The Ajax Technical Director has today said that their full back/midfielder Vernon Anita will not be joining Newcastle United, unless the Tyneside club make an improved offer.
Vernun Anita – 23 year-old Dutch International
There was news a couple of weeks ago that Newcastle had a €5M offer rejected by Ajax for the Dutch International, who can play left full back, and last season played as a defensive midfielder for the Dutch Champions.
The Ajax Technical Director Wim Jonk now says the player will not be leaving the Dutch club unless their valuation is met, and if that’s the case maybe the player will not be coming to Newcastle.
There have been no new offers for Anita since the first Newcastle bid, and Jonk has made a statements today, probably because he would like Newcastle to come back with an imporved offer, but we wouldn’t bet on it.
This is what Wim Jonk said:
“We have not received another offer,” “Therefore, Anita will not be leaving us.” “We will not negotiate, unless Newcastle comes with a better bid.”
“Right now, there isn’t any contact, but that’s normal for English clubs, who are always very late with their transfers.”
Norwich City and Aston Villa are two other clubs who may be interested in the 23 year-old, but that’s because Paul Lambert is interested in the player, and we don’t know the real extent of Villa’s interest.
Ajax have told Newcastle to double their offer to €10M (£8M) for Anita, but we doubt the Tyneside club will do that, and there could be a deal somewhere between €5M and €10M – maybe.
Certainly Newcastle need to bring in a new central midfielder, who will be a replacement for Danny Guthrie, who is now a free agent and will not be staying on Tyneside.
Newcastle very rarely go in with much of an improved offer following their first bid for a player, and it could be there is better value elsewhere.
And if that’s the case, it could signal the end of any interest in Vernun Anita coming from Newcastle.
