Very interesting news in the Evening Chronicle this morning, that Newcastle officials are in Holland, trying to get a deal done for FC Twente’s 21 year-old striker Luuk de Jong.
Luuk de Jong - Newcastle officials in Holland
If you believe the recent news, Newcastle have already put in a couple of bids of £8M and £10M for the top youngster, although the second bid may be a little dubious.
But that’s still big money for Newcastle, so the fact that Newcastle have traveled to Holland should be good news – we certainly hope so.
There’s not much more than that in the Chronicle report by lead correspondent Lee Ryder, but we have to believe this is a good move.
Newcastle wouldn’t bother going over to Holland to meet FC Twente officials, unless a deal could be worked out for the youngster.
Newcastle will have been negotiating over the phone with his agent and FC Twente officials, so maybe they are close on getting Luuk to Tyneside?
If you are to believe the Newcastle Journal, then de Jong is one of three major transfer targets this summer, the other two being 26 year-old Mathieu Debuchy of Lille, and the third target is 23 year-old Vurnon Anita of Ajax, who can play at full-back and in defensive midfield.
And news today that Newcastle have now bid £6M for the Frenchman, which is an improvement on their last bid of £4M.
Luuk de Jong is Newcastle’s number one striker choice, and he would be a terrific acquisition to the Newcastle side for next season.
What do you think?
