News today that Newcastle may be interested in young Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
Alvaro Morata – 19 year-old 6’3″ Real Madrid striker
Newcastle were first linked with this player back in March, and the lad has now been given permission to leave Real Madrid, and other clubs interested in the youngster seem to be QPR and Liverpool – of course.
The 19 year-old has failed to make it into the Real Madrid first team squad, and he was signed from Getafe in 2008, and has made 65 appearances for Real Madrid Castella – the Real Madrid Reserve team, which plays in the Spanish second division – and he’s scored a good 32 goals over the last two seasons.
Morata has so far made four appearances for the full Real Madrid side, two each in the last two seasons.
Alvaro has played for all the Spanish Youth sides through the U19 level, and has scored 11 goals in just 13 appearances for their strong Spanish U19 side.
Morata was in the Spain squad for the 2011 European U-19 Football Championship in Romania, and he helped the Spanish team to win the tournament by scoring six goals, and was the highest goal-scorer in the competition, and won the Golden Boot.
Morato stands 6’3″ tall and is very good in the air, and also at holding up the ball, Alan Shearer style, and the lad is also a good finisher.
The Madrid-born youngster is fast and mobile, and he’s been compared to Spaniard and former Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes, who spent some time at Liverpool from 2005-2006.
The news is that QPR are willing to offer Morata wages of around £30K/week, in an effort to get him to the club – who do they think they are – Manchester City?
Newcastle will not offer him anywhere near those wages, since he’s currently completely unproven at the highest level – so that being the case – this may be the last story you read of Newcastle’s interest in the youngster.
Maybe.
Comments welcome.

Definitely worth a look and i’m sure the NUFC scouting team led by Mr Carr have looked at this lad and the situation and either given it a pass or put him on the list for potential buys.
Everyone on here (me included to some extent) are getting a bit apprehensive about the lack of activity in the market since the arrival of the promising Romain Amalfitano. I am sure Pardew, Carr, Ashley and Llambias are beavering away to ensure the best possible deals for the club and when they happen they’ll come thick and fast.
We won’t leave massive gaps between deal i suspect as Pards will want business done quickly so the squad can form a good bond but we’ve been using May and June to mull over options so we can get the lads over the line in July before the hectic business happens in August as we found out last year with a certain Bryan Ruiz!

10 WWYCD // Jun 20, 2012 at 4:35 PM
Read this today and if we flog Ranger and this lad gets his wages then am all for it however the article said QPR were willing to offer 30k a week
11 No Plain Saylor // Jun 20, 2012 at 4:39 PM
Wouldnt cost the earth, a million or two? A player that can quietly develop in the background, and he sounda promising. This is the type of story I love, carr unearthing the next spainish gem!
12 Dannyo // Jun 20, 2012 at 4:40 PM
I’m telling u, if QPR keep spending, especially on wages, it’ll come back to hurt them. If they were planning to break into top 6, they would have to be allot more clever with their spending, and not give £30K wages to unproven 19 year olds.
They’re digging their own grave. Come on Portsmouth.
13 graham cwarr // Jun 20, 2012 at 4:40 PM
If Qpr are stupid enough to offer him 30k a week they can have him. Plus they only seem to get expensive flops (wage wise)
14 WWYCD // Jun 20, 2012 at 4:45 PM
Haha calm down on QPR lads the story is from the Sun after all ran the story Barton was going to be on 6 figures when he signed for them and he aint. They also said Twente told us to double our bid (though am sure its because they don’t understand exchange rates)
Its probably balls

If you watch goal 2 backwards, its about a world class player who leaves real and joins newcastle.. then again if you watch 127 hours backwards its about a handicapped guy who goes out to the desert and finds an arm.. just sayin

I do feel that this kid could be a good purchase, let him come in the range of the wage shedual for his age. Its going to be lower than 30 k a week, as Simpson is 25 aint getting what he wants. I do feel that the wage structure is very important to keep. i do expect a lot of the youth players that was here a month ago to be signed after the first of july when the new season starts

