Newcastle Give Up On Brazilian Douglas

News today ion the Newcastle Journal that FC Twente center-back Douglas, is no longer a summer target for Newcastle United.

Douglas – Newcastle give up on trying to get this Brazilian defender

And it seems the reason is that the deal has become so complex, because like Demba  Ba, it’s not clear who is representing the player, and various different agents claim they are Douglas’ official representative.

And the ohter thing that has frustrated and even angered Newcatsle officials, is the demands being made by his agents, and it seems a case of a number of people trying to get rich off the player.

It’s not necessarily Douglas’ fault of course, but he did not look too good when he talked recently of a club bigger than Newcastle being after him.

Geordie fans don’t really appreciate that kind of thing,  and a number of fans were turned off him by this specific comment.

And at the time a number of our readers – 40% – thought Newcastle should give up on the player, since he had too much ego, and these are the results of a poll we started on 6th June, after Douglas had made those comments:

Should Newcastle Sign Brazilian Douglas For £5M?

  • Yes (51%, 949 Votes)
  • No (40%, 758 Votes)
  • Not Sure (9%, 171 Votes)

Total Voters: 1,878

Newcastle are not prepared to pay outlandish fees to agents for any player, and will rather walk away from the deal, although Douglas, at 6’4″ tall and a no-nonsense defender, could have fit the bill on Tyneside,  and done a decent job for Newcastle.

So that’s one player to cross off the list, and we may be getting short of players, because by our estimate that leaves only 63 left to choose from. 😀

Comments welcome.

    Actually Ed, Douglas does decide himself whom he wants to represent him.

    In my book the conduct of your agent or agents reflect the player.

    @jesper

    Spot on with that.

    If your agent is making thins difficult or dragging it out sack him and find another one.

    It gets complicated when a player has his family represent him. It’s harder to sack your family than a Random agent.

    One should never mix family and business it complicates things.

    I know family always has your best interests at heart – or at least they should have, but when money is involved people change.

    I hope the Douglas deal is dead and buried. I was talking to a group of FC Twente supporters last weekend, and while they sang the praises of Chieck Tiote, claiming we stole him, they said we can have Douglas for free as he is not so good, and cant understand the fuss over him.

    Anyone else fustrated with how things ate going on the transfer front? I mean we’ve only brought in amalfitano and preseason is what 3 weeks away.. time to start gettin players across the line, even if they’re at the euro open talks with the club. Agree a fee, I’m gettin a bit worried anyway

    @10:

    This frustration is all part and Parcel of supporting NUFC !

    We are all just going to have to be a hell of a lot more patient and wait till the end of the Euro,s.

    Douglas would of been a good signing but if he or his club or his many agents and family are pissing us around, then there are pleny of other players out there to be scouted.

    Some of them might even want to come and play for us.
    I am a bit frustrated, but not yet worried.

    Heh only one exclamation mark! Oeps.
