Newcastle Make €12M Bid For Dutch Striker

There is news coming in from Holland that Newcastle have increased their bid for 21 year-old striker target Luuk de Jong of FC Twente.

Luuk de Jong – Newcastle have bid €12M for this 21 year-old

Newcastle had bid £8M for the player earlier this week, but that was turned down almost immediately by Twente, and they were supposed to have rated de Jong at £15M.

The Dutch daily AD Sportwereld is reporting today that Newcastle United have increased their offer,  for the 7 times capped Dutch International.

It seems that Newcastle have raised their bid to €12M, which is around £10M, and that’s a lot of money for Newcastle, and that is probably their final offer.

The news being reported cites different amounts in the new bid by Newcastle, but this is the amount quoted in the story in AD Sportwereld, as they say Newcastle United’s bid to Luuk de Jong increased from ten to twelve million, so those figures are in euros.

€10M is the £8M initial bid made by Newcastle earlier this week, so Newcastle increased their bid by 25%.

But bidding around  £10M by Newcastle shows the club are very keen on this player,  and he must be highly rated by the powers that be at Newcastle, such as Graham Carr, the Chief Scout.

De Jong is a prolific goal-scorer and can only get better if he comes to Newcastle, to join what is expected to be Newcastle’s three other strikers come September, Papiss Cisse, Demba Ba and Shola Ameobi.

Last season Luuk played 50 times for FC Twente and scored a good 32 goals, and since moving to Twente from De Graafschap in 2009 he has played 119 times for the Dutch club and scored 59 goals.

But it seems that Twente President Joop Munsterman may want even more for his player, and is said in AD Sportwereld to want €18M (about £14.5M), and is even hoping to entice Portuguese club Benfica into a bidding war for the player, but if that happens then Newcastle will likely look elsewhere.

This is very probably Newcastle’s final bid for the player, and they will not pay out £14.5M, so we have to hope the offer is accepted by his Dutch club, and to us it seems a good offer from Newcastle, for a a very promising young player.

What do you think?

    Don’t think it’s true.
Can’t see us paying more for De Jong then we did for Cisse

Are we sure it is £12 million I have heard 12 million Euros and it has been rejected as they will accept no less than 15 million Euros. If it is £12m then we have matched their asking price meaning we must REALLY rate this lad.

Yeah apparently it’s up to twelve million pound which is 14.9 million euro if they don’t agree to that at the very least you have to applaud the board on really going above and beyond what many thought they would

The only thing that slightly worries me about signing de Jong is that we’ll have 3 top class forwards who aren’t going to be happy warming the bench.
This leads me to think pardew is planning on playing 442 next season but we played our best football last season playing 443. Hba is wasted on the wing!
Still hope we sign him though!!!

I think it could be davybtoon or Beattie, who keep saying that we won’t know who we’re getting til they’re through the door and I believe that. I think the papers have taken summit and ran with it……. As usual

Good quotes from his agent this morning though. Seems he has already rejected any kind of negotiation with several clubs but is open to a move to Newcastle. Just need the clubs to agree and fee and I think this deal could happen.

Harley, with the Europa league we could play up to 60 matches, if he plays two up front for the season, all 3 would have to play a minimum of 40 games apiece, thats more games than either Ba or Cisse played last season, so they probably wouldn’t be sitting on the bench for long periods, personally I feel that we will have enough games to keep 3 top class strikers happy, if we played 3 up front which is what you prefer then I assume you would class Ben Arfa as being one of the 3, so any 3 from Cisse, Ben Arfa, Ba and De Jong, would be a good threesome with one being rested, if 433 is the way then each of the 4 would have to play a minimum of 45 matches apiece, this is why we need a bigger squad, ther’s a hell of a lot of football to come, 5 games in the first 16 days of the season tells us how difficult it will be

Wow, Roshan and Indian magpie both pessemistic about this article? Who’d have guessed that???

Why is it like Gameiro then Roshan? Because we’ve bid more than once for him? It happens from time to time on most deals u know.

I actually think we will get De Jong-but NUFC will not pay more than 12

    @ Harley

De Jong can also ply just behind the striker so he could drop behind cisse with cabaye alongside tiote.

It would be similar to Rooney playing behind welbeck or Hernandez at man utd.

Over a season you can’t jut use one formation. It is good that we will have options to mix things up a bit.

I would rather pardew of having the problem of 3 strikers askin him for more game time than having just one and being stuck if he gets injured.

why do people seem to think we never know anything about any deals we do and are always out of the blue and will not be players were linked with in the media? the only deals that have happened like that are because of good reason. Cabaye – had a clause in his contract, a very low clause, so neither us, nor Lille were going to let anything slip and alert other clubs about that low clause. Marveaux, was a last last minute swoop when he was all set for Liverpool. And Cisse had been linked with us plenty beforehand, and we just swooped in again and got the deal done in no time because of other clubs and his lower price. The likes of Ben Arfa, Santon, and Ba were all linked with us loads in the media then we ended up signing them. Amalfitano was linked with us for weeks before we signed him aswell

The stories could be made up of leaked by twente to get more money.

De Jong has plenty of interested clubs so even of twente do put us off by going public with bids other teams will pay.

And if Newcastle really want him they might rate him so highly they are willing to put up with all the nonsense from twente going public.

Newcastle didn’t stand for Watford going public about mariappa but he wasn’t our main target. To get this guy in they may have to bid an extra million or two and have it dragged out.

Not convinced on any deal until it is officially announced but this one is getting a lot of coverag from a lot of different papers

Granted its the journal and agent speak tends to exaggerate things, but it is encouraging. Yes it could be untrue/smokescreen blah blah blah…but it COULD be true! Simple fact of the matter is…the better the Newcastle team perform, and now we are in Europe, the higher calibre of player we will go after. So yes….chances are SOME of these players we are linked with will be genuine. We can’t keep all our signings top secret anymore. In Carr we trust!

    If the 12m bid is true.. we can’t afdord to vid for him again, still feel st is.not our priority. But gows this;
    Elia £5m
    Gamiero £6m
    Clyne £2m compensation
Zapata £3-4m as villarral were relegated.
Surely getting gameiro and elia in for 11m would be better regardless of the other I mentioned?

If this is true then I really hope we get him for that price (£10m) as I really can’t see us going any higher. From what I’ve seen and read about de Jong he looks a really good buy and I think he could do very well indeed at NUFC.

We need a good young non-African striker who is good enough to start games as well as be a replacement for Ba and Cisse – this guy looks pretty perfect. Here’s hoping the deal goes through.

One thing I don’t understand is the fact your saying newcastle won’t pay anymore than £10million and certainly not £14.5million well to be fair we don’t know newcastles plans and noone knows what the transfer real budget is so all there is to do is wait really!
