There’s some very good news in the Newcastle Journal today.
Mathieu Debuchy waits for press conference yesterday in Donetsk
Is he also waiting to sign for Newcastle?
And it’s about French right-back Mathieu Debuchy, who had a good game against England on Monday night, and looked a very accomplished player.
The Journal is suggesting Debuchy is very keen to join Newcastle, and the Tyneside club have already opened negotiations for the right back, and they want to double the Frenchman’s wages to get him to Tyneside.
Mathieu seems an overwhelming favorite with our readers, and of course if he’s anything like his pal, Yohan Cabaye, he will be a huge hit at Newcastle.
We have to hope that Yohan is fully involved in persuading Debuchy to join him at Newcastle, although the news over the last couple of months is that Mathieu has always been keen to join Yohan at Newcastle.
And the Journal are reporting that news again today, that he has told Cabaye more than once, that he is very keen to join Newcastle United.
And Newcastle’s performance last season in finishing 5th top of the Premier League and above current European Champions Chelsea, and above five times European Champions Liverpool, can only help the Tyneside club in their quest for Debuchy.
Newcastle believe they would have already had the deal signed, sealed and delivered, if Bacary Sagna hadn’t broken his leg and Debuchy was thrust into prominence in France’s right-back spot.
Newcastle have opened negotiations for the player, but they cannot agree a fee with Lille, and we think that could be the problem, with Newcastle unwilling to match the £8M valuation that Lille have put on their long serving right-back..
And news that Inter Milan have become very interested in signing the Frenchman, news that has not been welcomed by Newcastle.
There are some reports in France that claim there is a release fee in Debuchy’s contract but that hardly seems the case, otherwise Newcastle would have done the deal by now, and not be negotiating a fee with Lille.
Newcastle will not conclude any deals until the end of the Euro 2012 Championships on July 1st, and that nicely coincides with what Mathieu Debuchy said yesterday – that he will make no decisions on his future until after the tournament.
We have to hope that Newcastle can agree a fee with Lille for the player, and maybe they could agree some money down, and then extra payments depending on how many times Debuchy plays in the Newcastle first team.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Giroud is an outstanding striker and anyone saying they don’t want him are clearly bitter that Arsenal look to have got him however didn’t think we would ever be in for him as he is out of our price
range. As for Simpson being messed about how is being offered 25k for a player of very limited ability being messed about he should be snatching the boards hand off. The plan would more than likely have been to upgrade even if he did sign so he won’t be a garunteed starter anymore.

Comment #4Wouldnt say hes ‘outstanding’ like.. Cisse is outstanding and Giroud doesnt come close to him.. If you look at all my comments over the last 6 month you will notice that ive said i want De Jong over any striker weve been linked with so im not bitter atall.! At 12million he is way over priced

I agree with Your point of view regarding simpson from NUFC or NUFC’s supporters point of view.
But,
Knowing his limited abilities if simpson thinks he can get a better deal i can understand his stance.

Comment #6Did cabaye ever tweet? Was it for a competition on his web site to win a night with him?

Comment #7This one seems a little too expensive for us. Maybe we are losening the purse strings a little now that Smith and a few others are off the books.
I’m still not holding my breath though, would be a big suprise to me if this deal goes through.

I’m really tempted to say the Debuchy transfer is close – Cabaye hasn’t tweeted YET. The fact we’re still waiting on the first day of the French transfer window is surely not a coincidence.
If Debuchy has his medical today, then he’ll have sufficient time to recover before Friday’s game.

Comment #12I think the only think that will scupper this deal is the transfer fee. As ive stated before, if we can bring in a handful of players ready for the first team in certain areas we will be alot stronger next year. For me ive had a list and ill stick to it. Debuchy, M’biwa, Marten and either Son Meung or De Jong. With a few young players to bolster the squad for an early european campain we would be ready with these additions.
Realistically however i think business will be tough this summer. Think it might be a case of losing someone big in order to be able to compete. I think of that list i can only really see debuchy signing at present.. But nothing wrong with hoping

Comment #13Whoever comes in for him, we have th advantage of having his best mate! I hope we can get in debuchy £7m, kjaer 6m, afelley / elia 5m, and luuk de jong 7m. Feq development players and we’d be very strong!!

Comment #14i was very impressed by the lad on monday night, decent defender and great going forward. i think that with cabaye there he will settle fairly quickly and he will be a far better asset than danny simpson ever has/will be for newcastle.

Cabaye have tweeted, and if you can guess the outcome of France – Ukraine he will not trade shirts with Shevchenko or Voronin.

Comment #16I think he genuinely wants to join Cabaye here at Newcastle but if he continues to impress in the Euros he will cost more than 8M and we won’t sign him unfortunately.

Carr have said that we first find the players then contact their agents. Looking at our current players this seem to be true since no one seem to share same agent.

His performance will not effect his transfer fee since he has a buyout clause. But his wage can be the sticking point.

Comment #20Was very impressed with Debuchy on Monday night….looking at his performance both in defence and joining the attack against some of the Premier league’s finest who he’d face week in and week out….I’d pull out the stops to bring this guy to Newcastle….6m/7m? I’ll keep my fingers crossed….would we ever have had 2 more capable and exciting full backs in the same team?…..Santon and Dubuchy together….very tidy

Comment #21Sazzer – opinion seems to be divided as to whether or not there is a buyout clause.
“Reading between the lines” I suspect not.
Even then, nothing to stop another club offering more, which would obviously be preferred by his club.
OR – even more likely – another club could offer higher wages.
A little bit higher and Debuchy would probably still choose us.
But – a lot higher?
Who knows. Time will tell.

Comment #24Ppl r being greedy all we need is debuchy, de Jong, and a center back plus some development players and we should be fine, we already signed afamiliato to help back up our midfield and marveuox is like a new signing anyway.
Other than that lets wait and c who of our top players leave and replace them,,, Danny is not a top player btw

Comment #25Im hoping that this news is true! I concur with mkhalaf here, we just need a RB/LB (depending where we want Santon, a CB (most important in my opinion) and a striker. The rest should be developmental squad players like Gael Bigirimana. Brahimi as a bonus would be nice though.
