News in the Daily Mirror today that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wants to snatch Lille and French International Mathieu Debuchy, from his proposed move to Newcastle.
Mathieu Debuchy challenges Jolean Lescott last Monday
It has been believed that Debuchy would be on his way to Newcastle this summer, but the Tyneside club’s failure to sign him up on a deal before the Euro 2012 Championships could cost Newcastle dearly.
Chelsea are likely to come in and pay Lille whatever they want for their player, if this news is accurate..
And the wages Cheslea can pay Debuchy are higher than what he would get at Newcastle.
Of course this all assumes the report in the Mirror is true, and from what we’ve seen in the news recently, it seems that Roman Abromovich wants any good player who moves – and doesn’t the manager at Chelsea get any say in these deals - probably not.
The 26 year-0ld right-back had been expected to move to Newcastle this summer, but with his outstanding display against England last Monday night, and with this more than competent display against the Ukraine tonight in France’s 2-0 win, he has turned heads – for sure.
Chelsea have let one of their right backs, Jose Bosingwa, leave the club, and they will want to bring in a right back to replace him, so maybe it’s true they are interested in the Frenchman.
And there’s news that Branislav Ivanovic, who has played right-back many times at Chelsea, prefers only to play at center-back from now on.
Maybe the Chelsea interest is why Newcastle were reported to have put in an early bid of 5M for the French International - which we reported tonight – but it will be very difficult to win a head-to-head race with Chelsea for the French international.
