The Lille manager Rudy Garcia has confirmed that Newcastle faxed in an offer of £4M for the right-back star Mathieu Debuchy, and says the club have no plans to replace the player – yet.
Mathieu Debuchy – played so well against England
The bid seems to have been made last Friday, but other clubs such as Inter-Milan and Chelsea are interested, and rumors that AC Milan and Bayern Munich may also have become keen on the player, and that will make it harder for Newcastle to get their man.
The bid made by Newcastle is considered far too low, but exactly what Lille want for their player is now known – other than as much as they can get.
And that figure could be increasing a lot, if it turns into an auction for Debuchy, and if that happens Newcastle will not be signing Debuchy.
This is what Garcia told the French web-site 20 Minutes:
“I believe Newcastle have faxed an offer of £4M – but they have the wrong player!” “He is torn between staying with us and playing in the Champions League in our new stadium or going elsewhere.”
“If he does go and it is a sporting progression, then we will be happy to see him evolve – but we have not planned to replace him.”
Garcia believes that Debuchy could move on this summer, after playing for Lille since 2004, and putting in 288 appearances and scoring 17 goals for the only club he has ever played for.
That was so similar to Yohan Cabaye’s history, before he signed for Newcastle last June, and we hope Yohan’s big pal will be arriving on Tyneside this summer.
Luuk de Jong – worth £15M?
And there are reports that Newcastle have not bid £8M for Luuk de Jong, but on the latest Sky Sports News, they are reporting that FC Twente want £15M for their 21 year-old striker.
There’s no way Newcastle will pay that much for the Dutch international.
