Newcastle Told To Double Their Offer For Dutch Midfielder

News today that Ajax are asking £8M for their full-back/midfielder Vernun Anita.

Vernun Anita – valued at £8M by Ajax

Newcastle lodged a bid for the player over the weekend, according to his agent, and the initial bid was somewhere between £5 and £10M, but it seems the asking price is now £8M.

Newcastle’s offer seems to have fallen short, but Newcastle are keen on the 23 year-old,  who can play in either full back position and played defensive midfield for Ajax all last season.

And the news today is that Newcastle may actually have bid only £4M for the player,  so they will need to double their offer, and so much for what an agent says about what’s going on.

Manager Ronald De Boer took over Ajax last summer, and took them to a Dutch Championship,  and he is said to rate his player highly, and will only let him go for £8M, which could put Newcastle off, and they could look elsewhere.

Aston Villa are also reported to be interested in the player, but only because former Norwich boss Paul Lambert was initially interested,  and he has now gone to manage the Midlands club, so we think it’s just a supposition that Villa are interested.

Norwich were the other club initially said to be interested in the player  by Anita’s agent, as well as Newcastle.

Newcastle may go in with an improved offer for the player, but don’t bet on it, as the Tyneside club will hardly go too much above their own valuation of a player these days.

But that would be the next step for Newcastle, although they may simply give up on Vernun, and look elsewhere for a better deal.

Anita is said to be very keen to join the Magpies, but who wouldn’t be,  after Newcastle had such a great season and look to be building a very good side for the future.

What do you think?

    That is bull.
Agent said we had bid £5-10 mill for him, written.
Now someone else says “it’s been reported that we bid £4 mill”.
Completely pulled out of your arse bull.

i think we will offer 6 or 6.5 “take it or leave it” and hope that this would even more unsetles the player and he will push hard make the transfer happen. 🙂 Maybe ask for transfer and so on..

Could be time to walk away from this one. As great as it would be to have Debuchy and Anita, we still have Tavernier and Ferguson looking to break through.

    @Rotonda,
    We need experience!

Apparently Inter have put an offer of €8-10m in for Debuchy… Why have Pards and co. not sealed the deal yet?

First Rule of Newcastle transfer business: If any agent is leaking any info what so ever the deal is off. Newcastle will not sign Anita and it might just be another smokescreen 🙂

What has to be remembered is that Ashley pays 90%-100% of a transfer fee up front unlike other clubs who spread payments over 3-4 years. So Ajax can bank £4M now or get £2M a year for 4 years. With the uncertainty over the Euro a spread fee could lose 10%-15% of its value over 4 years. If we really want Anita I reckon £5-£5.5M upfront will clinch it.

The big advantage of Anita is his versatility. With him and Perch we have double cover for every back four and CM position. It makes sense to me to sign Anita.

jesperfuglsang – Ben Arfa, Cabaye and Ba are three players we signed after transfer speculation so I don’t think Anita will be off just because it’s being talked about.

FB, CB, LW/ST are surely the priority:
Most expensive prices: Debuchy £8m; Douglas £5m; de Jong £7m.
That comes to £19m; if the money we get for Simmo, Forster and Best is reinvested (approx £7m) we’d have £8m to spend on a DM/AM

You might be right to some extend, but the HBA and Ba saga are a special case since HBA also went awall and Ba was a free transfer.

Cabaye was a wrap as it broke in the media. I dont in any of these cases their agents talked about their transfers ad they were ongoing.

Anyone correct me if i am wrong. I cannot remember that far back 🙂
