There is news in France that Newcastle are interested in Montpellier left-back Henri Bedimo.
Henri Bedimo – Newcastle interested in Cameroon defender?
It’s not surprising that there are reports surfacing in France, because that’s where Newcastle, and Chief Scout Graham Carr do a lot od their scouting.
And Newcastle could be interested in the left back, or left sided defender, because Newcastle have been watching their captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and their French striker, Olivier Giroud, who is likely to go to Arsenal for around £12M this summer.
The one problem we see with Bedimo, is that he turned 28 earlier this month, and it would be very rare for Mike Ashley to sanction a move for a player so old.
Generally the rule at Newcastle is the player has to be 26 years-old or younger, and when they are 26, they have to be very good for the Magpies to be interested.
Both top Senegal strikers Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse were signed by Newcastle over the last year, when they were 26.
His contract is also until 2015 at Montpellier, since he signed a four year deal last summer, so it’s not as if he can be picked up on a free transfer, so we doubt this story has much, if any any truth in it.
Bedimo has played in the French Leagues since he made his debut for Grenoble ten years ago, and he only moved to Montpellier from Lens last summer.
Henri Bedimo was born in Douala, Cameroon and has played for Cameroon 15 times, and we don’t expect Newcastle to be signing many, if any, African players this summer.
What do you think?

Comment #1don’t know much about this lad so can’t say much but….
does anyone think debuchy’s value isn’t going up? he has had a decent tournament so far without shining.
he has been caught out and turned easily by oxlaid chamberlain and the ukrain winger a few times.
definitely a big improvement for our team if we get him but he hasn’t looked world class so value might stay the same.

Comment #6I guess we are linked with every left sided defender in Europe – providing he can play without a stick; is under 28, can breathe un-aided. Narrows it down a bit I guess!!!

Comment #7Not wishing to stop this in its tracks but:
African Cup of Nations tournement!
We already lose a number of players for two months around January, so this Cameroon player as good as he may be is a NO for me!
