French Side Announce Friendly In Germany Against Newcastle

AS Monaco have confirmed on their web-site, that one of their pre-season games that have been arranged, will be against Newcastle United.

This follows on from a report in the Evening Chronicle yesterday, that Newcastle were trying to arrange a friendly with the second division French club, while they were in Germany.

German third division side FC Chemnitzer have announced on their web-site that Newcastle will play them on Friday, July 13th at  the Stadion an der Gellertstraße.

And today Monaco have said they will play Newcastle on Monday, July 16th in Landsberg am Lech, with a 7:00 pm kick off time. Landsberg am Lech is a town in southwest Bavaria, Germany and Monaco will be playing some other games at the time in Germany.

Newcastle have announced only the pre-season games at the Algarve Stadium in Portugal, and that they will send a team to play at Gateshead on 1st August.

The club have also said they will travel to Cardiff City Stadium on August 11th, the Saturday before the Premier League starts,  to play the South Wales side.

But now Monaco and FC Chemnitzer have announced they will also be playing Newcastle in pre-season, so we expect an announcement from Newcastle soon on their full pre-season schedule.

Newcastle will be trying to arrange one more game in Germany, probably in the week starting July 16th, but so far, these are the games that seem to have been arranged:

  • July 13th – Friday – Chemnitzer FC at the Stadion an der Gellertstraße
  • July 16th – Monday – AS Monaco at Landsberg am Lech
  • July 27th – Friday – Olympiacos at the Algarve Stadium
  • July 28th – Saturday – FC Porto at the Algarve Stadium
  • August 11th – Saturday – Cardiff City at Cardiff City Stadium

And on Wednesday, August 1st, Newcastle will send an eleven to face Gateshead at the International Stadium, with a 7:30 pm kick-off time.

Former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri was named as the new manager of AS Monaco about a month ago, and presumably his mission will be to get them promoted back to Ligue 1.

After being relegated last year, Monaco recovered from a poor start start to Ligue 2, to finish in a reasonable 8th position at the end of the season just completed.
