The Daily Mail are reporting that Celtic have agreed terms with Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster, and he will be signing for the Glasgow club, probably over the weekend..
Fraser Forster - reached agreement with Celtic
The 24 year-old 6’7″ goalkeeper has no future at Newcastle, and it is thought that Celtic paid £2M for the Hexham-born goalkeeper.
Talks over personal terms with Fraser’s representatives have dragged on for a few weeks, but the Mail is reporting that terms have finally been agreed.
Fraser played the last two seasons on loan at Celtic, and appeared 94 times, and we had thought that Fraser might want to hold out in case a Premier League side became interested.
However, it seems that Celtic gave Forster until the end of the month to make a decision, and Fraser seems to have been able to agree terms with Celtic, who will not have Rangers to play next season in the Scottish Premier League.
We wonder which team will win the SPL next season?
In any case, the £2M will come in handy to bring in new players to Newcastle this summer.
Comments welcome.

Is it any coincidence that we sell Forster the same day we are in talks with De Jong, hmmm…………….

“We wonder which team will win the SPL next season?”
I am all in favour of bringing back Third Lanark for that honour, or failing that, promote Partick Thistle to the top flight. Proper Glasgow games imo.

Moving to a club on a permanent basis has to be good for Forster as his chances of a game at TOOON are slim, at best.
Would have thought he could do better than Celtic though – a one horse race if ever there was one. The only real question is how many points will they win it by??
4 Kyo // Jun 29, 2012 at 11:59 PM
Add it to the De Jong/Debuchy fund!
5 Graeme // Jun 30, 2012 at 12:01 AM
Big Pappa – £3 million for Guthrie, £3 Million for Best, £2 million for Forster – thats De Jong just about paid for mate at net zero spend!! Looks a pretty damn good deal to me lol
6 yorkshireToon // Jun 30, 2012 at 12:04 AM
Guthrie was a free his contract finished
7 Dre4mbo4t // Jun 30, 2012 at 12:05 AM
Graeme- Guthrie went on a free, but we should get around 3 mill for Danny Simpson, when the basturd hurries up and goes, he’s been a good servant, hasn’t signed his deal, in my eyes now he can feck off
8 SupaToonKid // Jun 30, 2012 at 12:06 AM
Graeme
Guthrie left on a free though as his contract expired so hopefully more like this: Forster for £2M, Best for £3M, Simpson for £4M, Ranger for £1M & if we’re being optimistic Xisco for £1M. Total income of £11M so that would definitely help signings of Luuk de Jong & Mathieu Debuchy.
9 Nick 69 // Jun 30, 2012 at 12:07 AM
How on earth would we get £3million for Guthrie when he’s already left for Reading on a free???
10 Big Pappa Cisse // Jun 30, 2012 at 12:08 AM
@ Graeme
Thats why I like the way we do business now, we only spend money that we actually have spare and not just racking up massive debts like we used to
11 No Plain Saylor // Jun 30, 2012 at 12:10 AM
Graeme, will we actually get 3 million for guthrie?!
12 Kyo // Jun 30, 2012 at 12:13 AM
Guthrie left for Reading on a free.
13 wearethemags // Jun 30, 2012 at 12:25 AM
Yeah papa 2 outgoings in one night tho and hopefully the first of many deals. Maybe combined wages of 35 to 40 grand freed up and our policy seems to be to buy quality on relatively low wages(compared to premier league) then almost double it. Bet De Jong on something near 25 a week so what mote can the man want to join the might toon – unbiased opinion of course.

