The Sunday express is reporting that Leon Best is close to moving to Championship club Blackburn Rovers, for a fee close to £3M.
Leon Best scoring against Aston Villa last season
That would be a good deal for Newcastle for their good 25 year-old striker, but Leon could also play in the Premier League and it seems the man who brought him to Newcastle in January of 2010 from Coventry City, Chris Hughton, the new manager at Norwich wants him in East Anglia.
If Norwich agree to sell Grant Holt to West Ham, with the news being that Sam Allardyce is now willing to pay £6M for the 31 year-old Norwich striker, then Norwich will need to bring in a replacement and they should have money to spend too.
£6M for a 31 year-old seems poor business, and something the current Newcastle regime would never do.
Grant Holt – 31 year-old Norwich City striker
West Ham are said to have raised their bid from £4M to £6M for Holt, who scored 17 goals in 37 appearances for the Canaries last season, in his very first season in the Premier League.
Leon Best scored 4 goals in 21 appearances for Newcastle last season, but in the previous season in the Premier League, he notched 6 goals in just 12 appearances, as he came into the Newcastle first team for the departed Andy Carroll.
£3M for Best will go nicely with the £2M we will be getting for selling Fraser Forster to Glasgow Celtic.
It all helps.

Comment #3If we were in for Junior Hoilett surely we would use Best as the compensation, IF money is changing hands for Best then I’d predict Hoilett won’t be arriving at St James’ this summer!

Comment #5Steatickle…A compensation fee which could be anything between 1.2M to 2.5M still has to be paid to Blackburn Rovers to acquire his services even though he is unattached!

Comment #6Hoilett joined Borussia M’Bangelah I can’t spell it. Also the £5m from Forester and Best can be used to buy Douglas, then another £6m for Debuchy, and £10m for De Jong. Which I believe is £21m spend and £5m or so in