@Newcbn Where are you geting the 1 year left on his contract when it has been widely circulated that he has still got 3 years left on his contract.
35 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 5:51 PM
@oldgit
On 6 April 2009 it was confirmed that Luuk de Jong signed a contract for 3 years with an option for another year with FC Twente. His contract would start on the first of July 2009.
got this from wikipedia and found the same on a transfer website
can’t find anything to suggest he has still got 3 years to run
36 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 5:52 PM
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/luuk-de-jong/profil/spieler_72522.html
this site puts him in contract for a further 2 years…..not sure which is the most reliable source.
37 Tsunki // Jun 20, 2012 at 5:57 PM
De Jong is shocking, full stop. Why have a thug like that in the side – we’d need backup for both Tiote and him while they are serving suspensions. Plus I didn’t think he was outstanding at the euros or even for citeh there I said it. Plus he’s a thug. Let’s ask HBA if he’s ok with this idea….
38 Oldgit1 // Jun 20, 2012 at 5:57 PM
It was a comment made by him when he was asked about a move to benfica he said I still have 3 years left on my contract so Im not in a hurry to make a move just yet. This was a quo te directly by him.
I like your bench btw, will give the younger players a chance.
PS dont get me wrong I wish it was only 1 year left on his contract but am not convinced.
39 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 6:01 PM
De Jong isn’t a thug….he made a bad tackle on ben arfa but i don’t think he intended to hurt him, he has never done it before or since, he is just a tough tackler.
But I do agree that he isn’t that good, he isn’t getting in city’s team behind barry so he can’t be great. There are much better players available for that sort of value.
40 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 6:04 PM
@oldgit
i have no idea what to believe with contracts….players/clubs and agents only release information which benefits themselves not always the whole truth.
So I just give up and dont worry about it all now.
41 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 20, 2012 at 6:06 PM
To many de jongs goin on here!!!!!!
Rich toon Re the bald de jong and i might wrong but was it him that kung fu kicked alonso in the chest in tge world cup final??
Oldgit not sure how accurate they are but SSN were report blonde de jong only had a year left and we were looking to take advantage of that
42 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 6:09 PM
@tds
bald de jong isn’t clean but he isn’t a thug, I meant he hasn’t caused serious injury and he doesn’t look like it most of the time, he is just a strong tackler.
But I still don’t want him.
43 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 6:11 PM
obviously other than the ben arfa incident.
44 Tsunki // Jun 20, 2012 at 6:12 PM
Ok rich gonna have to disagree on the HBA tackle he knew what he was doing, even if he didn’t expect to do so much damage it was designed to take him out as a bonus in the tackle. Definite half and half one that. But the flying kung-fu style kick to the chest of Alonso must rank as a ‘thug’ challenge. Worst disciplinary record a season ago for citeh. He’s a thug all right.
45 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 20, 2012 at 6:14 PM
Wow dont know whats more embarrassing UEFA fining the FA for an attempted pitch invasion after beating sweeden or the fact that our fans couldnt actually pull off a pitch invasion?
46 davybtoon // Jun 20, 2012 at 6:15 PM
Luuk de Jong has one year left on his contract
Marvin Martin has signed a 5 year deal at Lille
And I am convinced Henri bedimo will b our next signing, the more I think about it the more it makes sense, we won’t get debuchy so if we can’t get the best rb in France lets get the best lb which is bedimo he has only jus turned 28 n debuchy turns 27 in few weeks not that much difference n of course there is the fact we will probably get him for 4/5mill half the price of debuchy for a player that is jus as good if not better
47 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 6:16 PM
well he has calmed down since then…..there is a difference between a hard tackle you think will be fair and a intent to injure somebody/
The ref didn’t even give the ben arfa tackle as a foul so shows it wasn’t too bad, just unfortunate outcome.
And tiote had a terrible record in his first season here, de jong has calmed down a lot.
48 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 20, 2012 at 6:16 PM
@rich didnt say he was a thug just really wanted to know if was the one cantonaring it in the world cup!!!
49 Oldgit1 // Jun 20, 2012 at 6:18 PM
The bald de Jong who plays for city is an out an out thug, will never like this guy, straight after his tackle on HBA which resulted in having his leg broken in two places and was getting treatment he did a high fives with miliner, you could see milner being embarresed but he still went through with the high fives.with de jong.
50 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 6:18 PM
@davy
why wont we get debuchy? he has had a poor tournament defensively so big clubs like chelsea and madrid will be put off and sign the flavour of the month player, leaving us to get him hopefully.
Although I do think lille do not like us after we took advantage of cabaye’s release clause, they seem like they feel we owe them something so will over charge us for any players.
51 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 20, 2012 at 6:19 PM

If we’re not willing to splash out too much, we could go for Cissokho at £6m and then go for Fanni on loan. At least Fanni will cover the right-back and centre-back positions. Yes, I know he’s around 30, but It’s just a suggestion if we don’t want to break the bank.

