lille players from last year and can influence them a lot; a month with Debuchy should surely be enough for Cabaye to crack him and make him join the Toon (if he has not already).

  Then why Euro’s are over he arrives for a medical then signs the pre agreed deal.

  Loans are not ideal if you can get a player on a permanent deal.

  But in january we missed out on a centre back which could have cost is had an injury come up.

  If we don’t get the players we want we wont pay a fee for somebody just to get a body in…this is where I think we could use the loan system…if we can get a player in for a small fee and paying say 30/40% wages like spurs did with adebeyor it would help.

  I agree about mariappa….if we could have had him for 1 million he would have been worth it…but when they asked for 3/4 the club just walked away and had nothing to do with it….1 million is ok..3/4 could be half the money we spend on a top top centre back.

  But I think a loan for somebody like lukaku would be worth a go…chelsea will want to send him out so might get him for almost nothing.

  Loan are just short term fixes, which doesn’t suit our style really

  But at the same time spurs used it well….they got a top striker (adebeyor) and if they made the champs league they get a lot of money but if they didnt make it they are aren’t stuck with a player on huge wages and a large initial outlay.

  I think it is relatively risk free and can help push the club a place or two up the league…and if not, he goes back to his parent club and we havent wasted too much.

  we are helping a chelsea player but also helping ourselves.

  Say he gets 10 goals, wins us some important points while cisse and ba are away and those points get us champions league.

  It may help chelsea when he goes back, but we then have much more money to spend on a permanent striker the following season.

  I just think it is a low risk option if not looking to spend much money, can gamble getting into the champions league and if not we dont have players on huge wages.

  Debuchy did say that he’s concentrating on the Euros & doesn’t want to think about club football at the minute but come on this doesn’t mean a deal cannot be done as let’s be honest if he was in talks with us or whoever he’s not going to start blurting out about it. He’d have told his agent what he wants & they’ll be able to get prelimary talks/terms agreed and then a medical can take place overseen by the French medical staff in the French Euro Camp. The deal for all we know could be in the bag but will not be officially announced till the French Euro campaign ends at whatever stage they get to!

  U do have a point, but one cannot predict that a player we loan will score so and so many goals, so many balls off the line or so many assists.
  The player may even flop completely, then it would surely be a waste.
  But i agree, rather than actually buy Mariappa, we could have gone for a loan on someone else.
  But the fact that we opted not to loan despite not getting Mariappa, indicates that loans at this club surely wont happen, unless under very special circumstances.

  yeh i don’t think the club will entertain a loan for player…just a personal opinion that I think they work.

  And we obviously can’t guarantee how well a player will do but the same is said of transfers….with good scouting we can identify good loan targets the same way we do with transfers.

  That was the first game I have seen him in and defensively I didn’t think he was amazing.

  But if you look at spurs, assou-ekotto and walker are not the best defenders but as they have pace and attack well it forces opposition wingers and full backs to drop back….

  Mondial sport have great eye for talent. Almost all of their players could become potential starters of Toon. Hopefully, we can do couple of affairs with them this summer.
