France Missed Yohan Cabaye’s Control Against Sweden

With France needing only a point to qualify last night against Sweden, Laurent Blanc took the opportunity to rest some key players, and give others in the squad a run out.

France missed Yohan Cabaye big time last night

And what happened is the Blanc rested his key central midfielder Yohan Cabaye, who had picked up a slight thigh strain against the Ukraine, and Laurent also gave Newcastle’s other player in the French squad, Ben Arfa,  a start.

And given that the Swedish squad would be taking the plane after the game back to their homeland, because they has already been eliminated from the tournament, you have to give the Swedish players and coaches a lot of credit for the way they played last night, as though their lives depended on winning the game.

And of course that’s exactly what they did last night, against an off-key French side, who continued to miss the chances that were presented to them.

There’s no doubt that when France take on reigning Champions Spain, they will have Newcastle’s Yohan  Cabaye back in the starting eleven,  and running the midfield for them.

And we think France has a better chance of success against Spain than people think,  especially after significantly lowering expectations because of their loss to Sweden.

Sweden did themselves and their fans proud last night by their excellent performance, and France may do the same thing on Saturday night, and hand Spain their first competitive loss in a tournament since back in 2006 in Germany in the World Cup.

And since there’s no games today for the first time in 13 days, and an off day before the quarter finals start tomorrow for four days on the trot, I’ll have to find something to keep me busy today.

I guess I could watch Newcastle hammering Manchester United 3-0 in January at St. James’ Park.

Yes, that will be an excellent choice. 😀

And that ladies is why Cabaye is world class.

It’s not what he brings as an individual but what he offers to a team!!

Haha not at all! Though I didn’t see the game but I fully believe Cabs is twice the player of Mvila and Diarra….did hear our other golden boy looked more like a rusty nail

    @WWYCD
Cabaye didn’t play, and France lost against Sweden.
I think the evidence is pretty clear 😛

But in all fairness, i watched the entire game, and France lacked a maestro to control the play of the game. No one to tie them together, too much individual efforts.

Cabaye missing might have something to do with it, but once again for me Benzema and most of Nasri is the problem.

…and I wonder how come they got nothing out of HBA. They didnt use his abilities at all.

…in the end Blanc is to blame for sticking with Nasri and Benzema 🙂

I don’t think it will lad he should be able to see a difference between club and country football. I have no worries about that but from what I heard he played like he did for us early season hope he doesn’t revert to that

    Kevy
    Barca quality? Howay man

HBA did not play bad or like he did early season for us.

The problem was that there was no room on the right for him to move into with Debuchy going forward so often and Nasri closing him down.

Not to mention Benzema dropping down into the same area just so he could take yet another shot at goal.

Ribery had all the space he wanted on the left but nothing came of it.

Most French players had a shocking game yesterday, with no movement and nowhere to move. HBA was by no means the worse player.

Spot on Jesper….Nasri and HBA in the same team just doesn’t work…they are very similar and there is just no symmetry or progression when they are near each other on the pitch.
On Ribery…he never fails to under achieve on the big stage yet is treated like a golden boy whereas HBA gets pilloried at the first opportunity!
