Newcastle Officials In Holland To Tie Up Luuk de Jong Deal

Very interesting news in the Evening Chronicle this morning,  that Newcastle officials are in Holland, trying to get a deal done for FC Twente’s 21 year-old striker Luuk de Jong.

Luuk de Jong – Newcastle officials in Holland

If you believe the recent news, Newcastle have already put in a couple of bids of £8M and £10M for the top youngster, although the second bid may be a little dubious.

But that’s still big money for Newcastle, so the fact that Newcastle have traveled to Holland should be good news – we certainly hope so.

There’s not much more than that in the Chronicle report by lead correspondent Lee Ryder,  but we have to believe this is a good move.

Newcastle wouldn’t bother going over to Holland to meet FC Twente officials, unless a deal could be worked out for the youngster.

Newcastle will have been negotiating over the phone with his agent and FC Twente officials, so maybe they are close on getting Luuk to Tyneside?

If you are to believe the Newcastle Journal, then de Jong is one of three major transfer targets this summer, the other two being 26 year-old  Mathieu Debuchy of Lille, and the third target is 23 year-old  Vurnon Anita of Ajax, who can play at full-back and in defensive midfield.

And news today that Newcastle have now bid £6M for the Frenchman, which is an improvement on their last bid of £4M.

Luuk de Jong is Newcastle’s number one striker choice, and he would be a terrific acquisition to the Newcastle side for next season.

Here’s hoping. 😀

What do you think?

Charnley and Llambias at Twente to sort out Douglas and De Jong…
It kind of shows that we can go after the players we want too.
The financial situation must be excellnt for us atm. Loving this.

I keep seeing everyone double posting. Is that because your Android phone says “comment not published” even though it is? Keeps happening to me.

Also, seems like a positive news day 🙂

Let’s ‘get them over the line’ first, would still want to see the squad padded out more given the amount of games, toivanen perhaps if he doesnt mind rotation. Another cb, dm and young development attackers.

    All looking promising though.

    So hopefully we’ll be signing:

    De Jong
    Douglas
    Vertonghen
    Debuchy/Cissokho
    Anita
    Rodallega/Steven Fletcher
An attacking midfielder (good quality one)

Not wanting to put a downer on the de jong news, but how confident are we in keeping cissie.

If van persie does not go to man city as it is widely reported I have an awful feeling they will come in for our number 9. Just a thought.

And if Llambias WANTS these deals done as its being reported he does then that could mean he will do everything in his power without being mugged off and we could come away with 2 new crackers in training next week

You know I was just thinking, it was obvious we were not going to get any of the targets we want at such small offers, e.g. 4mil for Cabyae’s mate (I will only learn how to spell his name when he signs ;)) Do you think it is possible that it is NUFCs way of checking for secret clauses in contracts.

If they put a bid in for 8 mil straight away, any potential clause will get activated but NUFC would be none the wiser. But in something low and they could activate it just on the off chance!!!

    Just a though!

Is Douglas really a goalscoring defender? He has 9 in 115 appearances.

Maybe we’ll just go for Vertonghen as Spurs have blown it.

It’s good that we’re trying to get our targets signed up straight away.

Debuchy and Anita will follow these and then we’ll just have to get a decent attacking midfielder and a young striker (better than Best/Ameobi – 4th striker).

I can’t wait for 1st July!! I reckon we’ll only bring Amalfitano, Good, Debuchy and DeJong. And all you doommongers will whine about how we’ll struggle without bringing in an experienced CB.

bring him in then! cant wait till the season starts!
btw im pretty sure MA wont sell any more big name players, he wants to advertise Sports Direct in the Champions League… he knew he needed to create money and get some bargains to get near it, but with the extra money coming in from 5th place and the EL, we dont need to cash in on anyone to take it to the next level

I’d still be up for us signing Barnetta on a free. Would appreciate the signing of Douglas, however, I feel that Vertonghen would be the ideal signing. Douglas would be my 4th choice signing behind, Vertonghen, Alderewerield and Mbiwa.

We would’ve gone for Cissokho last year, however, his forms dropped a bit recently so that’s probably why we’re in for Debuchy. If our second bid for Debuchy gets rejected, we’ll go back in for Cissokho.

Vertonghen is a very classy defender. Sting, pacey and chips in with the odd goal here and there. I don’t think him coming to us will ever happen…despite the delays with spurs…I believe they will still sign him especially now bale has signed a new deal. Prices quoted at around 9mil is a bargain if true. Would love him at the toon but if that happened…I would eat lambias’ hat!

Vertonghen is also very good on the ball, he sprays passes from the centre of defense and can play his way out of trouble, which for me is his biggest quality. He is out of our range though.

I am going to repeat myself, but I would love Mamadou Sakho coming here. He is looking for first team football to become a regular for the full French side. He is 22 but has played over 120 games in Ligue 1 and has been Young Player of the Year last season in Ligue 1 (the last eight winners of this prize are: Evra, Toulalan, Ribery, Ben Arfa, Nasri, Hazard, Sakho and Belhanda – that says the whole story for me).

id like to see us going in for sebastian boensisch. he used to play for werder bremen. he plays for poland and he played for them at the euros. if we do get him he would probobly be as back up for santon or debuchy(if we get him).
