News in the Newcastle Jounal this morning, that Newcastle are trying to add some games in Germany to fill out their pre-season schedule.
It would be great to play Bayern Munich
Although Newcastle have not announced anything yet, German third division side FC Chemnitzer have announced on their web-site that Newcastle will play them on Friday, July 13.
The Journal is reporting that Newcastle are in the process of arranging two more friendly games in Germany, for the week of beginning Monday, July 16th.
So that tour of Germany will precede the two games they will play on successive days in the Algarve tournament, against Greek Champions Olympiacos on 27th July, and against Portuguese Champions FC Porto the next day – and both games will be played at the Algarve Stadium, near Faro, Portugal.
It seems that if Newcastle can arrange two games in Germany, they will shelve an opportunity to play Sporting Lisbon, and hopefully their full pre-season schedule should be announced soon, and maybe before the end of the week.
Now let’s think – which teams should be be playing in Germany?
Make it Bayern Munich, and then either German Champions Borussia Dortmund, or maybe even Schalke 04 – assuming the can accommodate Newcastle.
Certainly if Newcastle can arrange another two games in Germany, in addition to the FC Chemnitzer friendly, it would be a very good pre-season schedule for the Magpies, who will then have a two-leg play-off in August, to qualify for the group stages of the Europa League.
That’s only one reason we need some tough games in pre-season.
