Rudi Garcia, the Lille manager has no doubts that Matthieu Debuchy is a very good player, and he thinks that Debuchy is the best French right-back at the moment.
Debuchy fails to stop Larsson’s second goal for Sweden last night
The only reason that Debuchy is seeing some playing time at the Euro 2012 Championships this summer, is that France’s number one choice right back, Arsenal’s Bacary Sagna, fractured the fibula in his right leg in early May.
That happened in Arsenal’s 3-3 draw at the Emirates Stadium on May 5th with Norwich City, and it will take Bacary at least three months to recover from the injury.
But it seems Rudi Garcia already thinks Debuchy should be France’s first choice right-back on merit, as he had this to say about his player yesterday:
“No, Debuchy’s impressive performances haven’t surprised me, as he plays with France as he does with us, he plays high and attacks but defensively is also very rigorous and he exudes confidence.”
“Without insulting Anthony Reveillere and Bacary Sagna, he is trying to show he should always be right-back for France.”
Debuchy has been in good form for France in Euro 2012, but the 26 year-old took a bit of a roasting last night in the final 45 minutes, when the speedy Christian Wilhelmson was introduced at the start of the second half, in Sweden’s excellent 2-0 win over France.
Maybe that will help him still sign for Newcastle, in spite of reported interest from the two Milan clubs, PSG and Chelsea.
That’s what we are hoping.