My hunch is malaga
17 Swede // Jun 30, 2012 at 1:04 AM
Well Guthrie got his wish, he is going to be very dominant in Reding Its sad we could not convince hin. Forster seem set to leave Newcastle which is sad. It shows how good Steve Harper been over the years. That he accepted the second Fiddle to first Shay and now Tim. Well the real thief is Simpson, thinking he get more money elsewhere. Good bye Sir and Good riddance…..
18 Kyo // Jun 30, 2012 at 1:12 AM
@Swede
Simmo is doin us a favour by giving us transfer money which we need for upgrades. I wouldn’t say “good riddance” to someone who saved us many points with goal-line clearances in the season we just had. He served us well and I wish him the best wherever he goes.
19 JAMSHA // Jun 30, 2012 at 1:14 AM
Good bye andre the giant.
I would hav want at least 4mil 4 him.
20 PIBID (the poster formerly known as hattambenarfa) // Jun 30, 2012 at 1:14 AM
I think the concensus is thank you best and guthrie good luck, we understand you fraser wanting 1st team action but simpson you are a money grabbing egotistical expletive and get out of our club
21 Kyo // Jun 30, 2012 at 1:30 AM
I can’t blame Simmo for leaving. He knows he won’t get much first team action with Debuchy on the cards.
22 No Plain Saylor // Jun 30, 2012 at 1:53 AM
Can see us takin in up on 10 million without any significant losses. Simmo, best, ranger, forster.. hopefully xisco £7.40..
23 chris_g // Jun 30, 2012 at 2:29 AM
Simmo signing for a Spanish club? Really?
We don’t sign many English players because they’re overpriced and tend to be less skillful than the players we pick up from overseas, so why on earth would a Spanish club want to sign an average English player when they’ve got cheaper and better players on their own doorstep?
And if he were flying over for a medical it would mean that a fee would have been agreed between the two clubs, in which case somebody would surely have reported the news by now?
And in any case he tweeted this a couple of days earlier:
Danny Simpson ?@dannysimpson
Back from Barbados now… I had a great time but I’m actually looking forward 2 going back 2 training next week n being back in amongst it
Does that sound like someone who’s been having talks with another club?
24 toonincheek // Jun 30, 2012 at 2:45 AM
Thanks to Leon, Danny G, Danny S for their contribution.
I reckon Fraser would have had more games in Europe during our Europa run than he will get with Celtic.
OK, Europa, not CL, but so what?
Wanna be in CL and get thrashed or be in Europa with the Toon, get a few clean sheets and a good run?
25 Kyo // Jun 30, 2012 at 2:59 AM
lol as if we’ll get far in Europa.
26 nimo // Jun 30, 2012 at 3:26 AM
I think some one being over optimistic thinkining we can get £7.40 for xisco
27 ToonMauritius // Jun 30, 2012 at 5:31 AM
Good morning Lads,
NUFC may also opt for Willem (LB from Ajax) or Pieters (LB From PSV), if Debuchy prove tobe too costly

He is wasting his time going to Celtic.
Yes he will win the medals and get chanpions league (if they manage to get trough the qualifying round) but he will get no recognition for it.
Celtic will dominate the league for years so it will be dull and far too easy.
Also no matter how well he does there I can’t see him being considered for England. He needs a move to a premier league club
36 graham cwarr // Jun 30, 2012 at 8:35 AM
@rich. Maybe this is his stepping stone

Magpiemover. What chance is there of tickets for reading away?
38 jesperfuglsang // Jun 30, 2012 at 9:04 AM
Hope the de Jong news are true; I wouldn’t pay anything near £ 10 mil and I don’t see other teams queing to do so either. Then again it is not my money
I just hope it doesn’t stand in our way of getting a decent RB, CB. and even a backup CM
39 bhoywunda // Jun 30, 2012 at 9:21 AM
Glad to have Forster on board permanently.
He wouldn’t have featured for Newcastle or England and has the chance to sign for one the biggest Clubs in the world.
He seems happy winning trophies.
40 dave m // Jun 30, 2012 at 11:14 AM
Can’t see us getting £4M for Simpson like, we only got £6M for Enrique in the same situation.
I reckon 2 for Simpson, 3 for Best, 2 for Forster, and Xisco and Ranger getting their contracts paid up.
Why not go to Celtic? great support, european football and a good city. where else should he go reading? southampton?
41 RobertLeeNo.7 // Jun 30, 2012 at 11:42 AM
Man I would of liked Foster to stay as number 2 if all we are getting for a potential future England no.2 is 2 million..
I know theres a lot of 2s in there.
Hope Simmo moves soon and we get 4M but I think it will be more like 3M.
I would of asked for at 3M for Forster.
42 timzrus // Jun 30, 2012 at 5:20 PM
This is a good deal for both clubs. The big guy hasn’t had a look in on Tyneside, nor has anyone else shown an interest in him south of the border, so £2M for him is reasonable business.
From Celtic’s point of view, they took a big chance on a rookie ‘keeper two years ago, and he has definitely flourished there under Neil Lennon, so £2M from their perspective is also sound business.
Personally I’m perplexed that he’s never had a real chance in England, apart from a loan spell at Norwich which obviously came to nothing, so he’s between a rock and a hard place. Any player needs regular football and he’s still young enough to eventually continue his career down south in a few years’ time if he keeps improving in Scotland.
Good luck to him!
