Two players Alan Pardew is expecting big things from next season are the French duo of Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux, both of whom had some injuries last season which affected the number of first team appearances they made.
Sylvain Marveaux – big things next season?
The Newcastle players will be coming back to Tyneside over the next week, as pre-season training will commence on July 5th, a week tomorrow.
And while players like Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, and Papiss Cisse made a big impact last season in their first season on Tyneside, Obertan and Marveuax did not come through as much.
But both lads could have a major impact at Newcastle next season, and we are hoping the hip operation Sylvain Marveaux had at the Steadman Clinic in Denver late last year, will clear up the suspected cause of his many groin injuries over the last couple of years.
Alan Pardew is hoping they come through, as he had this to say to the local press today:
“This is going to be a different year, you have to remember that.” “Different players will come in and out of form – it won’t just be about those who done well last year. I’m expecting Gabby Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux to be back and raring to go.”
“They are two players that can have big seasons for us next year.” “There’s Sammy Ameobi and Shane Ferguson as well.” “It’s a year further down the line for them and they’ll get their chances to do well for us. It’s a chance to see how they develop.”
Sammy Ameobi and Shane Ferguson are some of the top youngsters who can challenge for a first team place next season, as well as Mehdi Abeid and Haris Vuckic.
But it seems that James Tavernier has still not signed his new contract at Newcastle, and may even move on in the summer.
Newcastle would get some compensation for him, even though he is free agent, because he’s under 24, but his current contract runs out over the weekend.
We hope James stays at Newcastle, and he could even be loaned out for a year to a Championship club, to get some first team playing time.
