Debuchy Will Only Leave Lille For Newcastle United

It seems that Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Valencia have joined Newcastle United in trying to sign Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy, after the Frenchman had a good tournament at Euro 2012.

Mathieu Debuchy training with Les Bleus during Euro 2012
Who’s that guy on his right?

France were eliminated last night by Spain in the quarter finals,  by a score of 2-0, and Debuchy actually played out on the right wing in that game,  before he was replaced in the second half.

The big thing  going for Newcastle is that he is good friends with Yohan Cabaye, the star Newcastle and French midfielder, and that may still sway the deal Newcastle’s way.

But the sticking point could be what Lille want for their player, and the range is anywhere from £6M to £10M, with Newcastle already having had an initial bid of £4M turned down by his French club.

Lille sold his pal Yohan to Newcastle last summer for about £4M – which has turned out to be a fantastic deal for the Magpies.

The Daily News is reporting today that the defender has told his friends he will only leave the French club for Newcastle, after he has been given great reviews at Euro 2012, especially for his performance against England in the first game, and he’s looked an excellent player.

He would look even better in black and white stripes, and this will be great news for Newcastle fans, if it is true, because the Geordies just love players who go out of their way to come to Tyneside, and want to play for the famous English club.

The Daily News is quoting the asking price to be £7M, and we at least expect Newcastle to go in with an increased bid, maybe around £5.5M (?), now that France have been eliminated from the Euro 2012.

Debuchy would be a great buy for Newcastle, and we hope we can get him before pre-season starts on July 5th.

We also hope this story is true. 😀

Comments welcome.

I really hope this is true. I reckon £6M would be enough.

The source of this story is a claim by the daily news (who?) that he has told friends he will only go to us.

After reading the title I was hoping for at least a player quote, oh well. Would love to see him here.

If we paid 5.5 million for santon I’d like to think that we’d spend extra million for a player who I think is a far safer bet.

the tournament i think has upped his value before it i would say 5-6mil would prise him away but now the big money clubs have seen his performances i would be amazed if he goes for any less than 8mil with big money in wages taking him away from us.
we should have tried to sign before te tournament started or atleast pre contract.
looks like we are looking at a few players but 99% if things we hear about are team are rubbish told to get us to read it and i think we have lost our ace now as surely other scouts are just following carr around to pinch his hard work

Not sure I’d pay 7m for a 27 year old, it goes against everything we now do very successfully. 6m absolute tops, otherwise look at Clyne for a much lower fee and younger age.

agree with lee. we have the future covered with fergusson who i think will be as good as any given the experience.
debuchy was definatly one of the best leftbacks in the tournament if we did get him the team will be improved quite a bit once settled into the team

santon got off to a shakey start but now he is cutting inside brilliantly and if debuchy does come then both our full backs will push up

If we got debuchy… Then we would have two top class fullbacks! With super colo… And saylor… But Does anyone not agree that we would probably need a pacey CB to sweep up when are fullbacks go missing?

… this plp are asking too much on a value…but we got yohan for a resonable price because of his contract terms/ clause.

The 1st post was very true, football career is short. Everyone thinks alike.

You never know which tackle comes in the next moment and you’re back to a normal person life. …

Like I’ve said in a previous post there may be some done deals but have confidentiality clauses in place to either keep quiet til after euros or participate in smokescreen headline making quotes. Remember our recruitment team work by stealth, I’m expecting some dutch players as DL and LC were in holland at the end of last the last window maybe sorting some moves out, who knows…..
Time will tell, too early for negativity though.

Just sign Aly Cissokho and forget about Debuchy. Cissokho will be the future left-back for France and he is only 24/25 years old.

You guys claiming age is an issue might want to look at Pirlo today… 33 years old and destroyed England through and through.

Paul Scholes is 3000 years old and is still one of the best midfielders in the league.
