A message from the Newcastle manager today in the local press, that the club, with Mike Ashley’s help, are working hard at bringing in some new players this summer.
Vurnon Anita – still a Newcastle target?
And even though a lot of our players, like Ben Arfa and Demba Ba among others, have been linked with other clubs, Alan Pardew reminds everybody that we haven’t lost anybody yet, and we know Alan is very keen to keep Demba Ba on Tyneside for next season.
Newcastle have made bids for Vurnon Anita, Mathieu Debuchy and Luuk de Jong, according to reports, and Alan Pardew had this to say this morning about the transfer situation at the moment:
“We haven’t lost anybody yet, despite all of the speculation. We’re working to bring a couple of people to improve the squad.” “Mike Ashley has made it clear he is committed to the club.”
“We are working through the process of bringing players in.” “Myself and Graham Carr are keeping an eye on the players we have been tracking during Euro 2012, and seeing how they have performed.”
Demba Ba will return to England this week, having been on a religious pilgrimage to the Middle-East, and it remains to be seen if he offers any public comments to the Newcastle fans about his situation.
It wouldn’t surprise us if he does just that, and hopefully, it will be that he wants to stay on Tyneside.
Newcastle will also need to being in quite a few younger players, to fill out their Development (Reserve) squad, after allowing nine youngsters to leave the club this summer.
But we expect, with the Euro 2012 tournament ending next Sunday, transfer activity will now start to pick up big time this week, with most of Newcastle targets now having left the Championships.
We hope so, in any case.
