Alan Pardew Expecting Big Things From Some Newcastle Players

Two players Alan Pardew is expecting big things from next season are the French duo of Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux, both of whom had some injuries last season which affected the number of first team appearances they made.

Sylvain Marveaux – big things next season?

The Newcastle players will be coming back to Tyneside over the next week, as pre-season training will commence on July 5th, a week tomorrow.

And while players like Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba,  and Papiss Cisse made a big impact last season in their first season on Tyneside, Obertan and Marveuax did not come through as much.

But both lads could have a major impact at Newcastle next season, and we are hoping the hip operation Sylvain Marveaux had at the Steadman Clinic in Denver late last year, will clear up the suspected cause of  his many groin injuries over the last couple of years.

Alan Pardew is hoping they come through, as he had this to say to the local press today:

“This is going to be a different year, you have to remember that.” “Different players will come in and out of form – it won’t just be about those who done well last year. I’m expecting Gabby Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux to be back and raring to go.”

“They are two players that can have big seasons for us next year.” “There’s Sammy Ameobi and Shane Ferguson as well.” “It’s a year further down the line for them and they’ll get their chances to do well for us. It’s a chance to see how they develop.”

Sammy Ameobi and Shane Ferguson  are some of the top youngsters who can challenge for a first team place next season, as well as Mehdi Abeid and Haris Vuckic.

But it seems that James Tavernier has still not signed his new contract at Newcastle, and may even move on in the summer.

Newcastle would get some compensation for him, even though he is free agent, because he’s under 24, but his current contract runs out over the weekend.

We hope James stays at Newcastle, and he could even be loaned out for a year to a Championship club, to get some first team playing time.

Sorry spitfire. I agree with rich. Other targets may become available.

I understand where ya coming from with getting new players in and settled but that is looking at short term. Would you rather get a mediocre player now and get him settled or wait till the end of the window and get a top player that might take a few games to bed in? Long term……… I would rather wait. Would be more beneficial to our club.

If you watch his highlights of Toivonen very similar to Cisse in terms of he scores every kind of goal same age as Cisse as well

If it meant we got him for 5 million it looks like it could be a bargain there was no guarantees that Cisse would do well in this league either remember

could also be that Tavernier is not good enough hence no new deal!

If Marveux and Obertan come good this year it would be amazing as we would then have another 2 top drawer players with a variety of Passing Abilities and Raw Pace

Obertan is a firm favourite with Pardew by the sounds of things….

If Best is considering a move to Blackburn, it would be good to use him as a bargaining tool for Olsson.

Remember spit fire we have a good starting 11 already and a bench which is ok and familiar with the team and system we use.

So if new players come in late they can still be introduced slowly. There will also be one or two that will just fit in right away and wont need much time. Like cisse did.

Is this the old “we’ve got players coming back that will be like new signings” rubbish which is always spouted with a lack of transfer activity?

I dont think MA or DL care what we say. They have bought players they wanted and sold in accordance to what was best for the club and most business decisions have turned up to yield good returns. Here is a brief testament of what they’ve done in the last 3 years:

Won Championship with 102 points. Promoted
    Finished 12th
    Finished 5th – In Europe

I think they know what they are doing regardless of how much we bash them in the funny papers and net

Cisse was fast introdused in first team because Pardew didn’t have a option… Remember what happend with Santon? He came in the last weeks of august and first months he was on the bench… to adapt english style of play but this happend because we have a options for LB and RB. If wasn’t Best injury Cisse will have to wait a few weeks. We CAN’T affort to introdused the new players during the season at least bcoz we will play also and Europe and we must have a compact united team where everyone know what to do and not to start learning when we play in PL or the cups or in the Europe. This means that most of our new players must have a pre season with Newcastle… not on they ex clubs or by themself if they are free agents.

I think people are being a bit harsh on this lad. Judging him purely on euro 2012 doesn’t give you a true reflection on a player. If that WAS the case then I highly doubt we would be in for debuchy as his defensive performances have been lacking. Saying that…Rooney, young etc had awful tournaments yet there is still Jo doubting their quality. He is big, strong, scores all different types of goals (as has already been said!) and can play ACM, CF and left/right of a top 3. And at 5mil…I would say that’s a fantastic price. Yes De Jong is younger and the potential and sell on is higher with him, but let’s not write this lad off. He DOES have great hair!!

