Melbourne Heart defender Curtis Good is being reported to have signed for Newcastle United by the US sports news organisation Fox Sports, which is part of Sky Sports, and it is now being picked up by other sports outlets.
Curtis Good – signed by the Magpies
The news coming through is that the 19 year-old 6’2″ youngster, who is left-footed, has been signed by Newcastle for $600K – which is around £360K if that’s US dollars or £440K if it’s Australian dollars – and that the deal has now been completed.
Curtis was on Tyneside in April, and his initial one week trial was extended and he stayed for 10 days, and although no contract was forthcoming at that time, it seems that Newcastle and Alan Pardew were impressed with the Australian youngster.
The news last week was that Newcastle were very keen on the youngster, and after his trial, Newcastle had sent a letter to him saying they were impressed with his performances while he was on Tyneside.
Curtis only joined Heart in February of last year, but last season played 25 times with 19 starts, and was impressive at the back.
Australia are bringing some good players through these days, and there’s a few of them in the Premier League already, and Good was outstanding in his debut season in the Hyundai A-League.
Good’s trial was even extended at Newcastle, and he spent the last few days training with the senior side, under the guidance of the Magpie’s top manager Alan Pardew, who seems to have been greatly impressed with the youngster.
Good will go straight into the first team pool at Newcastle, and we expect he will be reporting to training next week at Benton.
Curtis will then be in a fight with Fabricio Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson for a center-back berth, but he has plenty of time to come through on Tyneside.
If the news is true, and we think it is, he becomes the second player signed by Newcastle this summer, following free agent Romain Amalfitano, the French 22 year-old winger, through the door.
If indeed Newcastle have signed the 19 year-old, there should be some news coming through on Newcastle’s official web-site to confirm the deal.
Curtis could be another good buy for Newcastle (excuse the pun – but I couldn’t resist it), and he fits exactly the profile of young players with talent, who can be brought through to the first team on Tyneside.
What do you think?

1st one had we signed him for 360k – now stating reports that he’s signed
Ed… ??”
No, it isn’t just you. Some of the rest of us noticed the same thing. Only we’re not supposed to mention it, otherwise people on here will tell us to grow up and be civil 😉

I agree that perhaps the headlines could be a little less sensationalist, but as others have said there’s no need to have a go at Ed. There are ways in which to contact him and let him know your thoughts in a respectful manner, seeing as the man does dedicate a lot of his time to this blog which I would of thought that we all enjoy?

Comment #89@Andy. This day has made for frustrating reading, but I’m glad there’s someone kind enough out there to put a smile on my face. Nothing like a bit of Michael Owen humiliation to lift the spirits.

Comment #92The whole douglas thing has gone quiet really, wait til august it wouldnt surprise me if we sign a dutch citizen then on a free or cheaply. if not, we still need another cb with experience. Would prefer either of the ajax boys but who knows, deals may be in place and the first we’ll know about it is when they’re either spotted at benton or holding a shirt at a press conference. Stealth transfers, and let us all run round in circles with all the gossip. Personally would like to see two more defenders a ready to go striker and a couple of young/fringe squad strikers like maybe Jordan Rhodes if the price is right.

Haven’t seen a downpour like this in a long time.
Not surprised really because it’s been dead humid today.
Anyway I reckon this cb will have a year in the reserves and should start to challenge next season (2013-2014)
That’s if this rain isn’t armageddon. 🙂

Comment #97Had the misfortune of seeing owen ‘play’ for us against Hull City in fa cup or i should say wandered round the pitch aimlessly, no fire, no endevour more bothered about his horses. since that injury with england hes never been the same. It was good ridance to bad rubbish when he left.

Comment #112So, this means that Pardew is comfortable with Williamson as 3rd choice defender & Good should be 4th .. I wonder what all his interview talk about signing a goal scoring CB was all about.
If newcastle only sign a high caliber RB and De Jong, i would be very happy.
