Newcastle Again Linked With Top Venezuelan Striker

Newcastle are being linked Malaga striker Jose Salomon Rondon.

Jose Salomon Rondon – 22 year-old has 27 goals at Malaga

And this is the not the first time Newcastle have been linked with this player, as there was news back in April and May of last year, that Newcastle were watching the striker – now aged 22.

There are certainly doubts surrounding Demba Ba at Newcastle, and the Magpies are expected to bring in another young striker this summer, even if Demba  Ba stays at the club.

Demba Ba is now 27, his Senegal striker team-mate Papiss Cisse is 26, and local lad Shola  Ameobi is 30, so there is room for a good young striker to come into the club this summer, with Dutch striker Luuk de Jong  being heavily linked with Newcastle.

Jose Salomon Rondon was born in Caracus in Venezuala back in 1989,  and he has played 24 times for his country with 8 goals, and the news is that Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested in the player.

The striker joined Malaga from Las Palmas in July of 2010,  for a reported fee of €3.5M, which is around £2.8M, and he has since scored  27 goals in 72 appearances for Malaga over the last couple of seasons.

The 6’1″ striker started his career at Aragua FC in the Venezuelan first division, and made his debut at just 17 against Carabobo FC, back  in October of 2006.

And Malga had a very good season last term, finishing in 4th place in La Liga, with 58 points from their 38 games, and made the qualifying round of the European Champions League.

But if the news that Malaga want big money for their youngster is true – as much as £20M is being quoted by some accounts – then forget it, because there’s no way Newcastle would pay that much for an unproven 22 year-old.

Maybe Newcastle need to move for the next player on Graham’s Carr’s list of top young strikers, if that is true.

What do you think?

This guys agent or Malaga fans or whatever have been linking him with clubs all over place. Unless he has a buyout clause around 6 -10 m £ I can’t see us going for him.

20 mil is somewhat steep for a little better than a 1 in 3 striker

If Harry goes… Will they still want Jan Vertoghan?… And would Jan Vertoghan want to go there!? Could be good for Newcastle on that front

I got him on FM12 for £22m. He scored 48 goals in his first season winning us the league, FA Cup and Champions League. I’ll take that as an omen 😉

    Repost from the last article:

I think every change of manager is costly for a club. Every manager has his own vision, rules, methods. Some players like them and thrive under a particular manager, some don’t.

Look at the conflict between AVB and Chelsea’s old guard. Has he not been fired, they would have to sell some of their players because of him. Of course Chelsea can afford it…

But remember Spurs before Harry? The expensive flops of Juande Ramos? Spurs do not have the attracting power of a top club yet and Harry’s politics left them with only about dozen class players (not much more than we have) and couple of fringe players, lacking any confidence and desire and happy to collect their money. Change of manager may cause one or two departures which will prove difficult to cope with for the new regime, as there are no replacements ready in the squad, like Chelsea or Manchester clubs have.

The only team I wouldn’t expect complications from changing their manager is Liverpool, as it simply cannot go worse than it did with Kenny. Every other club changing their manager is more than fine with me as long as we keep our decorated AP on board.

So tell me, in what sense is he a ‘top’ Venezuelan striker over just a Venezuelan striker?? Have to say I can’t stand these inflated headlines – there’s just no need.

    Great on Fifa

27 goals in 72 doesn’t really justify such an increase in price especially by that much.

I remember back in the days when i was extremely active on this blog discussing about players in general and when i was recommending Falcao while he was in River Plate together with Alexis Sanchez,,,so many people were on my back cos no one knew about him..then when i was saying about Levandovski while at Lech Poznan..i was even posting videos about him saying he’s the next big thing.
Too bad we didnt go for Petr Jiracek and Vaclav Pilar…such an explosive duo.

@16 – maybe you’ll be more noticed now you’ve changed your name, Dennis – although I don’t think you’ll get your old scouting job back at NUFC as they seem to have gone and offered a 7 year contract to some clueless old geezer called Carr. He doesn’t even know how to get on the internet never mind watch youtube either!

Really think it’s time we started to show some positive moves in the transfer market. By this time last year we had one or two sewn up.
What are we waiting for? To see where all the top players go before trying to mop up the balance?
Getting somewhat tired with us being linked with every man and his dog at the moment.

Yeah, I think Vertonghen wants to go to Spurs because of Harry Redknapp and Van Der Vaart. Hopefully Redknapp will resign and Van Der Vaart will head back to Germany. There’s no reason why Vertonghen shouldn’t sign for us. Just imagine the team/squad we’d have if we signed these players:

    Debuchy/Cissokho
    Vertonghen
    Marvin Martin
    Giroud
    Anita/Diame
    Hoilett
    Mbiwa/Aldereweild
    Steven Fletcher

Will cost us a bit, but we’ll pay out for the players that we really need (i.e. Vertonghen, Debuchy, Giroud etc).

Based on the admittedly weak assumption that we don’t sell anyone, I’d be very happy with a CB and a FB this summer.

I think we’ve got to get real here. Yes, we need a bigger squad, but we haven’t invested millions and millions into our youth system for the last 3 years for no reason.

£10m for Vertonghen is just too much. He’s a good player, and very very versatile, but we’re not going near that price tag are we.

Ronaldo gets frustrated and angry when he works his bollocks off for 90 minutes and gets let down by the rest of his team – ala Portugal.

I think he has every right to be angry after that performance.

Why not buy both Giuseppe Meazza and his stadium while you are at it. Milan seems to have become a selling club this summer.