Also, tw@tter poster last night that Ba has signed a new deal?! Anybody know if there is any truth to that?

I don’t want to buy mediocre players neither and thats why I was a little bit sarcastic in my first post for the replacements bcoz the replacements of our prime targets means exactly that they are not good as the players on top on the wish list… they looks like some compromise version.

Yeah but also Cisse played a half a season when he came to us and he have a prectise… now is a summer and everyone is on holliday and the new players should have a good pre-season because this season will be the most important for us for a years… I mean in PL because the season in Championship was also a vital. All that I say is that our transfer shoud be done until july 5th… What happend if the new CB came in the end of august and he must be introdused fast in the team? It will be insane to play along Colo or Saylor without good pre-season.

people need to chill out, the window isnt even open yet for gods sake, yes we would all like to get players in asap, but its not that easy, I mean its not as thought teams are buying left right and centre, theres only a handful of deals been done, and only Arsenal who’ve done more than one significant deal. People are comparing our business to last years, which was much different. Cabaye had a clause hence there was no bak and forth negotiating, Ba was on a free, as was Marveaux. That was the reason they were done swiftly. However the likes of Santon, and Obertan were done a lot later in the window due to the fact we had to negotiate with clubs etc. We will take out time, and get deals done at the right price, and im happy with that.

Or would all those complaining rather we went straight in, paid over the odds and blew most of our budget on 1 or 2 players just to appease you? Then you’d get another chance to whinge when we couldn’t bring in enough numbers because thers nothing left in the pot

“ALDERWEIRELD NE VEUT PAS PARTIR. Le défenseur Toby Alderweireld a indiqué son intention de rester à l’Ajax Amsterdam malgré des rumeurs qui annoncent un intérêt de Newcastle. “Je reste à l’Ajax, quoi qu’il arrive. Il ne faut pas écouter les rumeurs”, a déclaré le joueur âgé de 23 ans sur AD5.”

Alderweireld has said he’ll stay at Ajax no matter what. So even if there are rumours about him coming to Newcastle, it’s another one that will probably not happen

Agreed Toivonen is an attacking midfielder who gets into such good attacking positions and he can finish damn well.(based on youtube video. lol.)

He’s a much bigger goalscoring threat than playing Cabaye in the hole. I just hope we are serious about him and get him.

If Pardew thinks Obertan will be like a new signing, he’s deluded, unless Obertan was showing only 50% of his ability last season. Underconfident, poor passer, fairly headless. He has some positives, but Pardew likes him mainly because of Pards commitment to a strong defence on both flanks.

    Hi,

I would just like to add my worth to the Toivonen conversation.

It has been ASSUMED that Toivonen is another option to De Jong but I’d like to know where the proof of this is.

I think there will be sperate negotiations going on for both players. They are incredibily diffrent from one another and with Best leaving and the AFCON to look forward to we are short on numbers up front.

Add to this that Toivonen is also very versataille purchasing him would be a good move.

He is hated by some but that is probably from fans who do not watch him for PSV and jusge him on his performances playing alongside Zlatan but I think he’d be a good buy at £5 million.

He could play AM behind Cisse in a 4-5-1 and shift up front when called upon. He has good vision and technique and could help bring on Vuckic who out of every player we have reminds me most of Toivonen.

So in conclusion we shouldnt jump the gun and get all disheartened because we may sign this lad. Get a grip, for all anyone knows we may sign De Jong also, we may sign neither, nobody knows anything so lets get our heads back in order.

    Regarding De Jong davyb

I agree it’s gone too quiet.

Also I stated last week and i’ll say it again this, there is now way FC Twente would turn down a £10 million up front deal for De Jong. So the press releases are just journos finding particles of information and then having to peice that together to get a half decent story.

I think it either never was or will be happening soon. If De Jong has the potential to be another £35 million striker in the future there is no way MA will let him slip away for the sake of a few quid.

Nobody but the management staff at NUFC know whats going on. It used to be fun to guess but know its a pain in the ass.

Most modern day footballers say that they won’t leave or have no intention beacause they are harassed so much by the press and fans that they have no other alternative. If they say ‘I want to leave’ and then nothing happens their supporters will turn on them. It is better to swear blind loyalty (Carroll) or say nothing at all (Ba) so I think if we wanted him we could have him.
