The latest tweet that is doing the rounds on the blogosphere and attracting Newcastle fans attention, is from Duncan Castles, who is a Freelance sports journalist for The Sunday Times, The National, Sports Illustrated, Champions magazine – amongst others.
Junior Hoilett – Newcastle again interested?
And the tweet that is causing the interest is about Junior Hoillet, who is a free agent today after his contract with Blackburn Rovers ran out yesterday.
The 22 year-old Canadian-born winger is a good player, and of course he scored against Newcastle last season in the Magpies’ 3-1 win at St. James’ Park, although exactly how much he would cost in compensation, since he’s under 24 is up for debate.
But there’s the tweet that is causing the interest:
“Understand that Reading owner Anton Zingarevich met Junior Hoilett to discuss move. Still looks more likely to join Newcastle. “
Blackburn manager Steve Kean has tried to get Junior to sign a new deal at Blackburn for over a year now, but the lad has resisted that, and it’s a little bit of a surprise that he still not signed up by a club, although German giants Bayern Munich have been linked with him continually, and it seems that Borussia Monchengladback, who are in the Champions League next season, may also be interested.
There’s no doubt that Duncan Castles’ tweet has gone out, but exactly how much truth there is in it is open to question, although we are hoping he may have some inside information.
It would be a little bit of a surprise if Newcastle go after this player at this stage, but Newcastle like a bargain, and this lad has talent, and can score goals, there’s little doubt about that.
But at the moment Newcastle are after Luuk de Jong, Mathieu Debuchy and maybe Brazilian center-back Douglas, as the players they would like to get signed, before pre-season training starts next Thursday.
In January of this year, Hoilett was named one of the 13 Players to watch in 2012 by world football governing body FIFA, and this is what they had to say about the now 22 year-old:
“Blackburn may be languishing at the foot of the Premier League table, but their dynamic wide-man has become one of the division’s hottest prospects, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur among a host of clubs reportedly keen on signing him this month.
“Though born and raised in Canada, the as-yet uncapped Hoilett is also eligible for both USA and Jamaica, so is likely to be just as sought-after at international level.”
And only a couple of weeks ago Turkish giants Galatasaray were thought to be after the player who was born in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, back in 1990
What do you think about this news and the possibility Newcastle could be in for the 22 year-old?
Comments welcome.

Comment #4As all we need now is De Jong, Anita and or Malumbu + Mathieu Debuchy to come over and we’ll be set to challenge and hopefully win a trophy in the new season

fee agreed the last i know is Mclaren still doesn’t want to lose Douglas. He said this yesterday.
‘If he is fit, he is the best defender in the Netherlands. We do not want to lose him,’ the former England manager told TC Tubantia.
why are people saying Douglas to be 1 of the best defenders in Holland? Why do i see him as another Bramble or Boumsong? lol

Comment #7With Hoilett, De Jong, Debuchy and Anita possibly coming in, Marveaux, Taylor, Obertan also returing we have enough strength in depth in my opinion. A left full back would still be nice as I do not have great faith in RTaylor or Perch in this position.

Comment #8Besides the amount of quality the Manchester clubs, Arsenal, etc.. have, its no those things that lead them to top finishes… The main thing, is to have competition for places. Let the players battle it out for their spots. This way a manager will know who wants it most….
— In other words my point is that if we have an additional center back challenging Captain Colo, Tayls, and Willo, then goals will not be flying in like in Fulham, Tottenham past year…. Alan Pardew will see who wants it most. If Tayls gets injured again, (hopefully not) than Willo and Douglas will fight it out for the spot….. either way its a win-win situation…

Comment #13This is exciting, get him in!! I still say we need De Jong as well, during the ACON it could be
KRUL
Debuchy, Douglas, Collo, Santon
Cabaye Anita Marveaux/Jonas (who ever works better)
Hoilett DeJong HBA
That is a strong team!

Comment #14This is exciting, get him in!! I still say we need De Jong as well, during the ACON our team if we signed the 3 other players we are linked with could be:
KRUL
Debuchy, Douglas, Collo, Santon
Cabaye Anita Marveaux/Jonas (who ever works better)
Hoilett DeJong HBA
That is a strong team even without Ba, Cisse, and Tiote

Comment #15Ive a mate who works at Blackburn who is very close to Hoilett. He ain’t on a free. We’d have to pay a tribunal of £1.2m, and he wants £55,000 a week, which he has been offered by another Premier League club. Can’t see it happening.

Comment #16Hoilett doesnt need to be a part of the Best deal. He is a free agent and can sign for anyone he likes!!! We would have to pay compo to Blackburn but it would not be a significant fee.

With only 1.2M in compensation and no fee the lad is a bargain.
If he is rated 12M then we are saving over 10M which over a five year contract is 40K a week.

Comment #20Hoilett would be a fantastic buy as he has pace, can cross and score goals. he also unsettles defenders with his pace and ability and given the African Nations he would be a sensible buy.
I’d rather take a chance on Hoilett who is a proven goal scorer in the PLthan De Jong who could be another Mido.
It’ll be interesting at the back with Steven Taylor, Collo and Douglas all playing for a first team place with Perchino and Willow to fill in should anybody get injured.
Providing we don’t lose anybody we could end up with a very strong team

Comment #21Well, it seems we have all our targets in the bag if we as gullible as the media would, like us to be.
Ile believe it when they wear the shirt in a press conference. Until then, these blogs are pointless.
