Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be readying a £10M bid for Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul.
Tim Krul – going nowhere for £10M
It’s not a secret that Tottenham are keen on the Dutch International goalkeeper, who has been at Newcastle since 2005, and he joined the Tyneside club when he was just 17.
The 24 year-old played every game for Newcastle in the Premier League last season, and was one of the best Premier League goalkeepers, in his first full season as the Newcastle number one.
But there is no way Newcastle will sell Tim for just £10M, and his selling price will be much higher than that, and the question will be whether Spurs will be willing to bid silly money to get the Newcastle goalkeeper.
Tim has always said his two ambitions in football are to become the Newcastle number one, and then become the Dutch number one goalkeeper, and last season he achieved his first objective.
And if he keeps improving like he did last season, he should soon be the Dutch number one goalkeeper too.
And there’s a problem – because Tim would hardly be willing to become the back-up to Brad Freidel at Spurs for any length of time, given Tim is already one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
Tim served his time behind both Shay Given and Steve Harper on Tyneside, before emerging as the clear number one goalkeeper last season, and it would be a step back to become a back-up goalkeeper again.
Newcastle could let Tim go, but the price would be closer to £15M or even £20M, but he would be a big loss if Newcastle decide to sell their goalkeeper, who has often said he only wants to play for Newcastle United.
And with the long-term manager at Spurs still uncertain, we wonder how Tottenham can bring in any players to the club, until they offer Harry Redknapp a new deal at the club, or bring in another manager.
What do you think?
