Debuchy, De Jong, Anita – The Three Major Targets This Summer

News in the Newcastle Journal this morning that Newcastle will lodge a second bid for French International Mathieu Debuchy in the next day or so, and of course the 26 year-old played very well for France in the Euro 2012 tournament, and Newcastle have already had an  initial offer of £4M turned down by his club Lille.

Mathieu Debuchy – still top target for Magpies

And the Journal is reporting they have inside information that Newcastle’s top three targets are Mathieu  Debuchy, FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong and Ajax midfielder/defender Vurnon Anita.

We just have to hope that this information is accurate!

Newcastle are still hopping to recruit all three players, but on a budget of just £20M, and that could be difficult, because we have reported before it may take that amount to get just Debuchy and Luuk de Jong.

Newcastle are indeed interested in Ola Toivonen of PSV Eindhoven, but their interest is secondary, and Newcastle seem to definitely want to get 21 year-old Luuk de Jong to Newcastle, and have not finished their negotiations with FC Twente for the striker – according to the Journal.

And the news is that Newcastle will in all likelihood put in an improved offer in for Debuchy in the next day or so, and while this lad is not particularly young at 26, and will be offered a four year deal at Newcastle, the club believes he will significantly improve the defense, and their interest in the French International has not diminished.

And Vernun Anita seems to be the other defender Newcastle are really keen on, and of course the player is flexible in that he can also play at defensive midfield, as well as at full-back.

If this news is accurate, then it’s good news for Newcastle fans, and indeed if we can get Debuchy, de Jong and Vurnon Anita through the door this summer, and keep out other top palyers, we’ll be flying.

Howay The Lads!!

    Torqtoon

Marvoux wante to go to Liverpool to, he only came up to us as he failed a medical there.

It depends on the attitude of the player. If vertongen wanted spurs but was the kind of guy who was happy to play for us still and give his all that’s enough for me.

Speculation is rife as always! I’m actually gutted we’ve been linked to all 3 of these players as I’d love them, but when the press say we are going to sign somebody, we always pull something else out of thin air… Can only hope for Debuchy and De Jong- that would be outstanding!

Id like to hope our number one target is a centre back.

Taylor hasn’t played a full season for over 5 years.

Willo and perch are ok for the odd game but dont want them in the side for a full season if Taylor gets injured.

Strangely, I prefer it when NOBODY has inside information from the club: if it’s wrong, it’s a pain, and if it’s correct I prefer not to let cats out of bags. I like it when the club just announces a signing!

    @ davy

Never know how it turns out.

They might want that much but if nobody improves on our offers they might decide to cash in instead of running their contract down a further year.

Also if debuchy really pushes for a move that could drive his price down. The same way Ben arfa did to get his move to us.

I think realistically (and this is my best guess) that the following values would be attributed to these players:

De Jong £12-14m though reckon we could deal at anything over £9m as he is in his last year of his contract.

Debuchy £6.5m Lille aren’t stupid- that’d be good business.

Anita £6m- though I still not sure on him as a player- not sure if he will be enough of a physical presence for the EPL though in G Carr & Pardiola we trust!

Other worry for me is Tavernier- he’s got the potential to be class and he’s out of contract on Sunday and at the moment hasn’t signed a new contract.

Surely if we have a budget of £20 mill. and we can get around £7-8 mill. for the likes of Best , Forster and Simpson (who would undoubtedly go if Debuchy signs) then that should be enough for this set of players?
And what happened to the free transfers and out of contract signings this year? If we could get De Jong, Debuchy and Anita along with Goode, and Amalfitano plus a couple of ‘out of contract’ signings in the Marveaux mould we’d be set for next season.

If we did get these and good, amalfitano and I still think we want brahimi we would hav improved the squad, we then need the like of sammi, fergie, Vukic, abeid, tav to step up to increase squad size

this is were nufc is good in business we need all 3 players or simular players + a cb with 20mil and thats before anyone of our first team that may move on. We always seem to be able to get a bargain though ba/cabaye/cisse/marvaux/ben arfa i dont think there is any one who would not have thought there was no way we would get them for there transfer fee.
the only player i think they payed the right money for imo is santos only because he was raw and had not played not much football.
can not wait to see the bargains come rolling “IN CARR WE TRUST”

Add Vertonghen, Mbiwa and Hoilett to the lot and then we’ll be ready to challenge for the top 4 next season.

hoppernufc – actually, Curtis Good is a centre back, so if these reports are true maybe they’re happy to keep Willo as 3rd choice CB and would just be bringing in Good as additional cover.

We have to make a 10 Million Euro bid to get Debuchy. Surely we should just snap up Cissokho for £6.5m?

We could’ve signed Diame for free instead of paying £6m+ for Anita.

Signing a centre-back should be the priority.

Chris_g & naptoon Curtis good is a long way from playing premier league he hasn’t even a full season of A league under his belt and believe me the a league is pretty average. We need experienced cover to come in and then bring Good on in the next couple years.

wouldnt expect him anywhere near first team but by all accounts hes a youngster with good potential. we had him on trial sometime ago and sent him back to oz but continued to track him so he must have shown something.

The need of players in the team is evident. It is sad that people imagine we only have so and so much money avaliable. The team would have to evolve and developas we dropped about 12-15 players with youth included, the need to replace them with better players as planned and add a few bodies so the team become bigger. The sad fact is that Newcastle United has the smallest team in the Premier Leauge. Now we also have to face European competiton. So we need to get more in than we let go and they have to be better players. The fact that it seems that we only get a second rating on our youth team is a very bad situation as the youth is the future wether we scout locally or on the other side of the earth.

ketsbaia, you are dreamimg again, LOL. I’;m surprised we arent going for a big centre half – Pardew had said at end of season that he wanted someone to score off corners etc ? He must have faith in Williamson, assuming Steve Taylor gets injured.

If the board want champs league football, then these 3 plus a centre back gives us a good chance, providing no one else leaves.

But i’m starting to think at best we’ll end up with one of the 3, with players like Boenisch coming in. Wouldn’t mind Nelson Olivera as a back up striker if De Jong is too expensive, plus he’d be a better option long term than Toivonnen.

The (speculated) budget of £20 million was to cover
many young players for the reserves – to be developed,
NOT just for first team players.

What worries me is that NUFC like to keep their interest
confidential and are likely to back away once the selling
club (or the players agent spills the beans.
