Ladbrokes have opened betting on where the former Tottenham manager will end up, and Newcastle are the initial 7/2 favorites.
Harry Redknapp – out of a job
It’s true that Mike Ashley wanted Harry at Newcastle to replace Sam Allardyce, when Sam was was fired in early January of 2008, but after initially accepting the job, Harry then turned it down.
Harry has always preferred to stay in the south and around London, and we don’t think as he gets older, that will change much at all.
But the 65-year-old is said to be keen to continue in football management, and was hoping for a long term deal at Spurs, before he was fired earlier today.
There’s no way that Newcastle would attempt to appoint Harry as the Newcastle manager, given how well Alan Pardew has done in the manager role over the last eighteen months.
There may be a position for Harry at Newcastle, something like the Director of Football, but we don’t think Harry would want a job like that, and we don’t think Mike Ashley would want to resurrect the position, once held by Dennis Wise.
Harry will have to hope for a job at his old club West Ham or even at Fulham, but there seems no chance of there being a job available at those two clubs until next summer, at the earliest.
If Roberto de Matteo has a bad start at Chelsea, there may be a job there for Harry half-way through the season, but there seems nothing for him right now.
Southampton also have a good manager in Nigel Adkins, but Harry did not have a good time of it when he was at Southampton, come to think of it.
Comments welcome.

Comment #43Hotdog it was a ball into a good area. I agree. Just saying that chiellini did terribly too though

Comment #44In fairness Strinic’s been playing crosses in all game, looks pretty decent and only 24. Chiellini awful defending for Mandzukic’s goal. Keemon Croatia, get a second!

Comment #46This is random, but we’re 100/1 to win the Prem next year apparently. Sunderland are 1000/1, meaning we’re 10x better than them? 😀

Great goal croatia shame there fans are muppetts
If its about the flares i kind of agree with you,if its for some other reasons then i disagree with you big time.
They messed up their team a promising play in the 77th minute when Strinic(good player) had a chance for open cross but failed cos of the huge smoke and could not see where Jelavic and Mandzukic were positioned.

Comment #53Partizan aye the smoke bombs i mean your teams pulled a goal back to go level and now look the better team so you smoke bomb the pitch so they cant see each other!
Personally i feel with the presure croatia were applying during the 5-10 mins after they scored i feel the fans may of cost them the 3 points

Note being a betting man it is of little interest to me, although I find it a little curious than slitherpool can be placed so high after their performance last season.
I think it will be a minor miracle if BR can get them to recover so much lost ground in so short a time, as to be in with a shout of the league title.
I do feel that the swans passing game was established by Martinez and carried on by Souza and Rodgers inherited that ethos, can he then get the bindippers to play like that or can he change his idea of how to play football to suit the dysfunctional squad he has inherited now?

Exactly mate…even though Croatia is not my team(Serbia),,their fans completely ruined their big chance in the 77th minute and broke the Croatian team their huge momentum, very immature from them cos the Italians were in a complete knockdown from the 72nd minute.

Comment #63I concur on the Croatia/Italy game the smoke could well have cost them the game lots of momentum piling on the pressure and that stopped to clear the smoke thus allowing Italy to regroup and stand firm.

Is he now starting to find that confidence that made him the great goal getter he once was???

Comment #65Maybe this is the wrong thing to be saying on a newcastle blog.. but…how can Ireland not be starting James Mclean? He’s overrated slightly, but better than most of this Irish midfield. I mean Keith Andrews…really?

I was thinkin the exact same thing! Not the place to praise a mackem. I’m irish and I just hate watching them, the footballing philosphy of hoofing it makes me sick. And lads like anthony pilkington and stokes never got called up.. while paul mcshite and paul green were?! Darren gibson and mcclean sittin on the bench, they’d offer a lot more composure on the ball.

Comment #74depending on who they get in as manager, i can see spurs losing some players, name modric, van der vaart and possibly bale
their squad is needing a small revamp, van der vaart, saha, king, gallas, parker and friedel are all 29+
i would say only bale, lennon and walker are gonna still be around in 3/4 years
as for harry to nufc – no way. dont want him and he wouldnt come. he still lives on south coast even when in charge at london club so cant see him going north of the capital really
and i think spurs let him go once rdm was given job at chelsea as they knew chelsea would have taken him as their manager
now harry has few options as far as i can see

Comment #76didnt realize anthony pilkington was Irish..youre right..certainly good enough to make the Irish team.
ireland and greece are the worst teams in the tournament. I dont even know what strategy theyre going for. They cant be counterattacking, because they have no pace.
and….as i write that spain scores…
