Former Club Now After Newcastle Striker

Southampton have entered the race to sign Newcastle’s 25 year-old striker Leon Best.

Leon Best – Southampton interested

Leon Best started his career at his home town club Notts County,  but then in 2004, he joined Southampton on his first professional contract.

So it would be interesting if Leon returned to the club who have just been promoted back to the Premier League, after going down to League One.

Leon played 19 times for Southampton with four goals,  and he made his professional debut against Newcastle United on his 18th birthday in September of 2004.

Southampton are trying to build up their strike force to help Ricky Lambert up front, and have already signed former Newcastle target Jay Rodriguez for £7M from Burnley, and that’s a big fee for somebody unproven in the top flight.

It is thought that Best would be available for around £2M, and he has already had offers from Celtic and Blackburn, but those clubs have their own difficulties.

Blackburn have just been relegated from the Premier League,  and Celtic will form a one club league in Scotland, and we wonder what the betting will be next season on who will win the SPL?

It could be very hard for Celtic now to sign decent players this summer, and it’s almost a certainty that Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster will now look elsewhere.

Rangers are now unlikely to be voted into the SPL for next season by the other clubs in the league, and that could also cost those clubs.

We wonder what that means for the Scottish Premier League, and certainly Rangers have got themselves into a terrible mess – and it could really impact Scottish football, but that’s what happens when a club keeps spending money it doesn’t have.

Southampton would look to be a good club for Leon Best, and of course he will know all about them, from his time there from 2004 through 2007.

So, we need a RB, as the Simpson deadlock won’t be resolved. Will this make much difference? Maybe, if he is as good as Santon. So, what is the missing ingredient, that which will make us more competitive more consistently? What do your MU’s and MC’s have that we don’t? Well, depth to start with, so that rotation, injuries don’t affect performance. What else? Small. tricky forwards seem a good advantage (liverpool has one too). And, good pacy wingers to open up play when things are tight. I say we need one good winger on each side. There really should be two names in many positions… so more than 11 players below, depending on formation-opponent

Cyprus…what about Marveaux? Do you not expect much from his or have you left him out as you think he’s due more time away through injury?

If he stays fit, I see him being a big player for us next season

If anyone wants to pay around £ 2.5-3 mil for either Best or Ameobi I am game 🙂

    Bring it on!

But of course we need to strengthen the attack then. Any thoughts beside De Jong?

Jesper….Well the Messi transfer is still pending, so him, Cisse, Ba and De Jong would do me 🙂

    You know,
forgot about him! Hope he and Taylor can stay fit to make some kind of impact. I fear the ‘Dyer’ effect!

What is taking so long with that messi transfer 🙂 lol

I would actually like to see a tricky forward that can play wideas well coming in. Besides that De Jong would do it for me.

We probably need a develoment striker as well don’t you think?
