French Reports That Arsenal Interested In Signing Ben Arfa

There is a report in the in the French daily L’Équipe, that Arsenal are interested in signing Newcastle winger Hatem Ben Arfa.

Ben Arfa in action for France recently

But before we go too far into this – it seems to be a fabricated story from what we can tell – with no new comments from Ben Arfa, and builds on the the news of last week that Chelsea were interested in signing the player.

Ben Arfa had a good season at Newcastle, but only after the turn of the year, after he had learned he had to work hard in defense too, if he wanted to get a start for the Newcastle first team under manager Alan Pardew.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is at the Euro 2012 Championships and will be watching the games, especially the French games, as he is a pundit for French TV.

And it’s an easy step to say he’s interested in Ben Arfa, who has arrived back on the French International scene after a two year absence.

The player  suffered a terrible double fracture of  his left leg during that time, but seems to have recovered well, and scored some mercurial goals for Newcastle this year – and he started the game for France game against Sweden on Tuesday night.

Ben Afra scored 6 goals and had 7 assists during the season for the Magpies, and the article says that Ben Arfa would prefer a move to Arsenal,  because he is not sure he would get much playing time at Chelsea.

But there are no quotes from Ben Arfa  or any other evidence to say any of this is true.

Chelsea have already brought in Eden Hazard and Marko Marin, and competition for place on the wings at Chelsea will already be very competitive next season,  to say the least.

The only evidence given up in the article is what Ben Arfa had said a week or so ago,  that he would be willing to move to a bigger club, but only if he was really wanted there.

We have doubts whether this story has too much truth in it, and it also reports Newcastle now value the player at £20M, and we dare say if a club came in with £20M for Ben Arfa, Newcastle may even consider letting him go.

Newcastle signed Ben Arfa from Marseilles for a fee believed to be around £5M sixteen months ago, while he was still recovering from his broken leg.

But that would not be good news for most Newcastle fans if the Magpies consider selling their mercurial winger,  because the fans just love this lad who has fantastic skills.

What do you think?

Even though he’s class i don’t see a 20million offer coming in unless he has a great season and its this time next year the offer comes in

I think just about every player at the Euros has been linked with a move somewhere, if you believe all this nonsense then the likes of Arsenal/Chelsea will have a squad with 100+ players by the time the window closes.

What ever happens with Hatem he certainly won’t be cheap and I think Mike will hold out for a very good price because he knows he would be almost impossible to replace.

Not a chance we’ll sell HBA this summer.

He’s fully recovered from his break, was brilliant at the end of last season and I reckon he’ll be sensational next season. He could be one of the Prem’s top 5 players and his transfer value could go to £30M+.

Ashley and Pardew know that and it would take a bid now of £30M+ to even make them blink.

    Let’s have a poll.

It’s heading towards July and we can feel an uneasy atmosphere developing around the blog based upon our stagnant movement on the transfer front.

So what do you guys honestly think?

Will we do as we all hope and take advantage of this chance to create the best nufc team in recent memory? Signing 4-5 top players and turning out team into CL contenders.

Will we miss this opportunity and suffer from playing the waiting game due to our strict approach in the transfer market? Will we miss out on our choices and have to make do with second best or possibly nothing at all?

arsenal wont be able to afford him. i dont think anyone rates him as high as AP does and we all know that once we have a valuation set then he wont be sold for a penny less. and even if some one comes in with 20mil i would still try and keep him because i agree with bills-son his value will go up and up.