Sorry but don’t add me into your impatient list.
I have never been apprehensive about any off season as I have always been of the opinion that there is nothing I can do so about it why get all uppity and anxious.
I have skipped over a lot of yours and others team postings as got a little bored with how easily you spent 20,30,40 mil of someone else’s money with what appeared to be very little thought to how these players would fit into the squad psychologically, as this is well documented now as to how NUFC work.
So NO not everyone on here is getting a bit apprehensive.

Has anybody seen (an if yes why not mentioned) we have had a bid rejected for Alderwierled??
According to the Dutch press it was for 4 million.
So so far it’s rejected bids for Debuchy, Alderweirled, Anita and De Jong!
That would be 4 terrific signings but I dot think we have officially bidded for any of them myself!
Thoughts girls??
98 cupiddstunt // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:15 PM
MagpiesFlyHigh @ # 93
It’s a simple philosophy really, why get so worked up like so many on here saying we should go for this player or that player when in all probability the club hasn’t even looked at the said players and when these players are signed by another club there is all this “well we missed that one who we going for now” when as I said the club probably were not even in for them in the first place.
I am far happier just sitting back and watching the club do their thing as they have been doing for the last couple of seasons and doing it very well I might add.
They will bring in who THEY think is right and is at the right price, and if they are not at the right price then they will be left on the shelf, and I am happy with that.
99 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:15 PM
That’s putting words in my mouth.
It wasn’t a terrible tackle, e received no punishment after either. It was a very hard tackle but no malice in it. Benny was just unlucky the way they came together.
100 Beattie25 // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:18 PM
The only players we have missed have been Erding, Gamerio and Maiga.
And I’m glad we did
101 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:18 PM
@cupid
Spot on. The club Do things properly. If we signed players cause we saw them have a good game or saw a YouTube clip we would be like Dennis wise.
Te hole point of the scouting network is to identify talent, investigate if they fit in the team, can they add to the squad, can we get them in for the right price etc.
There is no point in us worrying, just wait for the good news when somebody signs and enjoy the matches when they come along again.
102 GeordieToon89 // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:20 PM
Has our bid for De Jong even been rejected yet? all ive seen it ‘We understand they are looking for closer to £15million’ never mentioned anything about being rejected because it said they’re thinking it over with him only having a year left

I have a bit of a feeling that the bids may be real but think they are “water testers”.
Regardless of what is said in the public domain it is how the clubs respond directly to the bids that tell you if you are in the same post code or not.
If you get a well mannered reply then you may well be not far off but you get laughed at then you know you are nowhere near their own appraisal and you will know whether it is worth pursuing or not.

I said something similar at about 10 this morning. We haven’t had a bid rejected for any of these guys I am 99.9% sure!!
106 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Clubs will make more bids and enquiries than we hear about.
There will be a lot of phone calls into agents ad chairmen asking prices and availability and we will get a lot of calls from clubs pushing their players too.

I think now is the time to buy Alderweirled. Whilst vertonghen is on the back burner sneak in, buy Alderweirled and let Ajax sort it out with his team mate.
108 Beattie25 // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:30 PM
So what you guys are saying is that these 4 bids may have some legs and that further bids maybe made?!
Would Debuchy, Alderweirled, Anita and De Jong even be realistic??
109 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:32 PM
I have nobodea if they are real bids or If they are just tentative enquires or entirely made up.
I’m sure the club will be talking to some other club and players though trying to do deals. No idea if they are the ones in the papers though

Luuk de Jong won’t be free agent next year….
http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3275/bundesliga/2012/05/31/3139495/luuk-de-jong-dreams-of-bayern-switch
“I know there are a number of clubs interested in me,” he added. “I have a three-year contract in Enschede, but if an interesting offer comes then I will certainly think about it.”
111 GeordieoftheSouth // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:33 PM
Hasn’t Alderweirld come out and said he would be a fool to leave Ajax now?
112 mondziu // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:41 PM
Aldreweierld won’t leave this summer, as they have to sell Vertonghen because of his contract ending next year. They play CL next year again, so unlikely to change both CBs.
I share the sentiment that what we read in the papers is far off the truth, but my subconsciousness tells me to believe in Dreamboat mk2 arriving.

On the De Jong thing I personally think that he went in with an overly heavy tackle that had deliberate intent.
I am not saying he intended to break HBA’s leg but he certainly intended to hurt HBA with the tackle just to let him know there was someone around who was not going to take being messed around.
He had watched HBA turn a city player inside out a couple of times and decided to let him (HBA) know he was not going to get away with it so came right through HBA both feet off the ground and if you doubt the idea that de jong is a footballing thug then watch the tackle on Allonso and come back and tell me just what he was doing as he was never anywhere near the ball.

