Newcastle Will Turn To Alternatives If They Cannot Get Debuchy

It’s certain that Mathieu Debuchy is Newcastle’s number one full back target this summer.

Erik Pieters – Newcastle still interested?

But if Newcastle cannot get their man, and that has to be a decent possibility, given how well the Frenchman has looked so far in Euro 2012, Newcastle will turn to the next in line.

We know that the club are interested in 21 year-old Nathaniel Clyne of Crystal Palace, and although the England U21 right back is a good player, he ‘s hardly the finished article that Debuchy seems to be.

And Newcastle were also interested in 23 year-old PSV left back and sometimes center-back Erik Pieters,  whom Holland have missed badly in Euro 2012, and the World Cup finalists had to to make do with the untested 18-year-old Jetro Willems, in the left-back position.

Newcastle were close to doing a deal for Erik last summer, and it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if Newcastle were interested in the player again.

The 15 times capped Dutch International is recovering from an injury to his right foot, that he picked up in April, during PSV’s league match against RKC Waalwijk,  and kept him out of the European Championships.

We’re not sure how much Erik would cost,  but maybe £5M to £6M, and Nathaniel Clyne would cost a compensation fee to Palace, to be paid because he is still under 24.

We’d like to see Mathieu Debuchy brought in over the summer, but maybe Erik Pieters would seem to be the next best choice at full back?

Henri Bedimo – 28 year-old Montpellier and Cameroon left-back

Newcastle have also been closely linked with Henri Bedimo, the 28 year-old Montpellier left-back,  who says he will announce which English club he is joining this week, and the news is that it’s either Liverpool or Newcastle – at least according to the player himself.

Newcastle have also been linked this summer with 23 year-old FC Twente right-back Roberto Rosales, who has played 38 times for Venezuela, so those players seem to be the main candidates Newcastle have been linked with so far.

What do you think?

I reckon we will end up signing somebody who most of us have never heard of, and turns out to be class. At least thats what I hope.

Every defender, as long as he is left sided, can play without needing a stick, is able to breathe unaided, he will be linked to NUFC until we actually sign somebody.

Who it will be – I haven’t a clue, until he is on the steps at SJP with his stripey shirt on!!

What about Jozsef Varga? 2 mill rated Dm and RB, 24. He needs a step forward from Debrecen. Hes not Debuchy but not bad at all.
Swansea is interested, ad a few not named club.

Pieters for me is too injury prone. Considering the amount of games we’ll be playing next season I’d rather spend my money on someone a bit more consistent! I’d be surprised if no clubs were to look at Ivan Strinic, Croatia’s new LB, after the Euro’s. He looked pretty decent and would surely come quite cheap!

Debuchy a think will happen Graham Carrs been watching him all season they must of knew that if he perfomes at the Euros
theres gonna be interest Alan Pardew must have something up hes sleeve he
cant let that one slip away.

Forget Erik Pieters as he is probably a very good player but has ever recurring injury problems.