Blackburn have apparently bid around £1.75million for Leon Best
116 Beattie25 // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:47 PM
As I have said since May.
If the club want to sign Debuchy it’ll be a done deal already or the club won’t sign him at all.
There Is no way we’d enter a bidding war for his services or decide ‘he’s the one’ and then wait to see what happens. That ain’t our style.
Rudi Garcia wants to keep him but can only do so much, it’s out of his hands.
Debuchy says that he’ll ‘discuss..’ (not decide) ‘…discuss his future after the Euros.’
Decisions been made and he’ll discuss it after. Is that decision to join us??
Is it fcuk
117 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:48 PM
I just think thug is over the top. Yes he made a couple bad tackles on his career but he has seemingly tonedit down the past year or so.
Either way in sure most of us are in agreement that he is not a player we need or really want to see in a toon shirt.

I for one think there may be more to the bids than just to dismiss them offhand, I think NUFC will be responding to the ones that got a polite rebuff and leaving the ones they got laughs from.
GC has already said that we have numerous targets and each target has several backups earmarked in case the primary targets are out of reach.
120 mondziu // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:50 PM
Beattie – especially after Pardew told in the BBC interview we were after Yo’s mate. I thought exactly the same, it’s either done or smokescreen.
121 rich_toonfan // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:51 PM
Remember though Beattie we may really want debuchy and Lille will have el out hoping he has a good euros.
Thankfully he has been caught out defensively a few times so hopefully that will detract a bit of interest in him from some bigger clubs.
We might have gambled on him after the Euros but if he ends up being too pricey we will have a back up prepared.
122 Beattie25 // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:51 PM
Found the link but I doubt Best would go to Blackburn!
Gotta feeling he’ll end up at Norwich with Hoots.
Reckon Simpson will go there too.
123 GeordieToon89 // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:52 PM
Now nufcfans are saying £2million fee agreed.. surely we have some striker already sorted as a replacement for all these leaving!! we aint that daft are we.?
124 mondziu // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:56 PM
I really think Best is not that bad, my main doubts are about his attitude, not ability.
If he’s gone, we surely are buying a striker to make Ba even more jelous?
125 Beattie25 // Jun 20, 2012 at 10:58 PM
Rich
I just think that the decision that Debuchy being first choice RB for us would’ve been made (if made at all) last year. I think we would have waited to see his value increase/decrease over that period but in no way would’ve risked loosing him in this way. If he is the one we wanted above all else we would’ve bidded as soon as Sagna got injured. If Lille then said ‘let’s wait and see’ I dont think we’d have agreed to that knowing full well we cannot compete with bigger teams and would be never drawn into a bidding war.
If he doesn’t sign in the next 2 weeks I think he was never our first choice and all along we’ve been looking at him as an alternative to whomever we think is better.
For me the Aly Cissokho connection is relevant. I have a sneaking suspicion that Cissokho may be our favoured choice due to his age, past value and future potential. I could be wrong but it whiffs of smoke and mirrors.
126 MagpiesFlyHigh // Jun 20, 2012 at 11:00 PM
I think the evidence of Nigel De Jong’s attitude is in the fact that he did a crunching tackle that broke Benny’s leg. He also did a chest high tackle on Alonso.
He has been known as a “hard man” for a long time.
He either did both the above with malicious intent or was is clumsy he doesn’t care about the impact his tackling has. Either way the thing description seek pretty accurate. Anyone remember Keane boasting in his autobiography about career ending tackles ?
127 GeordieToon89 // Jun 20, 2012 at 11:00 PM
Beattie – A think Simo and Best will go to Norwich like but Best will depend on Holt leaving ad imagine, also wouldnt be suprised to see maybe Smith or Guthrie go there aswell

De Jong is a bold, expensive f*cker, forget him.
Flamini was massive at Arsenal but it’s prehistorics and he would want money as well.
132 mondziu // Jun 20, 2012 at 11:12 PM
Forget De Jong, he’s bold and ugly. We need more Dreamboats before Arsenal takes them, like they did with Giroud.
Flamini was massive before going to Serie A but that was ages ago, don’t think we even look at him. I think Carr deliberately avoids watching games with players over 25 performing so as not to keep up their hopes of joining us.
133 davybtoon // Jun 20, 2012 at 11:26 PM
Best, lovenkrands, xisco, ranger all leaving but yet ppl still think de Jong is replacement for ba, that’s 4 maybe 5 strikers out that means at least the same back in good times
134 newcben // Jun 20, 2012 at 11:27 PM
@Tsunki
If you were at the home game against City you would of seen De Jong search out HBA on the bench after the final whistle to embrace him! Its a contact sport and accidents happen, its the exact type of thing Tiote could do to another player but we all know he wouldn’t intentionally hurt someone!
I read a report saying he is contemplating his future because he only has a yr left, i rate him personally and it would give our attacking players freedom to roam!

And so another day passes with Newcastle failing to take advantage in the transfer market. Other clubs have already made serious moves and we’ve been left behind in the wind. I have faith in GC and the team but as each day passes, my faith feigns.
I’d be very surprised if we signed anyone before July 1st and to be honest, I can’t see us signing more than 3 players in the summer transfer window. I reckon MA will take a risk and force Alan to promote the youngsters from the reserves to the first team. I think we will get an obscure centre back, a cheap striker and a full back but it won’t be Debuchy. The whole thing with the latter player stinks of the Gervinho saga.
I hate to be the pessimist and really hope I’m proved wrong but we’ve not conducted business as quickly and efficiently as last season. I’m getting worried and am just voicing my opinion, feel free to disagree.

I’m also just thinking we need another solid DM like Tiote instead of Jonas there because lets face it Santon at LB and if we get Debuchy at RB are not the most defensive minded they both like to push on and having a solid holding player would allow them to do this.

I hope so mate but whilst other clubs are capitalising on this pre-transfer window period, we seem to just be sitting back twiddling our thumbs. We’ve signed one player, a free transfer from the French second division. Hardly what you’d call taking us to the next level.
From what I can gather, we’ve not bid for any players except for Debuchy and that was an embarrassingly low offer. If we carry on in this fashion then not only will we miss out on our transfer targets, but othe clubs will just avoid doing business with us. Our transfer strategy worked great last season but sometimes you have to change your policy. Clubs are aware that we’ve picked up gems for peanuts and they’ll know that they can force us to up our offer if we bid for one of their players. However, the catch is that MA wot do that. I have a guy feeling that we’re gonna get caught high and dry as we won’t be willing to pay that bit extra to secure our initial targets.

Loads of PL teams have done business. Southampton and Reading have conducted early transfers, West Ham have sorted out Diame and someone else I believe. Tottenham are sorting out the vertoghen transfer. WBA are in talks with Foster. Obviously Chelsea, both the Manchester teams and Arsenal have the funds to sort out transfers that we don’t but surely all these clubs making moves indicates that we should be to? I haven’t even mentioned foreign clubs.

Aye it’s still june but until this time last year we already was bought Marveaux, Ba and Cabaye… now we’ve got only one boy from second tire french club. And after all this summer is much more important that last year’s.
It will be good if the team is set up for the start of pre season which means two weeks. I just can’t see how we can bought 3-4 more key players for two weeks. We should buy Debuchy months ago… if we really want him.
160 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jun 21, 2012 at 12:51 AM
Davy…to be fair, how many games did Xisco, Smith, Lovenkrands or Ranger play for us last season? We lacked depth last season, but still didn’t really use the squad available. I don’t really expect the main squad size to increase to much, but the quality should. I then expect the numbers to be filled up with some of the younger players pushing for a chance.
Could be well off, but I don’t think the players mentioned above can be called “first team players”.

I understand that some people are worried about not getting any transfers over the line as we are an impatient lot to please, but there is no need to panic.
Have faith in the men doing their jobs behind the scenes. There is a Euro Cup going on, many scouts and agents will be tied up with some of the players that are being represented there.
The transfer window itself hasn’t even officially opened just yet.
To whoever said Newcastle has no luck with players bought from Spain, I would like to point out that while this can be true for a predominant portion of the players bought from the region, do realize our club captain and Jonas were both bought from Spain. And they’ve done alright by me.
As for incoming transfers, I would have liked to have gotten Barnetta on a free, and personally I do not think Newcastle are going for Debuchy. I believe he is a smokescreen whilst Newcastle are busy pursuing someone else, hence what Rudi Garcia described as an “insulting bid” and such stirring up the media, and detracting attention from elsewhere. Just because Graham Carr and Pardew were watching Lille play, doesn’t mean they were looking at Debuchy. Do recall how Pardew wants a goalscoring centre half. Perhaps that is what they were looking for.
But then again I won’t sit here and pretend that I know anything about what is going on, as it is all pure speculation from our point of view.
Internally though I would expect Fraser Forster to go and for the younger lads to get more playing time. However, Vuckic really needs to get a grip of his injuries, as it is curtailing his progress. Hoping he gets over it as he is a talent in the making.
